10R Headset
I bought this headset about 6 months ago and have been using it mostly to listen to music while dirtbiking. I had some friends who purchased the SMH (previous) version and they returned them because the speakers were not good and there was a strange constant static noise. <br /><br />The 10R that I bought has worked well for listening to music. I wear ear plugs when I ride and the speakers are loud enough, quite loud if you're not wearing ear plugs. I've answered calls while riding and this has come in handy when your riding buddies get separated and need to call on the phone. <br /><br />The bluetooth intercom works well at short distances without obstructions. The range is limited to a few hundred feet and it doesn't work at all over hills. It is nice that it works similar to a phone call in that two people have an open channel after you hit the button. You don't need to hold the button and two people can talk at once. Using the intercom keeps the ride moving instead of stopping at intersections, killing the motor and talking. I have not tried the group intercom and I'm not sure how that will function with more than two riders. <br /><br />I've been happy with it and wish all of my riding buddies had them.
Great until it wasn't
We bought the Sena 10R Dual pack for a trip involving riding the mountains of Colorado. The installation was relatively simple. Taking the lining out of the new helmet was more difficult than installing the system. We paired the systems to our phones and to each other at home and they worked immediately. We were thrilled. We went on the trip and they worked great at first. The sound was clear. We have flip up (modular) helmets and I used the permanent mic on the side of the cushion instead of the boom mic just because I didn't want the boom sticking in my face when the helmet was up. It worked rather well except for a little wind noise picked up from my wife's helmet. I may switch her mic to a boom to make it more quiet. As a passenger, she doesn't get as much wind protection as I do. The sound was clear when we talked. We noticed on the second and third days that we would have to attempt pairing a couple times before they would find each other, but then work great after that. Then as several more days went on, we would have to pair four or five times before making a connection. On the last day, the units would not pair with each other at all. We tried all day with no luck. Thank goodness this happened on the last day and not the first. It's amazing how quickly you get used to talking to each other all day. Once communication is taken away, you really miss it. I emailed Sena this afternoon and was immediately sent a confirmation number. I guess we'll see how good Sena's warranty / repair department is now.
100% Recommended
Product parts seems to be good quality from the moment you unbox them.<br />Easy to install and set it up. Pairing with Mobile and with other intercomm<br /><br />Sound quality is really good even for noisy helments (I have a Bell Bullit and as it doesn`t have a chin skirt, window appear to enter and create noise). Nevertheless the mic anti-pop block it perfectly and you can have a nice conversation without effort. I have tested it at around 100 KM/H and outside noise does not affect performance.
Sena 10R Dual Pack
TL;DR<br /> - straightforward to install<br /> - easy to operate<br /> - works exactly as expected/described<br /> - well worth the money<br /> - would buy again<br /><br />The Sena 10R Dual Pack has turned out to be an ideal replacement for our ancient Chatterbox FRS/GMRS units.<br /><br />Operation is easy and the online owner's manual is well written and very comprehensive. Sound quality for music and intercom is surprisingly good and the overall volume levels for all inputs are slightly more than adequate - even with earplugs. Sidetone (the switchable ability to hear your own voice) really helps us talk without unnecessary shouting. <br /><br />Battery life has been better than advertised, and range has been almost exactly as described (remember: Line Of Sight). Bluetooth pairing with iPhones and a BMW Nav V was simple and, so far, reconnects without fail.<br /><br />Installation in a pair of Schuberth C3 Pro's took about 30 minutes each - but I did extensive interweb research beforehand. IMO, the key with the Schuberth is to make two tiny slits in the neckroll with a razor to allow the headset and battery pack wires to pass thru. Everything needed is included in the Dual Pack with the possible exception of a popsicle stick to help push the wiring between the helmet shell and lining.<br /><br />'Bike 2 Bike' intercom was our primary objective and since my wife and I ride alone 99% of the time we didn't need to consider intercom connectivity with large groups, or different brands. The 10R suits our needs perfectly, and I would definitely buy them again.
Great product for a little discount!
Already had one of these units and wanted to get another for a new helmet and for my bf so the bundle was great. Loud enough to hear with earplugs in, easy to remember the controls, and has lifetime updates.
Amazing Sena 10R
I really recommend. Excellent product with many features. Helps and facilitates much in piloting. Very useful in communicating with the croup and other riders. Very easy to interact with and the sound quality is fantastic.
Not too bad.
We upgraded to this model from SMH-5 because our kids (6 and 8) ride with us and gave them SMH-5s and my wife and I got these. Feedback:<br />1. SMH-5 much better sound quality. Lots of static between the 2 10R headsets. <br />2. Wish it came in other colors than gray. Both our helmets are black and the gray sticks out.<br />3. Thin design is cool but the middle button is sometimes difficult to find if you ride with gloves on (we do).<br />4. We are able to speak to one another (not via open intercom). My wife and I can connect to kids who have SMH-5 which is nice. Setting them up was a bit of a PIA but was good.<br />5.. Positives: buttons are better, App makes it easy to connect, and wife likes +/- buttons better than the dial.
Great Bluetooth Headset
Just purchased three units. Very happy. Still learning how to use it. Download app, has great manual.
Long-lasting decent kit
I've been using this in my Torc T-1 helmet for over three years now. It works very well for the most part and can keep a charge for quite a while, though not necessarily 8+ hours in the saddle pumping out audio the whole time. Weak points include not-so-great speakers and the foam over the mic, which has come off thrice, which may be due to the fact that I ride with my visor up quite often.
The coating rots after 4 years
Purchased a paired set on May 24, 2017. I also had purchased 1 additional from another site for a full-face helmet purchased later. I started noticing cracks in the middle button area a year ago. Put electric tape over it to protect the inside electronics. Pulled down a seldom used helmet that also had one on it, that one was completely rotten in the middle: Tape would not help there. <br />Partner's helmet was also cracking so decided to buy new sets.<br />Worked good no complaints but quality of materials used to make them water resistant is bad.
Must have intercom
Great product, been using it for almost 3 years no issues, under all kind of weather, works perfect.
Sena 10 R
Purchased the 2 pack and installation in our helmets was a breeze. Pairing the 2 was easy enough, but grouping can be a challenge. Once we figured out the correct order it was a little more user friendly. Sound quality is good but some depth of base would be nice. Overall They do what they should and I recommend this unit.
Much better than expected
These Sena units are way better than expected. Great for communicating and great for phone calls. Still learning the sequence for use of my iphone. Make sure the software update is the same for the pair you are connecting to. I am a music quality snob, so for music they are ok at best. For voice audio they work great.
