About Progressive

Progressive Suspension has focused exclusively on American V-twin suspension since 1982, and its Monotube fork cartridges and 400/970/970G shock series are among the most common upgrades on baggers and Softails. For most riders the stock rear shock is the single worst part on the bike — this is the fix.

Unleash the full potential of your Harley-Davidson V-Rod with Progressive 490 shocks. Engineered with high-pressure monotube technology and deflective disc damping, these shocks deliver a responsive and controlled ride, whether you're carving canyons or cruising the boulevard. Dial in your suspension on the fly to match your riding style.

Why riders pick this

  • High-pressure monotube technology for consistent performance
  • Deflective disc damping for responsive handling
  • Hand-adjustable preload and rebound for quick tuning
  • Anti-friction internally coated aluminum body
  • Linear rate coil spring for effective bump absorption

Experience a significant upgrade in ride quality and handling performance for your V-Rod. The Progressive 490 series shocks are designed to provide a firm yet compliant ride, giving you confidence through corners and stability on the straights. Their advanced damping system ensures consistent performance across various road conditions, transforming your V-Rod's capabilities.

Precision Tuning at Your Fingertips

  • High-pressure monotube design for consistent damping
  • Deflective disc damping provides responsive feedback
  • Hand-adjustable preload for quick sag adjustments
  • Adjustable rebound damping to fine-tune ride quality
  • Anti-friction internally coated aluminum body

Built for Performance and Durability

The 490 shocks are constructed with a robust aluminum body that is internally coated to reduce friction, ensuring smooth operation and a long service life. The linear rate coil spring works in conjunction with the damping system to absorb impacts effectively, providing a comfortable ride without sacrificing performance. These shocks are a solid choice for riders looking to enhance their V-Rod's sport characteristics without compromise.

Stiff

The shocks seem super nice, but they are incredibly stiff. Turns out they’re 130/200 top to bottom. Would be nice to have an option to choose your spring rate. Couldn’t find it in the description either. Have them installed on a 1998 sportster 1200 by the way. I’m about 180lbs and they don’t move at all, my friend who weighs about 260 also said they were way to firm. Hope this helps.
