Scorpion EXO EXO-R1 Solid Air Full Face Helmet Matte Pearl White Small - Harley & Indian V-Twin

I tried many big names before choosing this helmet.

I purchased this helmet the same exact time as I purchased shoei's flagship helmet, The X14 and kept this scorpion. I also tried a Bell STAR MIPS (Ordered a medium and it was too large, shoei and exo r1 mediums fit perfect) . and currently own a shoei rf1100 and have also owned a rf 1000 and very familiar with the rf1200. Also own a scorpion at950 modular. I am a name snob and thought shoei was the only options for the race helmets.<br /><br />I will say the x14 has padding behind the ears that held the head better but the overall feel of the pads in the EXO r1 are better and smoother. The exo r1 is also lighter. I had all my biker friends come over and try on these 2 helmets side by side and every 1 of them said the same thing The exo r1 pads are better feeling (but liked the support of the x14 more), field of view was the same, felt lighter, and the design was great. and couldn't find 1 reason the shoei was nearly 400$ more aside from the snell rating and name.<br /><br />The EXO r1 is much quieter then any helmet ive worn. with the top vent open you can hear the air come in but with all the vents closed its almost weird how quiet it is. The neck and collar is actually really nice on this helmet, im not sure how it will be in the summer but we will find out. <br /><br />overall im really impressed with this helmet. I will update as I find problems and issues where it come be improved. I do wish it had 1 of the new nice design chin straps with magnets or something like that but im not complaining at the price I paid for a helmet of this quality. it doesn't feel like a budget helmet at all.

Decent helmet with a caveat

Shortly after getting the helmet, I unexpectedly crash tested it during a race. The helmet itself held up just fine, but the crash revealed a rather stupid design flaw. The vent switch on the inside of the helmet split my chin open, resulting in four stitches. Hard plastic ridges do not belong on a component that has potential to contact human skin. I'll probably buy this again, but I'll be either removing that vent switch entirely or trimming the ridges off so a repeat of this issue does not occur.

Saved my noggin

Crashed at about 30 miles an hour getting onto the interstate. Remember smacking the side of my head on the asphalt during the fall. Went to the ER and got a CT scan and had no damage, not even a mild concussion. I wouldn't be typing this if I didn't have this helmet on. It works. Just reordered my second one.

Saved my life.

Smashed my head into a van doing an illegal u-turn at about 60mph, and I survived. Glass fragments embedded into helmet but face unscathed. Escaped with minor head injuries, saved my life. <br />Wore the helmet for a year before my accident and loved it dearly. Quite noisy in my opinion, but I don't have many to compare in my head. Great fit, nice finish, and enough fortitude to go around.

Meh

Comfy, but for $400, I'd like it to not start falling apart after 2 months. The top vent contraption is slowly working its way off and I can't pop it back in. The inflatable cheek pads are really awesome. Everything about it, I love, from the snug fit, to the ease of face shield replacing, but I don't think it's worth it to get it again.

No thanks

From the start, it came with several manufacturer errors like the logo on the forehead was super off center, along with the bottom chin vent and the bottom rubber lining, paint chipping on the side by the visor, and other small paint issues. Cosmetically it was okay, though the wind buffeting could get bad at times. Not super loud, not super quiet. After about 2-3 months, the padding, especially cheek padding broke in way too much to where it felt like I was wearing a whole size up. Having to overcompensate that, I would use the air pump even more, and then it would pop the cheek pads out of their socket during my rides. For 400, I'd recommend something like a shoei.

R1` for the win

Out of the three helmets I own the Exo R1 Air Helmet is awesome. This helmet offers a lot ranging from, light weight, two face shields, pinlock insert, inflatable pads, and a separate shell size for large so I look less of a bobblehead. <br />I have three nitpicks, although the padding and liner are comfortable and I experience no neck fatigue, my jaw cries mercy resulting from the double d ring. The discomfort may be a result of snugging down the strap, but I like to know my helmet is not having an early departure in the event I kiss the ground. Secondly, this helmet is advertised as R1 - Air which I interpreted as a well ventilated helmet, its really not, my R420 helmet feels breezier compared to this. Oddly enough even without supreme air flow, this thing tends to get loud, I always wear ear plugs and certain days, not all, the wind noise is still annoying. <br />If you are thinking about buying this helmet, by all means buy it, its a great lid. If the heat, wind noise, and occasional nuisance of the double d ring repel your decision consider this; you're riding a motorcycle you're supposed to experience hardships, if flawless comfort is what you're looking for take your car.

