About Progressive

Progressive Suspension has focused exclusively on American V-twin suspension since 1982, and its Monotube fork cartridges and 400/970/970G shock series are among the most common upgrades on baggers and Softails. For most riders the stock rear shock is the single worst part on the bike — this is the fix.

Progressive 412 Series shocks for Harley-Davidson motorcycles deliver smooth, consistent damping through a double-wall steel body with nitrogen-charged, multi-stage velocity-sensitive valving. Five-position preload adjustment lets riders dial in stiffness for light or heavy loading without swapping springs, ensuring an optimized ride for any situation.

Why riders pick this

  • Smooth, consistent damping for improved ride
  • Durable double-wall steel construction
  • Nitrogen-charged for reliable performance
  • Multi-stage velocity-sensitive valving
  • 5-position cam preload for easy tuning

Transform your Harley-Davidson's ride quality with the Progressive 412 Series shocks. These performance-oriented shocks are engineered to provide a significant improvement over factory suspension, offering superior control and comfort. The robust design and advanced internal components work in harmony to absorb road imperfections, reduce bottoming out, and maintain tire contact for a more confident and enjoyable riding experience.

Optimized Damping and Rider Customization

  • Double-wall steel damper body for exceptional durability
  • Nitrogen-charged for consistent, fade-free performance
  • Multi-stage velocity-sensitive valving adapts to varying impacts
  • 5-position cam-style preload adjuster for easy stiffness adjustment
  • Available with progressive or heavy-duty spring rates

Fine-Tune Your Harley's Ride

The beauty of the Progressive 412 Series shocks lies in their adjustability. The intuitive 5-position cam-style preload adjuster allows you to quickly and easily modify the shock's stiffness, whether you're riding solo, with a passenger, or carrying extra gear. This means you can always achieve the ideal balance of comfort and performance, tailoring your Harley-Davidson's suspension to your exact needs on the fly.

Stiff

The shocks seem super nice, but they are incredibly stiff. Turns out they’re 130/200 top to bottom. Would be nice to have an option to choose your spring rate. Couldn’t find it in the description either. Have them installed on a 1998 sportster 1200 by the way. I’m about 180lbs and they don’t move at all, my friend who weighs about 260 also said they were way to firm. Hope this helps.
