Progressive Suspension has focused exclusively on American V-twin suspension since 1982, and its Monotube fork cartridges and 400/970/970G shock series are among the most common upgrades on baggers and Softails. For most riders the stock rear shock is the single worst part on the bike — this is the fix.
Progressive 412 Series shocks deliver multi-stage velocity-sensitive damping in a double-wall steel body, tuned for consistent suspension performance across light to heavy riders. The nitrogen-charged design with five-position preload adjustment lets you dial comfort and handling without swapping springs.

Common questions
Can I adjust preload on the 412 shocks?
Yes – the 5-position cam-style preload adjuster lets you dial in stiffness for your specific weight and riding style. It's a quick and easy adjustment.
What is multi-stage velocity-sensitive damping?
This advanced valving system allows the shock to respond differently to varying shaft speeds, providing soft damping for small bumps and firm damping for larger impacts, resulting in a smoother, more controlled ride.
Do these shocks come with springs?
Yes, the Progressive 412 Series shocks come complete with springs, and you can often choose between standard and heavy-duty progressive spring rates to best suit your needs.

A really nice shock for the $
I bought these for my '06 FLHR and could not be happier. I'm 6' 275 lbs so I went with the heavy duty option. Took about 30 min. to change shocks and the ride has improved considerably, took the jolt out of hitting heaves in the road.

Fell apart just outside of progressives 1 year warranty.
While removing the rear wheel for some other service they just quite literally fell apart in two pieces leaving me with a garage floor full of suspension oil and one unusable shock. Spoke with their warranty rep who told me in so many words that its not their problem. Dissapointed to say the least.

Worth it
So far loving these, the ride is much smoother and an awesome look. Going for the 12" was a good choice, raised it but not too much.
