About Progressive

Progressive Suspension has focused exclusively on American V-twin suspension since 1982, and its Monotube fork cartridges and 400/970/970G shock series are among the most common upgrades on baggers and Softails. For most riders the stock rear shock is the single worst part on the bike — this is the fix.

Progressive 412 Series shocks deliver a smooth, consistent ride for your Harley-Davidson with their robust double-wall steel construction and nitrogen-charged, multi-stage velocity-sensitive valving. These shocks are a durable and valuable choice for V-twin cruisers, allowing you to dial in comfort for any rider weight using the convenient five-position cam-style preload adjuster.

Why riders pick this

  • Smooth, consistent ride quality
  • Durable double-wall steel construction
  • Nitrogen-charged for fade-free operation
  • Multi-stage velocity-sensitive damping
  • 5-position cam-style preload adjuster
  • Available with progressive or heavy-duty springs

Transform your Harley-Davidson's ride quality with the Progressive 412 Series shocks. Engineered to provide superior damping and stability, these shocks significantly improve comfort and handling over stock units. The advanced internal design ensures consistent performance across various road conditions, absorbing bumps and maintaining tire contact for a more confident and enjoyable ride.

Refined Ride, Effortless Adjustments

  • Double-wall steel damper body for exceptional durability
  • High-pressure nitrogen gas charging for consistent damping
  • Multi-stage velocity-sensitive damping for responsive control
  • 5-position cam-style preload adjuster for quick, tool-free tuning
  • Progressive-rate spring options in chrome or black
  • Heavy-duty spring variant available for heavier loads

Stiff

The shocks seem super nice, but they are incredibly stiff. Turns out they’re 130/200 top to bottom. Would be nice to have an option to choose your spring rate. Couldn’t find it in the description either. Have them installed on a 1998 sportster 1200 by the way. I’m about 180lbs and they don’t move at all, my friend who weighs about 260 also said they were way to firm. Hope this helps.
