Progressive Suspension has focused exclusively on American V-twin suspension since 1982, and its Monotube fork cartridges and 400/970/970G shock series are among the most common upgrades on baggers and Softails. For most riders the stock rear shock is the single worst part on the bike — this is the fix.
Progressive 412 Series shocks deliver consistent damping for Harley-Davidson cruisers through nitrogen-charged, velocity-sensitive valving in a double-wall steel body. A five-position preload adjuster lets you customize the ride for your weight and riding style without tools.

Common questions
Do I need to adjust the preload when I install these shocks?
Yes – use the 5-position cam adjuster to dial in preload for your body weight and riding style. Light riders generally use lower positions; heavier riders or those with passengers will need more preload.
What's the benefit of nitrogen-charged shocks?
Nitrogen charging prevents cavitation and foaming of the shock oil, which ensures more consistent damping performance, especially during extended use or aggressive riding.
Will these shocks make my ride feel softer or firmer?
These shocks offer a more controlled and consistent ride than stock. You can adjust the preload to make it feel softer or firmer within its range, tailoring it to your preference and load.

A really nice shock for the $
I bought these for my '06 FLHR and could not be happier. I'm 6' 275 lbs so I went with the heavy duty option. Took about 30 min. to change shocks and the ride has improved considerably, took the jolt out of hitting heaves in the road.

Fell apart just outside of progressives 1 year warranty.
While removing the rear wheel for some other service they just quite literally fell apart in two pieces leaving me with a garage floor full of suspension oil and one unusable shock. Spoke with their warranty rep who told me in so many words that its not their problem. Dissapointed to say the least.

Worth it
So far loving these, the ride is much smoother and an awesome look. Going for the 12" was a good choice, raised it but not too much.