Great fit, Quiet!

I've only owned one previous helmet which was also a Scorpion (EXO-400, I believe), and this one was definitely a big upgrade. Of course, the previous helmet was approximately half the cost, and I suppose you get what you pay for. Compared to EXO-400, this helmet is significantly quiet thanks to all the padding placements, and wind guards circling the bottom of the helmet. The fitment was quite tight to begin with, but after about a month or so of riding, it is now just about perfect! Just be prepared to possibly feel some headaches if you're sensitive, but after the break-in period, it will fit perfectly. The dark visor is great during the daylight hours, and the road is actually still visible at night. I wouldn't suggest riding with the dark visor on by choice, but it does work in a pinch. Also, the weight is also significantly lighter than the EXO-400 helmet. It was an absolute welcome to my neck. A+ rating from me, and will definitely keep me riding with Scorpion for the foreseeable future!

One of my regrets

I was in the market for a new helmet as the HJC RPHA11 was looking a little worn. I was originally going to simply get another, perhaps a different color, but then saw both a video blogger and another web site both give positive reviews to the new Scorpion. I have never owned a Scorpion helmet but have several pairs of Scorpion gloves and like them. Also, the Scorpion was priced similarly as the HJC so I thought I'd give it a shot.<br /><br />When I received the helmet, everything looked great. It came with both the dark and clear visors, a helmet bag, pinlock, and even a bag for the extra visor. I tried the helmet on and I have to say, the interior is super soft, like a pillow. The sizing seemed ok, perhaps snug, but then it's a sport bike helmet. I'm a solid Medium in every brand I've ever owned.<br /><br />I wish I had tried the helmet on longer in the house before I took it out for a ride. I wore the helmet inside for about 10 minutes and it felt great. Mistake!! After riding with it for about 30 min, I started to feel a little pressure on my right temple, which soon induced a major headache. Being someone that gets headaches from time to time, I decided to dismiss it. However, I noticed that every time I wore that helmet, I would develop a headache, with it first being some discomfort in my temple area.<br /><br />Needless to say, I was incredibly upset, having wasted over $400 on what looks like a nice helmet but is really a major headache! If I could have gotten past this, my issues with the helmet would be minor; venting could be a bit better, top vent had a whistle at times, sometimes caught wind doing head checks. All livable things in my opinion. The headache part, not.

Too small

Did not fit, so I returned it. On the size chart, I need an XL. I purchased the 2XL based on my experience helmet shopping so far, and it was still too snug. I went with the AGV K6 instead and it fit much better.<br /><br />In the short time I had this helmet, I did like the features, and think that if it fits you it's a pretty good deal.

Fake helmet

After only a few rides it's falling apart and the air pump develops leaks.<br />It was made with contact adhesive that's not appropriate to be used on rubber parts or a helmet in general.<br />Ultra low quality. I wouldn't pay more than $50.

Solid, but wind noise

Good looking helmet, ECE rated for it the extra protection beyond DOT approval. Snug fit but comfortable, padded chin strap is very nice. Lightweight. Shield gets blown closed at highway speeds unless it?s fully opened. Wind noise at 50+ is pretty loud, it all comes from underneath on the sides of the helmet. The wind deflecting off your shoulders and up into the helmet, haven?t figured out a fix for that yet. Overall a solid helmet. Without the wind noise, I?d rate it even higher

9/10 Overall - I have been using this helmet for about a month now and I have zero complaints. Luckily I haven't crashed with this helmet yet so I cant give my full review but either way.<br />10/10 Sizing - I went with the Medium sized one and it fits very snug around my oval shaped head.<br />9/10 Comfort - This helmet is super comfortable and not too heavy. <br />8/10 Noise - This helmet does a good job at keeping the wind from obstructing your hearing, there are defiantly better ones out there for sound but this one is a great choice if that is one of your priorities.<br />8/10 Visibility - I have a full field of view with this helmet and I can still see very well with the tinted visors at night. Also includes only one pinlock insert to help with fogging, you can purchase more inserts separate for multiple visors.<br />9/10 Features - The cheek pads that pump up is a very nice feature I find myself using every time I put it on. There are two different vents (one on the top and one on the chin), both can be closed and opened with ease.<br />7/10 Customization - There are also 6 different visors available for purchase after buying the helmet, I went with the Ruby Mirrored color one and I love it. I haven't tried yet but I feel like I might have a little bit of trouble mounting a chin GoPro mount because of where the chin vent is located.

