About Progressive

Progressive Suspension has focused exclusively on American V-twin suspension since 1982, and its Monotube fork cartridges and 400/970/970G shock series are among the most common upgrades on baggers and Softails. For most riders the stock rear shock is the single worst part on the bike — this is the fix.

Progressive 412 Series shocks deliver dependable suspension performance for Harley-Davidson riders on any budget. Featuring durable double-wall steel construction with nitrogen-charged, velocity-sensitive damping, these shocks provide smooth, consistent handling whether you're cruising or pushing hard. Riders can fine-tune their setup with the convenient five-position preload adjuster.

Why riders pick this

  • Dependable suspension performance
  • Double-wall steel construction for durability
  • Nitrogen-charged, velocity-sensitive damping
  • Five-position cam-style preload adjustment

These Progressive 412 Series shocks in black are engineered to upgrade your Harley-Davidson's suspension with a focus on durability and rider-tunable performance. Moving beyond basic factory suspension, the 412 Series offers a more controlled and comfortable experience, absorbing road imperfections with greater efficiency and helping your V-twin maintain better traction. The sleek black finish provides a stealthy, custom look.

Reliable Control for Your V-Twin

  • Durable double-wall steel damper body construction
  • High-pressure nitrogen gas charged for consistent damping
  • Multi-stage velocity-sensitive damping adapts to changing road conditions
  • Five-position cam-style preload adjuster for rider-specific tuning

Customizing Your Ride Experience

The ability to quickly adjust preload means you can easily adapt your Harley-Davidson for solo cruising, two-up touring, or hauling gear. This user-friendly feature ensures that your V-twin performs optimally under various loads and riding scenarios, providing a more personalized and enjoyable experience every time you twist the throttle. The black finish integrates seamlessly with dark custom themes.

Common questions

What's the difference between standard and heavy-duty springs?

Standard springs suit lighter riders or solo cruising. Heavy-duty springs provide more support for heavier riders, frequent two-up touring, or when carrying significant luggage. Confirm fitment with Shop by Bike before ordering.

Can I adjust the ride height with these shocks?

While these shocks are designed to maintain a stock-equivalent ride height, adjusting the preload can influence sag and slightly alter the settled ride height.

Are these shocks a direct bolt-on replacement?

Yes, Progressive 412 Series shocks are designed as a direct bolt-on replacement for most Harley-Davidson models, simplifying installation. However, always verify fitment for your specific model year.

A really nice shock for the $

I bought these for my '06 FLHR and could not be happier. I'm 6' 275 lbs so I went with the heavy duty option. Took about 30 min. to change shocks and the ride has improved considerably, took the jolt out of hitting heaves in the road.

Fell apart just outside of progressives 1 year warranty.

While removing the rear wheel for some other service they just quite literally fell apart in two pieces leaving me with a garage floor full of suspension oil and one unusable shock. Spoke with their warranty rep who told me in so many words that it’s not their problem. Dissapointed to say the least.

Worth it

So far loving these, the ride is much smoother and an awesome look. Going for the 12" was a good choice, raised it but not too much.

Worth the money

Just changed from my stock Harley to the 13-in and what a difference it made. Bike handles better and rides better
