Sena has redeemed itself with the 10S
Longtime Sena user here. Had a pair of the very first SMH10's (non USB), then upgraded to the USB version. Still have them, and they continue operate pretty good, even after 2 battery changes. I kept looking at the 20S, however the numerous negative reviews kept me from pulling the trigger on the 20S units. Turns out, this was a good decision. I had even contacted Cardo with the intention of switch brands, but discovered that their unit would not operate in the manner I was looking for with my SR10. With the beating Sena took over the 20S, I figured they'd eventually get back to the basics, with a unit similar to the tried and true SHM10.<br /><br />Last week I took a chance, and picked up a Dual Pack of 10S units, and they work very well. Installation was simple, and the new mount appears more durable. Both of ours are mounted on ½ helmets, therefore we use ear-buds, instead of the included speakers. The pairing procedure is very similar as with the SMH10's. Paring to the iPhone 6 was as expected. The 10S paired to my SR10 with no issues, and operates with audio mixing as expected (the Cardo units will not mix audio from a SR10). The iPhone app also is a big plus for updates, and unit configuration.<br /><br />On the road test revealed that Sena has made some very good improvements in noise reduction. Not sure if the improvements were in the mic, or the device itself. Nevertheless, a very nice improvement over the SMH10. The FM radio works well for close by stations. Device to device connection distance is slightly better than the SMH10. The 1 mile plus device to device connection range would have to be in perfect conditions, and probably on the surface of the moon. However, I have no complaints with the connection distance, here on mother earth. The only grip I have, and have always had with the Sena units is, paired device priority. IMO, device connection priority should be user selectable. There are some of us who do not feel a phone call (especially while on a motorcycle) is that important. Other than that, Sena once again appears to have a winner with the 10S..
Look for something else!!!
I wish I could give this product a negative rating. Not for the product itself but the lack of customer support. I purchased this product a little over a year ago for a brand new Bell Qualifier helmet. You know the helmet that has the special cut out for the Sena 10S. You also need to purchase the special mount that holds the device into the helmet because the one that comes with the device is for regular external mounting. So an additional $60 something for that. <br /><br /> The issue is this, the clamp that holds the device in the helmet does not hold it securely. The device will pop off when ever you are putting the helmet on or taking it off. I contacted Sena for a replacement on this piece because the reseller tells me I need to buy another one because there is an updated clamp... The device has a 2 year warranty, so I contact Sena... ZERO help from them. So long story short, I have to duct tape the thing to my helmet so this expensive device does not fly off while riding! Not good!
Works amazing with a good helmet
Amazing. It really shows when you have a decent helmet. With little wind noise<br /><br />But. I was going a little over 70mph and I was having a conversation about the last dbs episode no issues with me or the rider next to me I was talking to <br /><br />On windy days maybe cant hear music as much after 60mph. But. Like I said. Helmet matters. This Bluetooth is the best and I would and I do 100% recommend to anyone
Good choice for 2 riders starting out with BT comms
Note I have a modular helmet so those with full-face helmets or tall windshields may hear more clearly.<br /><br />Having multiple mounting options, speaker spacers, etc. all in the box is a plus. Enough extra stuff is left that you could move the headset to a new helmet without buying more mounting supplies.<br /><br />The devices come paired so you don't have to do that.<br /><br />As I commute to work (all year), having the FM radio and phone sync is a plus. [My wife doesn't ride in the winter.]<br /><br />You will want to check if they come with the latest firmware. I had to upgrade.<br /><br />Setting the FM stations via the PC app is a snap.<br /><br />HTH,<br /><br />Greg
Stop wasting time and spend the money
Great Product, spent 3 days in the mountains with them.<br />Great signal strength and clarity.<br />Pairing with your phone took seconds, phone and FM radio clarity is just as good.
This was a Great Purchase
As a new rider my research steered me to the Sena 10S for an affordable and yet versatile intercom system. I was not let down when i finally got the box in. I was impressed with the relatively easy installation and syncing of the units - should have read the quick start guide closer as they are already synced from the factory. The speaker placement takes a little adjustment to get them in just the right place. I have been impressed with the sound quality both with the FM and the Bluetooth connection. Liked it so much that my kids are getting one as well. I would recommend watching the install videos as well - great product
it's a very cool concept, but takes a lot of thought to switch from mode to mode.
