About Progressive

Progressive Suspension has focused exclusively on American V-twin suspension since 1982, and its Monotube fork cartridges and 400/970/970G shock series are among the most common upgrades on baggers and Softails. For most riders the stock rear shock is the single worst part on the bike — this is the fix.

Progressive 412 Series shocks deliver a smooth, controlled ride for Harley-Davidson models, featuring a durable double-wall steel body. With nitrogen-charged, multi-stage velocity-sensitive valving, these shocks provide consistent performance and the ability to tune your ride.

Why riders pick this

  • Smooth, controlled ride experience
  • Durable double-wall steel construction
  • Consistent damping from nitrogen charge
  • Tool-free 5-position preload adjustment
  • Customizable for rider weight and load

Upgrade the rear suspension of your Harley-Davidson with the Progressive 412 Series shocks. Engineered with a robust double-wall steel damper body and a high-pressure nitrogen charge, these shocks ensure consistent, fade-free damping performance. The multi-stage velocity-sensitive valving intelligently adapts to varying road conditions, providing a composed and comfortable ride every time you hit the road.

Personalized Ride Dynamics

  • Durable double-wall steel damper construction
  • High-pressure nitrogen charging for consistent damping
  • Multi-stage velocity-sensitive damping for responsive control
  • 5-position cam-style preload adjuster for easy tuning
  • Available with standard or heavy-duty progressive springs

Unleash Your Bike's Potential

The Progressive 412 Series shocks allow you to easily fine-tune your Harley-Davidson's suspension to match your specific needs. The convenient 5-position cam-style preload adjuster makes it simple to adjust the spring stiffness, whether you're riding solo, with a passenger, or carrying extra gear. This adjustability ensures optimal handling and comfort, allowing you to get the most out of your V-twin.

Common questions

Can I adjust the preload myself?

Yes, the 5-position cam-style adjuster lets you dial in preload without tools. Simply rotate to match your weight and load for optimal performance.

What's the difference between standard and heavy-duty springs?

Standard springs are ideal for average riding loads, while heavy-duty springs are recommended if you frequently ride with a passenger, carry heavy luggage, or prefer a firmer suspension feel.

Are these shocks easy to install?

These shocks are designed for straightforward installation as a direct replacement. However, confirming fitment with your specific year and model using Shop by Bike is always recommended.

A really nice shock for the $

I bought these for my '06 FLHR and could not be happier. I'm 6' 275 lbs so I went with the heavy duty option. Took about 30 min. to change shocks and the ride has improved considerably, took the jolt out of hitting heaves in the road.

Fell apart just outside of progressives 1 year warranty.

While removing the rear wheel for some other service they just quite literally fell apart in two pieces leaving me with a garage floor full of suspension oil and one unusable shock. Spoke with their warranty rep who told me in so many words that it’s not their problem. Dissapointed to say the least.

Worth it

So far loving these, the ride is much smoother and an awesome look. Going for the 12" was a good choice, raised it but not too much.

Worth the money

Just changed from my stock Harley to the 13-in and what a difference it made. Bike handles better and rides better
