Progressive Suspension has focused exclusively on American V-twin suspension since 1982, and its Monotube fork cartridges and 400/970/970G shock series are among the most common upgrades on baggers and Softails. For most riders the stock rear shock is the single worst part on the bike — this is the fix.
Progressive 444 Series shocks utilize Frequency Sensing Technology (FST) to automatically adjust damping on-the-fly. This innovative design ensures consistent comfort across varying road surfaces, making every ride smoother on your Harley-Davidson.
Why riders pick this

Common questions
What is Frequency Sensing Technology (FST)?
FST is an innovative Progressive technology that senses the frequency of bumps and automatically adjusts the damping, providing a consistent and comfortable ride across different road conditions.
Do I need special tools to adjust these shocks?
No, the preload on the Progressive 444 Series shocks is hand-adjustable, allowing you to fine-tune your suspension without the need for specialized tools.
How do I choose between standard and heavy-duty spring rates?
The choice depends on your riding style and typical load. If you frequently ride with a passenger or heavy luggage, the heavy-duty option is generally recommended. For solo riding, standard is usually sufficient. Confirm with our Shop by Bike tool.

Stiff
The shocks seem super nice, but they are incredibly stiff. Turns out they’re 130/200 top to bottom. Would be nice to have an option to choose your spring rate. Couldn’t find it in the description either. Have them installed on a 1998 sportster 1200 by the way. I’m about 180lbs and they don’t move at all, my friend who weighs about 260 also said they were way to firm. Hope this helps.
