About Progressive

Progressive Suspension has focused exclusively on American V-twin suspension since 1982, and its Monotube fork cartridges and 400/970/970G shock series are among the most common upgrades on baggers and Softails. For most riders the stock rear shock is the single worst part on the bike — this is the fix.

Progressive 444 Series shocks for Harley-Davidson motorcycles utilize Frequency Sensing Technology (FST) to automatically adjust damping in real time. This advanced system smooths out both small road bumps and large impacts, delivering a consistently comfortable and controlled ride.

Why riders pick this

  • FST dynamically adjusts damping to road input
  • Deflective disc valving for progressive damping
  • Hand-adjustable spring preload, no special tools needed
  • Standard or heavy-duty spring rate options
  • Available in black or chrome finish

Experience a significant upgrade in your Harley-Davidson's ride quality with these state-of-the-art shocks. The FST system dynamically responds to road input, ensuring optimal damping for every situation. This translates to reduced harshness, improved handling, and greater confidence on any road, making long rides more enjoyable and less fatiguing.

Intelligent Damping for Superior Ride Quality

  • Frequency Sensing Technology (FST) dynamically adjusts damping to road input
  • Deflective disc valving creates a progressive damping curve
  • Hand-adjustable spring preload allows for easy tuning without special tools
  • Standard or heavy-duty spring rate options available for personalized support

Customizable Comfort and Style

Beyond their cutting-edge technology, the 444 Series shocks are designed for rider convenience. The hand-adjustable preload lets you quickly modify your suspension to suit solo rides, two-up touring, or heavy loads. With options for different spring rates and finishes, these shocks not only enhance your Harley-Davidson's performance but also allow you to match your bike's aesthetic, providing a complete and tailored upgrade.

Common questions

What is Frequency Sensing Technology and how does it work?

FST in Progressive 444 Series shocks senses bump frequency and automatically adjusts shock damping in real time. Small bumps receive lighter damping for comfort, while big hits get firmer damping for control and stability.

Do I need to get my bike re-tuned after installing these shocks?

No, installing new shocks like the Progressive 444 Series typically does not require a re-tune of your engine or fuel system. However, adjusting the preload to your weight and riding style is important for optimal suspension performance.

Will these shocks fit my specific Harley-Davidson model?

Progressive 444 Series shocks are designed for various Harley-Davidson models. It's crucial to confirm your specific model year and chassis using Shop by Bike before ordering to ensure correct fitment compatibility.

Stiff

The shocks seem super nice, but they are incredibly stiff. Turns out they’re 130/200 top to bottom. Would be nice to have an option to choose your spring rate. Couldn’t find it in the description either. Have them installed on a 1998 sportster 1200 by the way. I’m about 180lbs and they don’t move at all, my friend who weighs about 260 also said they were way to firm. Hope this helps.
