About Engine Management

A tuner ties your upgrades together. Exhaust, air cleaner and engine parts change how air moves through the engine, and a fuel-injected bike needs fueling and timing adjusted to match. This page lists tuners and engine management parts for Harley-Davidson and Indian, and the model and year bar filters it.

Types of tuning devices

  • Flash tuners reprogram the stock ECM through the diagnostic port, load maps for your parts and often log data
  • Fuel controllers sit between sensors and injectors to adjust fueling without reflashing the ECM
  • Ignition modules and programmable systems change spark timing
  • Diagnostic tools read codes and live data

Who makes what

Dynojet is the largest group, with Power Commander and Power Vision tuners. Daytona and Dynatek list ignition and tuning modules, Diag4 Bike supplies diagnostic tools, and TTS adds more.

Which one do you need?

Match the tool to your bike and parts. A Stage 1 setup (air cleaner and exhaust) often runs on a base map. Bigger changes, like cams, a big-bore kit or forced induction, deserve a dyno tune by someone who knows the platform. Newer CAN-bus bikes need tuners that support them, so confirm your year. Tuning devices are for off-road and closed-course use only and can change emissions-related settings. Pair this page with exhaust, engine upgrades and Dynojet.

Engine Management FAQ

Do I need a tuner after adding an exhaust?
On a fuel-injected bike, yes in most cases. The stock calibration is not set up for new airflow.
Flash tuner or fuel controller?
A flash tuner reprograms the stock ECM. A fuel controller adjusts fueling without changing the ECM. Check which lists your model and year.
Can I tune it myself?
Many tuners include base maps. For bigger changes, a dyno session is the safer path.
Will it work on my model year?
Tuners are year and model specific. Read the compatibility notes.
Do tuners affect warranty?
They can. Check with your dealer or warranty provider before using one.
