About Drive
Everything between the engine and the rear tire sits in the drivetrain, and this page covers the wear items and upgrades in that line: primary chains and tensioners, final drive belts, pulleys, axles and wheel bearings.
What is stocked
Harddrive supplies chrome primary pulleys, rear drive pulleys, front axles and axle spacers, plus Timken tapered wheel bearing and seal kits and compensators. Hayden lists M6 primary chain tensioners and replacement shoes for Big Twins, Softail, Touring and Sportster. Diamond Chain sells an 82-link primary chain for Dyna and Softail, and APM lists carbon drive belts in 1.125 inch width. All Balls contributes bearing and drivetrain kits, and Avon makes axle nut covers.
Fitment details
Belt width, tooth count and pulley size depend on the model and year, so compare these numbers with what is on the bike. Primary chain length and the tensioner style differ between Evolution, Twin Cam and Milwaukee-Eight. Replace the tensioner shoes when you replace the chain, and set belt tension to the maker's spec after installation. Use fresh bearings and seals when changing axle parts, and tighten axle nuts to the torque value in your service manual. Check belt or chain alignment after the wheel goes back in, since a small misalignment wears a belt out quickly and can cause noise or vibration.
