Progressive Suspension has focused exclusively on American V-twin suspension since 1982, and its Monotube fork cartridges and 400/970/970G shock series are among the most common upgrades on baggers and Softails. For most riders the stock rear shock is the single worst part on the bike — this is the fix.
Progressive 412 Series shocks deliver smooth, consistent damping with a durable double-wall steel body. They feature nitrogen-charged, velocity-sensitive valving for a controlled ride.

Common questions
Can I adjust the preload without special tools?
Yes, the 5-position cam adjuster requires no tools. You can turn it by hand to dial in your preferred ride height and stiffness, making on-the-go adjustments simple.
What's the difference between standard and heavy-duty springs?
Heavy-duty springs are designed to handle heavier loads, such as two-up riding or carrying significant luggage, providing better support and preventing bottoming out compared to standard springs.
Will these shocks improve handling in corners?
With their multi-stage velocity-sensitive damping and adjustable preload, Progressive 412 Series shocks can significantly improve your Harley-Davidson's stability and control, leading to more confident cornering.

Stiff
The shocks seem super nice, but they are incredibly stiff. Turns out they’re 130/200 top to bottom. Would be nice to have an option to choose your spring rate. Couldn’t find it in the description either. Have them installed on a 1998 sportster 1200 by the way. I’m about 180lbs and they don’t move at all, my friend who weighs about 260 also said they were way to firm. Hope this helps.