Decent, QC is a bit weird I think.

Looks great, but idk if it?s something that I shouldn?t be worried about, but the fabric on the inside of the helmet isn?t symmetrical which once I saw it, really bugged me. idk if this is just a common thing for helmets but it doesn?t feel like it should be. For 400$ it could have felt more high quality but it still looks sick and fits well.

I love this helmet, super comfortable, tons of features, comes with dark shield and pin lock. I have the all white and the Bautista edition!

Worth Every Penny!

First Impression: <br />So much lighter than my other Scorpion Helmets. I also love the fact that the helmet has a very small profile. I hate wearing helmets that are too big and I look like a bobble head, that's why I don't wear helmet with the sun shades in them because they just look too big. This helmet is perfect in size.<br /><br />PROS: <br />The liner is different than the other helmets i wear, this one is really soft and feels good on my face. Not sure what the material is, but its got a really nice feel to it.<br /><br />The neck roll is great. I used to use the R2000 and that was a little harder to get on, so I like that they changed the neck rolls to a stretch material, so it seals off the wind better but is easy to take on and off. A+ for that!<br /><br />Helmet came with a dark smoke shield as an extra and also the pinlock film for fog, which is great that I don't have to buy separate. I wish they offered some kind of photchromatic shield though so i don't have to swap shields or carry an extra.<br /><br />Wind noise is slightly louder than my other scorpion 950, but my other scorpion helmet didn't vent much either. This one really vents well, so I am happy with that trade off. <br /><br />i read other reviews that this is good for racing, so I was nervous it would not be good for upright riding but I was pleasently surprised the aerodynamics are great at higher speeds and lane checking is great in this helmet, my R710 is really bad when lane checking, but this one is perfect, doesn't pull my head around. <br /><br />I wear glasses. so glad that my glasses fit in thee nicely and dont bunch up. <br /><br />CONS: <br />I don't really like the lock in the middle of the shield, i liked their old shield system better. but maybe i'm just not used to it yet.<br /><br />I also think the speaker pockets could be a little bigger. I was able to get my speakers in but it was very tight, but glad they at least have the pockets, because my last scorpion didn't have pockets in it.<br /><br />OVERALL: I'm very glad I pulled the trigger and bought this one. I've always liked scorpion because my first crash was on Scorpion and it saved my life. Only other brands I've used for street are HJC and shoei. I loved my old shoei, and although i can tell a little difference in the quality of shoei' to scorpion, since I am on a budget, I cant justify spending the extra money on a shoei when this helmet does everything I need and more. <br />i'll update once i get more time in it. so far only 230 miles.

Cheek pads do not stay in place and will not go back in. Plastic bits are cheap and not durable at all. Very uncomfortable helmet, I wished I went with a different brand.

Scorpion R1 Air

Great helmet. I had an R420 before and wanted to upgrade helmets. Glad I chose this helmet great view and good airflow. Great bang for your buck. Comes with 2 visors and one pin lock. The noise in the helmet isn't too bad. Not as loud as I thought the helmet would be. I would definitely recommend this helmet.

Awesome Purchase! Amazing Helmet!

So quiet! So comfortable! Installed the Sena 10c evo on it and this helmet makes my trips so much more fun!

I purchased this helmet a couple of months ago and it's an amazing helmet. The airflow is wonderful, I stay cool riding in 90 degree and very humid temperatures. My head doesn't bob and weave from higher speeds. All in all its a great helmet!

EXO R1 Air

Love this helmet! Was happily surprised when I opened it and it had a second face shield in dark smoke and a free pin lock included. It fits great and is very light.

Great improvement over the T520!

Like the title says, this R1 is amazing. I invested in a better helmet after using the T520 for 2 years. I wasn't able to locate replacement pads for that helmet and decided to invest in the R1 until they become available. The differences between the two are impressive. Softer pads in the R1, the comfortable neck roll, and even the vents are of higher quality. It drove me nuts having to listen to the chin vent vibrate in the T520. I will give another review after a few rides but after sitting in my house with the helmet in, I would highly recommend this helmet to anyone. <br /><br />Note: If you are between sizes, size up. I measure 58cm on the dot and I'm glad I went with the Large.

Extremely Noisy

I regret buying this helmet. It's nice looking for sure but extremely noisy after 50mph.

It's a horrible buy! Waste of money, very noisy. The wind whistles through like crazy drives me nuts

Top Notch for Less.

