Progressive 444 Series Shocks - Harley-Davidson
About Progressive
Progressive Suspension has focused exclusively on American V-twin suspension since 1982, and its Monotube fork cartridges and 400/970/970G shock series are among the most common upgrades on baggers and Softails. For most riders the stock rear shock is the single worst part on the bike — this is the fix.
Progressive 444 Series shocks bring advanced suspension technology to your Harley-Davidson, using Frequency Sensing Technology (FST) to adapt damping in real time. This means consistent comfort whether you're cruising over small bumps or taking on bigger hits.
Why riders pick this
- Frequency Sensing Technology (FST) for dynamic damping
- Deflective disc valving for precise control
- Hand-adjustable preload, no special tools needed
- Progressive rate spring for consistent comfort
- Available in standard or heavy-duty spring rates
Dial in your ride with these high-performance shocks, engineered to deliver a superior feel and improved handling. The FST system automatically adjusts to road conditions, providing a plush ride without sacrificing control. You'll notice the difference in both everyday riding and more aggressive maneuvers.
Adaptive Damping for Any Road
- Frequency Sensing Technology (FST) dynamically adjusts damping based on bump frequency
- Deflective disc valving provides a progressive damping curve
- Hand-adjustable preload allows for easy tuning without special tools
- Progressive rate spring handles varying loads and riding styles
Optimized for Performance and Comfort
The 444 Series shocks are designed for riders who demand more from their suspension. With the ability to choose between standard or heavy-duty spring rates, you can tailor your setup to your specific weight and riding preferences. This makes them an ideal upgrade for touring riders and those carrying passengers or heavy gear, ensuring your Harley-Davidson performs optimally in any situation.

Common questions
What is Frequency Sensing Technology (FST)?
FST is a Progressive innovation that automatically senses the frequency of road imperfections and adjusts the shock's damping in real time, providing optimal comfort and control for both small bumps and larger impacts.
Do these shocks require any special tools for adjustment?
No, the preload on the Progressive 444 Series shocks is hand-adjustable, meaning you can fine-tune your suspension without needing any specialized tools.
How do I choose between standard and heavy-duty spring rates?
The choice depends on your typical riding load. Standard is suitable for most solo riders, while heavy-duty is recommended if you frequently ride with a passenger, carry significant gear, or have a higher combined rider weight. Confirm fitment with Shop by Bike for specific recommendations.
