About Progressive

Progressive Suspension has focused exclusively on American V-twin suspension since 1982, and its Monotube fork cartridges and 400/970/970G shock series are among the most common upgrades on baggers and Softails. For most riders the stock rear shock is the single worst part on the bike — this is the fix.

Enhance your Harley-Davidson's ride with Progressive 444 Series shocks, engineered with proprietary Frequency Sensing Technology (FST). These shocks dynamically adjust damping in real time, delivering a plush and controlled feel across varied road conditions. Experience a new level of comfort and stability on every mile.

Why riders pick this

  • Frequency Sensing Technology (FST) for adaptive damping
  • Hand-adjustable spring preload, no tools required
  • Deflective disc valving for progressive damping
  • Standard or heavy-duty spring rate options
  • Available in chrome or black finish

The Progressive 444 Series shocks are designed to provide a premium riding experience for your Harley-Davidson. Their groundbreaking Frequency Sensing Technology (FST) intelligently adapts damping based on bump frequency, ensuring a smooth response to minor road imperfections and firm support for more significant impacts. This results in a consistently comfortable ride that reduces rider fatigue and enhances overall control.

Adaptive Performance for Any Road

  • Frequency Sensing Technology (FST) for automatic, real-time damping adjustment
  • Hand-adjustable spring preload allows for quick, tool-free tuning
  • Deflective disc valving ensures a progressive rate damping curve
  • Available with standard or heavy-duty spring rate options
  • Choose between sleek chrome or aggressive black finishes

Tailor Your Ride with Ease

With the Progressive 444 Series, customizing your Harley-Davidson's suspension is straightforward. The hand-adjustable spring preload allows you to easily set up your bike for solo rides, two-up adventures, or when carrying extra gear, ensuring optimal sag and comfort. These shocks are built to provide a superior foundation for your V-twin, whether you're cruising the highway or pushing through twisty roads.

Common questions

What is Frequency Sensing Technology (FST)?

FST automatically senses bump frequency and adjusts oil damping in real time — small bumps get softer damping for comfort, while larger impacts receive firmer damping for control.

Do I need special tools to adjust these shocks?

No, the spring preload on the Progressive 444 Series shocks is hand-adjustable, meaning you can make adjustments without needing any special tools.

Will these shocks improve my ride quality?

Yes, the advanced FST and adjustable features are designed to significantly improve ride quality by providing more consistent damping, better control, and enhanced comfort over various road conditions compared to stock shocks.

Stiff

The shocks seem super nice, but they are incredibly stiff. Turns out they’re 130/200 top to bottom. Would be nice to have an option to choose your spring rate. Couldn’t find it in the description either. Have them installed on a 1998 sportster 1200 by the way. I’m about 180lbs and they don’t move at all, my friend who weighs about 260 also said they were way to firm. Hope this helps.