Fits well, not even needing the air pump system that it has. It's fairly quiet, at least compared to my Shoei Neotec 2, which is slightly louder. My only complaint is lack of built in sunshade like the Neotec.

Pretty solid

Quite nice. Good looks, very good protection at a solid price. It's comfortable and has all the right features. It's not super quiet, but it's totally fine below highway speeds and on highways just pop in some ear plugs and you're good to go.

One of the Nicest helmet I’ve ever owned

Great helmet in a mid price range!

Upgraded my 13 year old helmet for an investment in my survival rate. This helmet rocks. The airflow is definitely above 13 year old technology which is much appreciated. I used it for about a month and then for laughs put my old helmet on. I'll never wear my old helmet again, not even for fun around the house. If you're in the market for a good helmet that doesn't empty your bank account but also care about getting a good deal with comfort and effective features you should definitely just buy one. I have but one complaint overall. The paint is very thin. Like an idiot I was in a rush to roll my bike out of the way from where it was parked and had it hung on my handlebars. It fell and is now chipped pretty badly through to the primer. I'm so sad about it but would absolutely replace it with the same thing should something more significant happen to it. Just do it, it's a great helmet all around!

Solid Choice

So far I am really enjoying this helmet. I like the pin lock and extra smoke face shield it came with. The helmet is super light and fits nice and snug. Wind noise is kept at a min which is always great.

So far im really liking this helmet. Inwas using my icon airflight and was happy with that until it was time for a new helmet. I had done a ton of looking around watched videos and read reviews and finally settled on this. I couldnt be a<br />Happier. The light weight of this helmet has made my air buffeting so much less and made my riding far more enjoyable. Yes its got some wind noise bit at high speeds what doesnt?. I dont think my air flight was any better.

I must have a weird shaped head, none of the other brands fit me right. Scorpions just always seem to work. Wind noise is minimal. Air flow is decent. I love the air-adjustable fit.

Great lightweight helmet - wear ear plugs

Very lightweight helmet, good quality, comfortable after breaking in. My medium was snug at first, which is what you want. My only complaint is above-average wind noise.

Spoiler peeling after 0 uses

I am a tad bit disappointed with the helmet. The spoiler seems to be peeling and i haven?t worn it once yet. It kind of bothers me since i paid almost $500 for the helmet for it to be doing this when it hasn?t gotten put through no abuse/use whatsoever.

Scorpion EXO-R1 Air Helmet - Solid

Looks fantastic, pretty comfortable, a bit noisy. The vent cover on the top just decided to pop off on one side, the silicone or hot glue or whatever it is, holding it down gave away without impact. Seems like a sturdy helmet, but for the price I just wish cosmetically it held together better

Perfect helmet

I really like this helmet. It is very light and the wind noise is minimal. I followed the sizing chart and the helmet fits true to size. This is the first motorcycle helmet I have owned and I am very impressed by this helmet. I would definitely recommend this helmet.

Great Buy!

I wear this and my agv k6 collects dust! Super comfortable barley heavier and has more features. Better air flow has a little air pump and bladder to snug the fit around the sides of your head. Very stylish aggressive look.

Nice helmet, little more wind noise, but hopefully safer.

Previously owned a Scorpion EX-R420 in size 2XL. That helmet fit a little loose after a few months, and the black color absorbed a lot of heat in the summer, so I decided to get a XL EXO-R1, in pearl white, hoping the white would be a lot cooler. It is cooler in the summer, especially at stop lights, head does not cook as much.<br /><br />The fit is snugger as expected. For me the helmet?s wind noise is slight more pronounced than the R420, but also feels like more air flow. <br /><br />I like the pearl white color, but with the shaded face shield it makes me look a bit like a power ranger. Looks better with the clear face shield on, glad it came with both and a pin lock.<br /><br />Too snug for me to use the air pump fit. Have to stretch the helmet a bit to get over my head. After about 2 hours I do get pressure fatigue on my forehead. This was not an issue in the one size larger. Would preferred if they had some light gray graphics to go with the white, to break up the power ranger look.

Better than expected

honestly, I’ve been doing helmet shopping for a few months now. This was one of four helmets that I boiled it down to. My decision-making was definitely based off a lot of reviews and ratings, but I was really interested in the style of the helmet as well. Not only does it just look bad ass, but all across-the-board I am completely satisfied: comfortable, good airflow, nice noise reduction, you name it - it’s awesome! <br />Lastly, not because I’m a negative person but I always try to find at least one thing that could be better, or some thing that could’ve used a little more attention in the design process but there are no flaws.<br />I would highly recommend.. 100% worth the money

I honestly can't say anything bad about it, got this to replace an older Scorpion EXO-400 and it's everything I expected... terrific helmet for $400!!!

