About Helmets
A helmet is the most personal piece of riding gear, and this page covers the main shell types cruiser and touring riders look for: full face, open face, modular and half helmets. Brands include Scorpion EXO, GMAX and Highway 21.
What is available
Scorpion EXO makes up most of the range, from the EXO-R1 and EXO-T520 full faces to the Covert FX full face, the EXO-ST1400 EVO Carbon, the Covert Marauder open-face lids and Ryzer Edge hi-viz styles. GMAX lists open-face and peaked styles such as the HH-65, and Highway 21 focuses on half and beanie shells like the .357 and 9MM German beanie in chrome and grey. Sizes are shown per listing, and some designs run from extra small to 3X.
How to choose
Fit matters more than price or brand. A helmet should feel snug around the cheeks and forehead without pressure points, and should not shift when you shake your head. Full-face shells cover the chin and jaw, open-face shells give you airflow and vision, and half helmets cover the least. Check each listing for the certification marks printed on the shell and required where you ride.
Replace a helmet after a significant impact or per the maker's guidance. For add-ons, see helmet accessories and gloves.
