Unique Look and Style
While I'm not entirely sold on the price point, it is a very, very nice bag and the fact that it can be used for either tank or tail makes this a tad unique, as I haven't seen many bags either designed for, or make this claim.<br /><br />The finish and color may vary ever so slightly from the picture, but overall it has a nice, mildly distressed look. The style goes well with my Ducati Italia Independent.<br /><br />I have not ridden with it on the tank with magnets, when I do I'll update this post. <br /><br />The mounting system for the tail is effective, but instead of using the four plastic buckles and webbing I would rather have seen leather straps and buckle system.
It's nice as long as you remain stationary in the driveway. Bought this for my husband for a birthday gift. He took it out riding and it flew off twice luckily he caught it both times and didn't get into an accident. Don't waste your money
It's more about the look than what it can hold
So I always look for something different. When looking for a small tank/tail bag I didn't want one of those black nylon, cookie cutter, bags I always see. This Burly tank/tail bag seemed to be different. I've always liked the waxed canvas look and this bag is exactly what I was looking for. Its worn, waxed, canvas with its scuffed up leather accents is perfect. Naturally I went with the brownish color because the black looked like all the other bags and is not made from waxed canvas. The size is pretty small. You can't fit your groceries in it but you can fit a few small articles like gloves, a hat, maybe some tools, etc... It is very well made with all kinds of snaps and a nice leather carrying handle. It also has a matching flange which I slid under my rear fender rack. The flange snapped together with the bag and secured the bag to my fender rack with no slipping or sliding. So like my title suggests, you won't be able to put much in it, but it sure looks cool on my Softail Slim. A little over priced, but then what isn't when it comes to motorcycle accessories?
Useful item for my bobber.
I like the tank bag and the magnets fasted to my metal tank securely. As it is a tank bag its not meant to be overly large and does not get in the way. The price point is a bit high but is definitely a quality item. As time progresses I'll be able to see how well it holds up. With occasionally applying wax I am confident it will work out well. A bobber isnt a bagger and I dont carry much but this certainly helps when I need some additional storage.
Outstanding tail bag on my 2015 Yamaha VMAX
The quality of the bag is outstanding. As is the fit and finish. Due to the Yamaha VMAX rear seat having to many goodies underneath it I did not use the bottom pan of the bag (that would normally sit under a seat) but opted to remove the connector clips from that bottom pan and use other webbed straps instead. This worked out perfect.<br /><br />I would like to see Burly add spare webbing and clips for those bike owners that are unable to use the under seat gear included with the bag. This would increase mounting flexibility. Lets face it, space on new bikes is a premium and alternative connecting options are a plus.
Burly bag
The bag looks great. Especially on my Triumph T120. The major complaintsI have are cost and size. I bought it because the waxed canvas looks retro but in hindsight I wish I wouldve considered its size a little more. Im hoping to use it for overnight trips but it will definitely be close.
Durable and attractive
The Burly bag has a cool, retro look with waxed canvas and weathered looking leather highlights. The bag comes with straps attached to a support system that makes mounting a breeze. The bag weathers well, but is not waterproof (no claim to be) and holds enough gear, snacks, coffee cup, and extras for a day's outing. I've risen about 3K miles with the bag in the last month.<br /><br />The zipper systems are a clever design, keeps the zippers closed and the tabs do not flapping around. The same with the "Moto-centric" snaps on the mounting straps, a secure setup that doesn't beat the paint off your bike. The plastic snaps are hidden beneath leather loops and straps that snap in place.<br /><br />My bag is mounted to a Hepco & Becker rear rack on a BMW R nine T. The system is secure and does not shake loose with wind or vibration. The webbings on the mounting straps appear to be cotton, they need to be tightened after a wet/dry cycle (rain), but hold well. Both the canvas and leather acquire character (i.e., scuffs, scratches) with use, a weathered patina common to that material.<br /><br />The Burly sits behind a Filson sportsman bag for longer trips, the Filson is similarly finished in waxed canvas. Great combo!