Disappointed

The rubber part by the bose pulls off when I put in the helmet

It's sorta like French Fries. Great when you first get it but not so much so a little while later

It's OK - Like take out food that has gotten soggy. It was real good at first but a couple years later it isn't that great. The trim at the bottom has fallen off. The weather strip / seal for the face shield is also coming off. The closue has gotten hard to open and when it does it often releases the shield from one side of the other. <br />I filed a warranty claim today. Normally I'd glue the weather strip on but that it forbidden in the warrnty. It would have also been easier than trying to create images with a .jpeg extension. .jpg is used by almost every computer OS and windows pretty much prevents changing the file extension. I sorta wonder if this is by design. Also - the retailer is unable to mail me a copy of the receipt.......

Great Helmet

Great helmet! Excellent fit and finish.

Fits great, light weight, extra visor and anti-fog shield make it an extra bonus/value.

Speakers

Great fit and sturdy quality however removing the cheek pads is not easy! There is also no slot for speakers like a Cardo so you have to fit them where you can which is tricky and frustrating. Overall a great helmet just not the easiest to break down when needed.

Excellent value helmet.

Excellent helmet, it's comfortable, good-looking, well-featured, and plenty safe. Haven't tested it in a collision yet, but this helmet is used in MotoGP even (size small, at least). The inclusion of a tinted visor and a pinlock give it excellent value while the little air-pump system is useful to make your pads fit tighter.

Great helmet with great features

Overall I'm really happy with this purchase. I come from using a Large Icon Alliance and Airmada. Both fit me perfect but I have had to try on 14 helmets to find a replacement that fits. I'm 50CM and intermediate oval for my measurements. <br /><br />I purchased the white version of this helmet. It gets dirty VERY easily but also cleans up easily so not that big of a deal. Helmet is snug but not too tight. I don't have to use the air bladder to make it tighter. It's about as quite as any helmet I've worn but I wear ear plugs and have a wind screen so I'm in a pretty quiet bubble as is. Vents are great, weight is nice, and it comes with a smoke shield which I wasn't anticipating. Pretty great deal for having a ton of features of the $550 Shoei helmets. My only complaint would be the shield is a little thinner than most helmets I've tried on. Not a deal breaker, but may contribute to noise.

Love this helmet! It?s very light and fits great! The only reason I?m not giving it 5 stars is because when you?re going above 50 there is a high pitched whistle, I?ve found if I lock the visor and tilt my head down it?ll stop but if move your head up you?ll hear it!! But even with that I still recommend!

Not bad but not great

Good looking helmet I'll give it that but it is extremely loud. I ride an mt07 and I get a bit of lift at about 50mph or higher the interior is nice but a little to soft and squishy for my liking even with the air system

Better than I expected

R1 Air arrived on time and as described. Very comfortable and light. The included dark smoke visor and pinlock insert made this a great value for the price. Would definitely recommend.

Great helmet for the price. *Not good for Cardo Black installation

I was looking for a new helmet that wouldn't break the bank, but also offered good protection, air flow and was lightweight and good looking. This Scorpion checks all those boxes nicely. Love that it has the pump to snug up the fit for track use, and also comes with a pinlock and tinted shield. <br /><br />You can tell the build quality isn't quite as good as my higher end Bell or Shoei helmets, but it's also far less money. It is almost as comfortable as those other two, but I wish every manufacturer would adopt the transition shield technology (like Bell and Shoei) so you only need one shield<br /><br />If you're looking for a helmet to install a Cardo Black unit with the larger JBL speakers, this isn't a good choice. The speaker cutouts are too small and the speakers stick out and can make it hard to take off the helmet without taking your ears with it

EXO-R1

Pros: Light weight, very comfortable, sleek design, decent ventilation and great value w/ the included pinlock & two shields. The air fit system is nice and the interior is super plush.<br /><br />Cons: The shield movement is sloppy (but remains open in partial positions. The shield latch can be hard to open with some gloves. The shield retention system is similar to shoei but much harder to use. Somewhat noisy (save your hearing and always wear your ear pro anyway).<br /><br />Overall: the pros far outweigh the cons. Recommended.
