About Batteries
The battery is where a no-start problem often begins, especially on a bike that sits for weeks. This page lists replacement batteries for Harley-Davidson and Indian models, from conventional sealed units to AGM and lithium.
Battery brands and types
Fire Power is the largest group, with sealed maintenance-free batteries in sizes such as CTX14-BS for V-Rod, CTX19L-BS, CTX20-BS and factory-activated CTX20HL, plus 12V standard batteries with acid packs for Touring. Yuasa lists AGM maintenance-free units like YTX14L-BS and the YIX30L-BS. Antigravity sells lithium batteries including the Restart AT12BS-RS and AT7B-BS-RS, which are lighter than lead-acid versions. Small items such as 6mm square nuts, and a Fly Racing replacement battery for heated gloves, also appear.
Picking the right battery
Battery size codes show case size, terminal position and capacity, and the terminal side matters. Use the code printed on your current battery, or the one in your manual, to match. AGM batteries are sealed and spill proof, while acid-pack batteries need to be filled and charged before use. Lithium needs a charger that supports lithium chemistry. Make sure the charging system is healthy, since a weak stator can drain a new battery too.
A tender or charger keeps a stored battery topped up. See the electrical page for charging system parts and the starters page if the bike turns over slowly.