Form over function
I've owned this bag for quite a while now, First, the magnets are very weak and the bag moves and jumps around leaving faint scratches. If you hit anything unexpected it might be in your lap. My other bags are from Chase Harper and the difference is remarkable. Second the Zippers are very low quality. The teeth on the left side tore out, became crooked. I've siliconed them waxed them etc. to no avail. The tail bag feature is pointless unless you can put it there and leave it on because the straps are just dangling in the way otherwise.<br /><br />I wish someone would make a bag of this style that was better thought out.
Its about the look
It not a dull black fabric bag. I sit perfectly on my BMW Scrambler metal tank. I like that I can use it as a tail bag and the detachable phone or GPS cover can be place on the tank. It is not too big to be a hindrance when on the tank. It take my house keys wallet phone garage remote and any other bit and pieces I want for a ride. The best thing is the way it looks. I think it great.
A lil too small
I returned it. A lil too small for the ¥ and a lil too likely to scratch my paint.
Voyager bag
Quality is top of the line. Style is a head turner. This bag is built to last and keep that I use this product look. Only reason why I almost gave it a perfect score is because I would like it if Burly made a plastic bag in case of a really wet ride. I use the bag every time I mount up for the gym, al my items fit, even my shoes.
Love this bag!
My favorite part of this bag, besides the way that it looks, is that it has the removable pouch. I used a heat gun on it to tighten up the plastic and now it seems to work pretty well with my iPhone X.
Tough everyday bag
I bought this bag about 6 years ago to use as a tail bag on my XSR900, so I've never used the magnets or phone holder. It's been on the bike for every ride, every trip, every day and it's still in great shape. It's plenty of room for a small patch kit, a hat, clear shield, and some other odds and ends like USB chargers etc.<br /><br />Actually writing the review this late because I'm looking into another one for my saddlemen seat on my dyna.
Great as a tail bag
I use this bag on top of my chopped Harley fender 2009 fxdf, works great tons of room for day trips, or light over night trips.
Take off the tank after riding
I inhereted this bag with 1 year old BMW R9T recently purchased.Seems like previous owner left the bag on tank at all times and yes,there is some fading of the paint ( not major) where the magnets sit. There is a manufacturers warning ( found on a review of the bag on diff website) not to leave the bag on the tank at all times.Otherwise, very happy to have it,fits great on the hepco & becker tail rack as well.
If only it was a little smaller, but that's not the bag's fault
Ultimately I had to return this bag, but I really didn't want to. My ride is an iddy bitty Honda Monkey and my teeny tiny rear rack just didn't have the real estate to hold enough of the bag, and my tank was barely bigger than the phone pocket, so much so that when my phone was in the pocket (iPhone 7) the curvature of the tank was too much to keep it laying flat.<br /><br />However, none of this is the fault of this awesome bag. It's well made, looks absolutely awesome, and I had seriously considered making a base and just zip-tying the under-seat part to my luggage rack ... but, whilst it's almost perfect, the 'almost' is an expensive one and I decided to keep looking.<br /><br />If I get a bigger bike this will absolutely be in my cart in a heartbeat ... but for now, my little Monkey will be Burly-bagless.

Small tank bag
For some light raining cloths and spare gloves its a great looking bag. The smaller bag on top is really useful for a map but you cannot use your iPhones screen as touchscreen. If it is heavy loaded the bag slips to you to the back of the tank. Including the magnets its a kind of heavy. So for short trips and old school bike its a very good choice. For longer journey it would be to small.
Really like the bag. Lots of space with extra hooks.
This bag is a perfect day bag as it can hold extra gloves, glasses, a bottle of water, protein bars, visor cleaner, lint free cloths , maps and my phone remaining fully charged through the pass through port...This is exactly what I put in it before I head out for the day.