I just went a trip to the mountains of North Carolina. 6 riders went, 3 of us had the SENA 10s. Great clarity when communicating between us. The phrase " this thing has a mind of it's own", kept coming up. Sometimes all 3 connected easily, other times none connected and out of the blue, we reconnected. The command codes with the 2 buttons were confusing with the exception of turning it off and on. To date, I still have not mastered the Bluetooth phone connection, answering an incoming call and making a call works sometimes and doesn't other times. I think a lot of the issue is me not having a good feel for it yet. It reminds me of the first time I used an iphone, just takes some getting used to. Overall I think it is a good product (best on the market for now).
Finished a thousand mile trip communication worked great.
We bought the headset before traveling on a thousand mile trip. It worked great for bike to bike communication. The Bluetooth connection with the phone worked well and was very clear. The radio was adequate.
Great headset!
This is my first Bluetooth headset so I have nothing to compare to. I read a lot of reviews for the other models out there and found the Sena 10S to have the features I wanted. I am very pleased with the units. They pair up instantly with our phones and to each other. I have had no connection issues at all. Battery lasts a long time. Phone calls are clear and the noise cancelling works great. Music is ok. Obviously there isn't much bass which is to be expected. The FM radio works ok but there is some static so I just use music off my phone. Overall I am very happy with the purchase.
Okay but.....
They went in the helmets very easy. They paired with everything very easy. I can take a phone call but it won't ring in the helmet so I don't know I have a call. The sound is really good in the speakers. Over all its a really nice system, when it works. The intercom keeps dropping out. Seems like the unit just doesn't work consistently. When it all works its great, when its not its useless.
Product is great, customer service HORRIBLE!
I wish I could give this product a negative rating. Not for the product itself but the lack of customer support. Great product
This is a great product that was easy to install and petty easy to navigate. I was able to install in less than 15 minutes and was good to ride in about 20.
Excellent Bluetooth Communicator between motorcycles
I bought 3 of the Sena 10S units. One was a dual pack and one single unit. This is to install on the three helmets (myself, my wife, and step son). It was fairly easy to install on our ICON helmets (Airmada and Airframe). The hold a charge for a very long time (longer than our 4 hour rides) and the communication is very clear (we are seldom more than a block apart, so I cannot attest to range). <br /><br />We love the ability to talk with each other to alert for road or traffic issues, the need for gas or breaks, and just to be able to communicate while riding. Only owned for a month, but highly enjoy this technology!
No noise cancellation!
If you want Active Noise Cancellation, this product is NOT for you. VERY disappointed!!! only gets 2 stars because it is otherwise a great comms system. But until the manufacturer updates their software with constant active ANC, I will never recommend this product to anyone. The hardware is all there. it's even quality hardware. but FFS why the hell didn't they give it full time ANC!!!!!!!!!!!
Must have for two up riders!
Absolutely love these headsets! Easy installation and easy intercom pairing. (There is even a sena cellphone app to help guide you during setup). Love that you can stream your own music or tune into FM radio! Definitely recommend for two up riders.
best bang for your buck
we have had these for over a year now and they are fantastic. Makes talking with my wife a breeze and she gets to enjoy her own music on the road. Connectivity is great and they are super easy to install and use right away. Would recommend for sure.
Glad I finally bought 1
Very simple installation, first helmet took 30 minutes just took my time and made sure to get it right, second helmet took 10 minutes. Bought just for my gf and myself, rarely ride with others. Glad I bought this finally!
Use it on 2 full face helmets for my wife and I. She enjoys being able to listen to music for her phone, we both appreciate the occasional conversation. Being able to receive a phone call from the kid or sitter is a big help and makes us feel better while on the bikes. Wish the sounds was a little louder, but can have a conversation at 80 MPH. Range is fine for what we do, don't think we've been far enough apart to lose connection. First experience with blue tooth headsets, happy with purchase.
Impressed! A must have!
I read a lot of reviews on this site and others that stated the speakers don't have bass and aren't loud enough. Regardless I pulled the trigger on these. At first I knew what they meant. I placed the speakers in the recessed cutouts on my Bell Vortex helmet. They fit perfectly in there, so I thought it was good enough. After not being satisfied by that location, I looked though the packaging to find loads of other pieces I didn't use. Among those were some foam risers with hook and loop tape on either side and started experimenting with locations just around the helmet cutouts and found a great location lower and more forward in the helmet near the straps. Now the sound is awesome. Just like wearing a nice pair of headphones. My android phone has a built in equalizer that allows me to boost the bass at the sacrifice of a little music volume, but it's almost too loud anyway so it worked out perfectly. You want those speakers up close to your ear canals, even a small distance makes a large difference. Everything else is simple to do and works great! These are really nifty, and you wont regret buying them! Unless you need to intercom with more than 4 people, these will be perfect for your needs.
