About Progressive

Progressive Suspension has focused exclusively on American V-twin suspension since 1982, and its Monotube fork cartridges and 400/970/970G shock series are among the most common upgrades on baggers and Softails. For most riders the stock rear shock is the single worst part on the bike — this is the fix.

Progressive 412 Series heavy-duty shocks offer a durable, affordable suspension upgrade for Harley-Davidson Touring and Softail models. Featuring a double-wall steel damper body and nitrogen-charged, velocity-sensitive valving, these shocks are built to handle demanding rides.

Why riders pick this

  • Heavy-duty progressive rate springs for increased load capacity
  • Durable double-wall steel construction
  • Nitrogen-charged for consistent damping
  • Five-position cam-style preload adjuster for easy tuning
  • Chrome finish for a classic custom look

For the Harley-Davidson rider who demands more from their suspension, especially when loaded up, these Progressive 412 Series shocks are a game-changer. The heavy-duty progressive rate springs prevent bottoming out and provide a more stable, controlled ride, while the multi-stage damping smooths out road imperfections. The brilliant chrome finish also adds a touch of classic custom appeal to your bagger or cruiser.

Superior Performance for Loaded Touring

  • Double-wall steel construction with multi-stage velocity-sensitive damping
  • High-pressure nitrogen gas charge for consistent, fade-free performance
  • Five-position cam-style preload adjuster allows quick, tool-free tuning
  • Heavy-duty progressive rate springs support increased loads
  • Chrome finish options complement classic Harley styling

Confidence on Every Mile

Whether you're embarking on a cross-country tour with a passenger and luggage or simply prefer a firmer, more responsive ride, the Progressive 412 Series heavy-duty shocks deliver. The easy adjustability means you can quickly dial in the perfect setup, ensuring your Harley-Davidson Touring, Softail, or Dyna performs at its best. Experience enhanced stability and comfort, making every journey more enjoyable.

Common questions

Can I adjust the ride height or stiffness after installation?

Yes, the 5-position cam-style preload adjuster allows you to easily adjust the stiffness to suit your load and riding preferences. Ride height is determined by the shock length, which is fixed once installed.

Are these shocks suitable for two-up riding with luggage?

Absolutely. These heavy-duty 412 Series shocks are specifically designed with stronger progressive rate springs to provide optimal support and control for riders carrying passengers and luggage.

Will these shocks fit my Harley-Davidson Touring or Softail model?

These Progressive 412 Series shocks are designed for various Harley-Davidson Touring, Softail, and Dyna models. Please confirm your specific year and model using our 'Shop by Bike' tool before ordering, as fitment varies by frame type.

Stiff

The shocks seem super nice, but they are incredibly stiff. Turns out they’re 130/200 top to bottom. Would be nice to have an option to choose your spring rate. Couldn’t find it in the description either. Have them installed on a 1998 sportster 1200 by the way. I’m about 180lbs and they don’t move at all, my friend who weighs about 260 also said they were way to firm. Hope this helps.
