About Progressive

Progressive Suspension has focused exclusively on American V-twin suspension since 1982, and its Monotube fork cartridges and 400/970/970G shock series are among the most common upgrades on baggers and Softails. For most riders the stock rear shock is the single worst part on the bike — this is the fix.

The Progressive 412 Series shocks deliver smooth, consistent damping, significantly improving the ride quality of your Harley-Davidson. Engineered with a durable double-wall steel body and nitrogen-charged valving, they offer enhanced control and comfort.

Why riders pick this

  • Smooth, consistent damping for improved comfort
  • Adjustable preload for rider weight and load
  • Durable double-wall steel construction
  • Nitrogen-charged for fade-free operation
  • Available in chrome or black finish

These 412 Series shocks are built for the long haul, featuring a robust double-wall steel damper construction. The high-pressure nitrogen gas charging and multi-stage velocity-sensitive damping work in harmony to provide a responsive and controlled ride, smoothing out bumps and maintaining tire contact with the road. This translates to less fatigue on long rides and more confidence when pushing through corners.

Adjustable Performance for Every Rider

  • Multi-stage velocity-sensitive damping for superior road feedback
  • 5-position cam-style preload adjuster for quick adjustments
  • High-pressure nitrogen gas charged for consistent performance
  • Durable double-wall steel damper construction
  • Available in chrome or black finish options

Tailor Your Ride

One of the key advantages of the Progressive 412 Series is its adaptability. The 5-position cam-style preload adjuster allows you to effortlessly dial in the perfect firmness for your weight and riding style, whether you're riding solo, with a passenger, or fully loaded for a trip. This means you can optimize your Harley's suspension without the need for complex tools or swapping out components.

Stiff

The shocks seem super nice, but they are incredibly stiff. Turns out they’re 130/200 top to bottom. Would be nice to have an option to choose your spring rate. Couldn’t find it in the description either. Have them installed on a 1998 sportster 1200 by the way. I’m about 180lbs and they don’t move at all, my friend who weighs about 260 also said they were way to firm. Hope this helps.