Awesome device
Don't let my 4 star rating sway you away from this product. It is a fantastic piece of equipment. My only gripe with it is that it takes some time to get used to all the functions. So become very familiar with all the functions and how to access and operate them before you go out riding. Besides that they are a great buy.
Great product but instructions leave you somewhat confused!
I finally got the system installed in our helmets, no thanks to the Sena instructions. They really need to produce a good video on how to get the wires into the helmet. The sound is good and level seems to be OK under most riding conditions. Still trying to figure out how to switch functions but overall this does seem like a good product.
Sena 10s
Great product, easy to install and operate. Would definitely recommend this product to anyone looking for a bluetooth communications device.
Spend the extra money for a better headset
The only thing it is good for is listening to music but even then, you can't navigate easily via the headset. <br /><br />Whatever is playing you'll be stuck with for the most part
Head set
Quality of sound not that great for communicating
Loren
Great product, ordered a second set for other riders so we can communicate during the rides. When by myself it's synced to my phone so I can receive calls or listen to music.
Provides a vital link
My son and I are new riders and I got this so we could communicate when we ride together. They provide a vital communication link with good sound and are fairly easy to pair. I wanted a system that does not require us to "think" to use either and this does just that. <br />We have not tried them with other riders yet, so our experience is solely between the two of us but it is an outstanding and needed addition!
First bluetooth system
Have had the unit for a week or so now. I generally use it for listening to music as most trips have been short about town. I set each unit myself and had to look up a YouTube video but it was fairly simple. The intercom works well being used while one person practiced doing slow maneuvers and the other watching. Have used the unit in order to make calls and the other side of the line could not tell I was even riding a motorcycle. In all I believe it is a very worthwhile investment. Still getting the hang of all the controls and functions. Battery life is great since I have only charged it once since I got it.
Nice unit, but it felt short in some area
I upgraded from smh10 to this 10S unit.<br />I will spare you with the detail functions as they're pretty well known and work as advertised.<br /><br />To me I would like to share the following <br />Between the base receiver and the speakers and microphone there are connections which I think is great for customize ability but sacrificed durability<br />I had the smh10 setup with my helmet and the wire came out from the base unit feels more durable, I have had no issue for the last 3 years using the smh10.<br />But the 10s wires are separated and they feel a lot weaker compared to smh10.<br /> I hope that will not be a problem for lifespan of the product.<br />Also about the loudness, when compared to the smh10 it is not louder all all.
Sena 10s horrible mount clip
I bought the dual Sena 10S so when I have a passenger we can talk to each other. Well when I used this with a friends daughter the Sena kept disconnecting the entire 4 hour ride. We could talk and hear each other and then we couldn't, both units were fully charged. Then on my ride back from SC to FL the Sena 10S fell off my helmet who knows where. The clip that snaps onto the body that is on the helmet is very insecure causing this expensive communicater to easily pop off. I have one left and had to use wire and duct tape to make sure it doesn't pop off like my other one. This is unacceptable for something this expensive to be so poorly designed. I never had these problems with my old UClear.
One of the best investments
No matter what sort of rider you are or the sort of bike you Ride, the sena is easily one of the best investments you can make, music, navigation, phone calls, linking up with friends and a whole list of other features all topped off with crisp clean sound that doesn't hinder you with over the top volume. easy to use while riding and looks pretty good too. The 10s is the perfect balance between price point and functionality
Clear talking
Just got back from Daytona. Dual pack always paired up! Very clear voice transmission. Radio, well, not so much...Jog button VERY sensitive, could be activated by jacket collar. Overall well worth the purchase price, will recomend to others.
great unit
we bought this with our other riding buddies and we all love it. we use it all the time, no issues with connections or sound, blue tooth works well
fantastic quality and battery life
replaced dual set of sena 5fm (which is also was very good) with new 10S and sound quality is amazing, no microphone noise at all. great battery life. great intercom and music sharing.
Meh
So far, I'm not impressed. I cannot get the set to stop trying to connect for intercom. Frustrating, as I have to shut out off rather than listen to music or hear GPS instructions. I've done everything I can think of to hide the microphone, even hide it beneath the liner in my helmet to no avail. I'm on a quiet bike and there's no real wind noise and I'm not talking or making noise. So not handy.
go different route
Cardo is better. These popped and kept losing connection
Like Sena 10S
Been using the 10S for a few years and have no problems with them. After learning how to operate it. I don’t use radio feature I tried it and it works but radio is not needed. I like the phone link and works great. I shimmed the speakers closer to my ears sound is great
Disappointed
These worked OK for about the first year, then it's been one problem after another. Firstly, the speakers leave a lot to be desired and even on my "quiet" adventure bike it can be difficult to hear at highway speeds. Secondly, we've had issues with the intercom disconnecting in the middle of a conversation. I've tried everything I can think of and now the intercom function has quit working completely. It seems to be a transmit/ receive problem. Very disappointed and will not be purchasing a Sena product next time.
