Cables and hydraulic lines age quietly.

About Cable/Hydraulic Control Lines

Cables and hydraulic lines age quietly. A stiff throttle, a clutch that grabs, or a spongy lever often traces back to a cable or line that has been in service for years. This page lists replacements and upgrades for Harley-Davidson and Indian motorcycles, many of them sized for taller bars as well as for stock setups.

What is in the catalog

Motion Pro is the main supplier, with black vinyl and Armor Coat throttle, idle and clutch cables, including lightweight clutch cables, for Sportster, Dyna, Softail, Touring, Road King and Road Glide fitments. Goodridge supplies braided hydraulic clutch and brake lines, including black and chrome versions for 2015 to 2016 Road Glide models. Burly Brand lists stainless control line kits sized for bagger bar heights, such as a 15 inch bagger control kit for Touring. A small number of Indian fitments are included.

Getting the length right

Length is the main fitment variable. A taller bar or a different riser needs a longer cable or line, and Touring bikes with ABS use different brake lines from non-ABS models. Compare the length in the title with your current part before ordering, then route the cable without sharp bends so the throttle returns cleanly and the fork can turn lock to lock.

Fresh cables pair well with new grips and hand controls, and taller bars from the handlebars page usually call for longer lines.

Cable/Hydraulic Control Lines FAQ

How do I know what cable length I need?
Compare the length in the product title with the cable on your bike, and add length if you are fitting taller bars or risers.
What is the difference between black vinyl and Armor Coat cables?
Both are Motion Pro finishes. Black vinyl gives a clean stealth look, while Armor Coat adds a protective outer layer. Check the listing for the model they fit.
Do I need ABS-specific lines?
Often yes. Brake lines for ABS bikes differ from non-ABS lines, so confirm on the product page.
Are Indian cables included?
A small number of listings carry Indian fitment. Check the model line on each one.
Should I replace all cables at once?
Many riders do, because throttle, idle and clutch cables age at the same rate and share the same labor.
