Progressive Suspension has focused exclusively on American V-twin suspension since 1982, and its Monotube fork cartridges and 400/970/970G shock series are among the most common upgrades on baggers and Softails. For most riders the stock rear shock is the single worst part on the bike — this is the fix.
Experience smooth, consistent suspension performance on your Harley-Davidson with Progressive 412 Series shocks. These units feature a nitrogen-charged, multi-stage velocity-sensitive damping design and durable double-wall steel construction. The five-position preload adjustment lets you dial in the ride for any rider weight or load.
The Progressive 412 Series shocks are engineered to provide a superior riding experience on your Harley-Davidson. Their advanced damping system, combined with a robust build, ensures that you maintain control and comfort across various road conditions. Whether you're navigating city streets or embarking on a long-distance tour, these shocks deliver the stability and responsiveness that factory units often lack.

Common questions
Can I adjust the preload myself?
Yes, the 5-position cam-style preload adjuster is designed for easy, tool-free adjustment. This allows you to quickly set the shock stiffness to match your weight, a passenger, or luggage.
What does multi-stage velocity-sensitive damping mean?
This refers to a damping system that automatically adjusts its resistance based on the speed of the shock's compression and rebound. This provides a softer ride over small bumps and firmer control over larger impacts, improving both comfort and handling.
How do I know which spring rate (standard or heavy-duty) is right for me?
The ideal spring rate depends on your typical riding weight (rider, passenger, and luggage combined) and riding style. Consult our Shop by Bike tool or contact our support team for guidance on selecting the appropriate spring rate for your specific Harley-Davidson model and usage.

A really nice shock for the $
I bought these for my '06 FLHR and could not be happier. I'm 6' 275 lbs so I went with the heavy duty option. Took about 30 min. to change shocks and the ride has improved considerably, took the jolt out of hitting heaves in the road.

Fell apart just outside of progressives 1 year warranty.
While removing the rear wheel for some other service they just quite literally fell apart in two pieces leaving me with a garage floor full of suspension oil and one unusable shock. Spoke with their warranty rep who told me in so many words that its not their problem. Dissapointed to say the least.

Worth it
So far loving these, the ride is much smoother and an awesome look. Going for the 12" was a good choice, raised it but not too much.
