About Progressive

Progressive Suspension has focused exclusively on American V-twin suspension since 1982, and its Monotube fork cartridges and 400/970/970G shock series are among the most common upgrades on baggers and Softails. For most riders the stock rear shock is the single worst part on the bike — this is the fix.

Progressive 412 Series shocks are engineered to deliver consistent damping performance across a wide range of Harley-Davidson models. Featuring durable double-wall steel construction and nitrogen charging, these shocks provide a significant upgrade over stock. The 5-position preload adjuster allows you to fine-tune your ride height and firmness for any load or riding style.

Why riders pick this

  • Consistent damping performance with nitrogen charging
  • Durable double-wall steel construction
  • Multi-stage velocity-sensitive valving for better control
  • 5-position cam-style preload adjuster for quick tuning
  • Available with standard or heavy-duty progressive springs

Unlock a more controlled and comfortable ride with Progressive 412 Series shocks for your Harley-Davidson. Designed with serious riders in mind, these shocks bring modern suspension technology to your bagger, Softail, or Dyna. Experience improved handling and a smoother response over varied road conditions, making every mile more enjoyable.

Consistent Performance for the Long Haul

  • Double-wall steel damper construction for robust durability
  • Multi-stage velocity-sensitive damping adapts to road conditions
  • High-pressure gas charging ensures consistent performance without fade
  • 5-position cam-style preload adjuster for quick, tool-free adjustments

Dialing In Your Ride

Whether you're hitting the highway loaded down or carving canyons solo, the 412 Series shocks give you the control to match your suspension to your ride. The intuitive preload adjustment means you can quickly set up your bike for optimal comfort and performance, ensuring your Harley handles exactly how you want it to. Consider pairing these with a fork upgrade for a complete front-to-back suspension overhaul.

Stiff

The shocks seem super nice, but they are incredibly stiff. Turns out they’re 130/200 top to bottom. Would be nice to have an option to choose your spring rate. Couldn’t find it in the description either. Have them installed on a 1998 sportster 1200 by the way. I’m about 180lbs and they don’t move at all, my friend who weighs about 260 also said they were way to firm. Hope this helps.