Sena 10s head sets
This is our second set, first set were on our old helmets and lasted 12 years
Poor design
The way it clips onto the mount unacceptable. It has terrible pairing features and the range sucks. I would buy of last resort and needed a comm unit.
a good value
Great value for the money. Easy to install and they have eliminated 90% of the confusion when riding with a partner and provides pleasant conversation while riding
Returned it for the Cardo dual pack
Enjoyable, reliable communication
Got these for our street bike helmets-liked them so much we ordered mounts for our dirt bikes as well.
Most features don't work well.
Radio comms works ok from an AGV carbon modular. Totally unintelligible in an AGV AX8. Noise cancellation is totally helmet dependent. Audio quality for music is absolute garbage. Bluetooth directions are totally inaudible even at max volume on unit and maps app. Activating any feature other than connecting to another sena requires you to remember the Morse code of how many button pushes or how long to hold and how many notification beeps to wait for. The notification sound when you activate Google assistant in that scenario is painfully loud and distorted. I replaced a 10 year old Cardo unit with these and they offer zero usable functionality beyond that ancient unit. The phone app you need for configuration ONLY works if you enable location services for it - that is weird and shady as it should not be necessary. The firmware upgrade computer app does not work at all and hasn't for years judging by community questions. Support questions go unanswered. <br /><br />Only pro is decent battery life. It's fine if you just want to talk to another rider and happen to have a helmet quiet enough for it but literally everything else is useless.
The Sena 10S works extremely well in a quiet location but wind noise is a minor problem on the bikes. Ease of use is fabulous.
Exactly what we needed. Replaced Sena SMH 10
Fit perfect in my mag 9 helmet with the adaptor.
Touring the country together
The bees knees in hands free communication. Been cross country with nary an issue.
Great!
The best! Easy to use! Great clarity!
Works great, really easy to use, the speakers lack a little bit of bass when listening to music but definitely not a deal breaker. Easy to switch back and forth from com to music definitely worth the money
Not reliable
Set up was really easy but this was not a reliable unit. Originally worked after setup but 1 week later the unit wouldn't connect to the phone and the communication between the 2 units stopped working. So stressful on a ride. Returned them.
Useful, but not magical
Disclaimer: have never had a headset before and have only used this for about 200 miles of riding.<br /><br />Installation was fairly easy. Microphone and speakers install easily with included adhesive. Very thin, so I don't notice them at all. The headset mount itself is a bit trickier, depending on helmet style. I was able to use the "Clamp" style on my Bell Bullitt, but it is almost all the way open. Seems solid enough, but not ideal in my opinion.<br /><br />The headset actually creates a lot of wind noise even at fairly low speeds. Tilting your head to the side "fixes" the issue, but this isn't practical for long rides. The wind noise itself is not too bad, but it requires you to keep the volume of the headset quite high. <br /><br />We did not test the ultimate range of the headsets, but it is definitely less than 1.0 mile in the "real" world. Cars, trees, street signs, and really anything that blocks direct line of sight interferes with the signal. Not really a problem when actually out on the road, but navigating through a parking lot cuts in and out.<br /><br />The sound quality is quite "tinny", but that's expected given how thin the speakers are. The phone pairing works well and makes it easy to listen to GPS directions or music. It does take some time to learn all of the different button actions available.<br /><br />Overall I'm still happy with the product; friends of mine say this is a good improvement over other Sena headsets they have had before.
BATTERY ISSUES
Sena sold a product with known battery issues and wont RMA the product. My unit died after only a few uses a year, always kept charged and never dropped. This product has KNOWN battery issues. DO NOT BUY SENA PRODUCTS. They will not help you. I have older bluetooth headsets, cellphones, gopros that all still still work, but not this SENA product. Look it up online, "Sena battery issues" and you will see. DO NOT BUY SENA PRODUCTS!
Decent intercom setup
Installed in a Scorpion AT950 with boom mic and an HJC with the pad mic. Mic wire shouldve been longer on both. <br /><br />Works well. Sound is good both ways. Some wind noise from other riders, not too bad. <br /><br />Button press sequences take a little getting used to. Had a little difficulty getting it to do what I wanted sometimes<br /><br />Phone app is nice but doesnt work with IOS13 yet. That was frustrating while trying to set up a group intercom.
