About Sprockets
Sprockets tie the transmission to the rear wheel, and changing their size changes gearing. This page lists transmission sprockets, rear sprockets, belt pulleys and chain conversion parts for Harley-Davidson models.
Sprocket types
Harddrive has the broadest selection, with offset transmission sprockets in 21, 22, 24 and 25 tooth versions for Sportster XL, Big Twin 5-speed and Big Twin 6-speed, a 48-tooth dished sprocket for a 530 chain conversion, a 49-tooth flat black rear steel sprocket, and a cush drive chain conversion kit for Milwaukee-Eight Touring. Supersprox lists Stealth rear sprockets with an aluminum core in 49 and 53 teeth for Touring, Softail and Dyna. Performance Machine adds a stainless steel bolt-set belt pulley, and PBI and Hawg Halters Inc round out the list.
Gearing and fitment
Fewer teeth on the front or more on the rear gives quicker acceleration and lower highway speed rpm. The opposite gives taller gearing. Verify tooth count, offset and the number of splines for your transmission, and confirm chain pitch or belt width before you buy. Changing sprocket size affects speedometer calibration and may require a drivetrain adjustment or a different chain or belt length.
See drive parts for primary chains, belts and axles, and chains for final drive chain options.