Sena 10s headset
Well, this was my first helmet headset ever. The installation was not easy. The installation manual is confusing and not really clear. I had to go to YouTube to see how it has to be done. Connecting two headset is easy and sound clarity is not bad at all. But when we tried to connect 4 headset together it was mostly hit and miss. And with every headset added, the sound quality get worst. Occasionally one headset get dropped from the group, and than randomly came back. It was not a distance issue, we were riding right behind each other. But... we had so much fun on our 13 hr ride. The battery really last for 12-13hr! We might did something wrong when we connected the headsets. Lots of learning ahead.<br />I think we keep it.
Even survived flying off my helmet at 45 mph
Didnt clip in well once and flew off my helmet. I havent had an issue since would highly recommend
Great buy
Very happy with them. Sound quality and very easy to operate while on the go, makes those a great purchase. 100% happy with them.
Sena 10S
Good device but not great. Adequate intercom, easy to connect. Sound is a bit tinny.
Good value over all
This is our 2nd set of Sena's. We are very pleased with the updates on this set over the last set that we have SMH -5. Truly the only complaint is the quality of the speakers the rest of the system works excellent. Just hard to hear music and what not at highway speeds.
Exactly as expected... Great!
I've had my first Sena system for over 15 years and it's worked flawlessly. Still working , in fact! I bought this for a 3,000 mile ride I'm doing with a buddy. It was just time to update. The features and quality of this unit are great, easy to install. You cannot go wrong with Sena.
these work most of the time.
Group mode is pretty hit or miss. I've spent way too much time trying to pair this into a group or just getting it to talk to the other one. (UPDATE: I've discovered that if it's paired to my phone, that seems to make it MUCH harder to get it to connect to intercom mode. Which is REALLY lame, since it's supposed to be able to do both. All in all, I find this pretty finicky for a device that is supposed to be the industry leader. BUT - I have to say that when I first go it, the clip snapped off, and Sena sent me a complete replacement unit, no questions asked. So, I have to give them major points for that. I just wish the tech was more consistent.
Great quality
I bought a set of the Sena s-10 and they work great. I like the fact you can adjust the speaker position to help with the sound. I also like the radio option they have built in
Great communication system
I love these Sena 10S systems and can't believe I waited as long as I did to get them. I cannot compare these to other Sena systems but I have been very happy with these.
Awesome.
I bought these to put on my shoei rf-1200. Quality and clarity is great. Sometimes I have problems with the intercom to pair, but I believe an update is available for them
Love it. Had a helmet with built in Bluetooth and could barely hear anything and calls were pointless. This cleaned it up very nice. You can actually hear calls and I'm always told I'm heard clearly as well. Not big and bulky and the range while riding in packs is pretty impressive. Easy to install on a modular helmet, not sure about others.
A great system. Super clear when talking on a call, easily concealable mic in just about every helmet. I always ask people when I'm on a call if they can hear me, they always say it's pretty clear. Music sounds great as well.
BEWARE
WITHIN 24HRS UNITS FAILED MANY TIMES WITH SOUND QUALITY, CUTTING OUT, MICS STOPS WORKING, THINGS WOULD WORK AGAIN AND FAIL. ONE UNITS SPEAKERS COULD NOT BE HEARD AT SPEADS ABOVE 25MPH. FOR THE PRICE THE UNIT IS NOT WORTH IT. WENT TO STORE AFTER 12 HOURS AND IN STORE SERVICE REP HELPED OUT A LOT BUT WAS TOLD TO TRY UNITS OUT AFTER SPEAKERS SPEAKERS AND MIC STARTED WORKING AGAIN. AS SOON AS WE LEFT SAME ISSUES HAPPENED. NOW THE OTHER MIC DOEST WORK AT ALL. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND TO ANYONE. COMPLETE WASTE OF MONEY AND TIME. NOT HAPPY WITH PRODUCT AT ALL.
Sena Customer Service the Worst
Received the 10s with a bad battery. sent it back to sena two month later they have not replaced it. OUT OF STOCK.<br />No idea when they will be getting them in.<br />Don't but there product if you want support.
10S with Freewire set up
Purchased the dual 10S pack and had no issues mounting and installing. One went on a 5/8 lid and one on the wifes 1/2 lid. I ended up using the sticky mount on hers and on mine I actually used a SMH mount with attached mic as mine had nowhere to velcro the mic. Works well. Hooked up on an 2016 HD Ultra Ltd with a Freewire. Works great and can use all Infotain. features. I even did a radio check with the wife in our truck on the CB. Going to get a 2nd freewire for her to use. Bike is in the shop getting a custom install (freewire) into the Tourpak for security.
Definite Need
I had the previous model and this model is pretty awesome especially with the new functions.
