Frequently Asked Questions
Is this tire DOT street-legal?
Yes — Shinko E805 is DOT-approved for street use, making it legal on pavement and paved roads.
What does M+S rating mean?
M+S (Mud and Snow) certification indicates the tire meets snow traction standards and is rated for off-road mud use.
Is this a radial or bias-ply tire?
This is a radial tire (radial belt construction) mounted tubeless (TL), offering better flex and heat dissipation than bias-ply for modern bikes.
Can I use this tire on a pure on-road or pure off-road bike?
Yes — the E805 works on both road and trail, though it's optimized for 40/60 on-road/off-road split. Pure road or pure off-road riders may find more specialized tires better suited to their use.

equal to TCK80 on road, seems to clear mud better
Application: Shinko 805, rear tire, R1200GS Adventure. Picked up this tire to replace a TCK80 rear. This tire has more endurance/stamina with less price, an important consideration for me as I put about 24-30k miles a year on my bike. But I'm not a pure highway only kinda motorcyclist, why would you put a 80/20 tire on for that? I also goof off as my skills allow off-road (think fire roads, light mud), and I feel that the 805 clears mud better than the TKC80. However, I am a significantly better road rider (sumo style roads, real mountain stuff that is only available in the West), and this is where I was really interested comparing vs the TCK80, and I am comfortable saying that the 805 exceeded my expectations re: cornering. I have more chicken strip left for the same roads on the 805 vs the TCK80, which seems to indicate a difference in tire profile and possibly even more lean angle available. I know my corner entry, steady state, and exit speeds so I was a bit surprised (in a good way). I can't definitively tell you that one tire or the other has more ultimate grip, just that I am able to achieve the same speeds through turns.<br /><br />Will update if I get a front 805 on.<br /><br />IMO, this is a no brainer if you are cross shopping the TCK80 and the Shinko 805 for the rear. Get the 805.

Great tire for the price
Just got back from a week in Baja with Raw Hyde Adventures. Over 2,000 hard miles on this tire. The on road traction is acceptable for a knobby, but off road I think this tire performs very well. It hooked up well in loose rocks, sand and even over very hard sharp terrain with a fully loaded BMW R1200GS Adv. On one section of rode, with other tires makes, the group experienced a total of 8 punctures. No issues with the Shinko!<br /><br />Rode back to Las Vegas at a very fast pace with almost 600 miles of pavement and the tire still looks to be about 50%. I've had other knobbies that would be long wasted after this type of abuse. For the money it would be hard to beat this tire.

Great tire at a good price
This is the second set of Shinko 804/805 tires I've used. The first set lasted about 7000 miles and still had some tread life left. On the highway they are predictable and have good grip, even on wet pavement. I have no concerns cornering them pretty good. Off road they work great. The deep tread hooks up well in the mud and loose dirt/gravel. They handle decent in the sand too. I also never had a puncture flat. I am getting ready to ride the UTBDR and have no doubt that these tires will work perfectly.

convinced me to buy a second set!
I bought the shinko 804/805's as a set, and have well over 9k miles on them on my 2006 KLR 650.<br />these tires are the first tires that I've had that seem to do almost everything very well. I can drag knee on paved twisties, and I can take my bike up hils that are hard to even walk up, even when muddy! My only slight issue with these tires has been lateral traction in slick mud, as I've dirt napped a time or two when getting rowdy in the woods, and having the front tire climb out of a rut when the rear wouldn't, or sliding sideways a bit when the trail is a tad off-camber.<br />For the money, I doubt I'll ever put anything different on my KLR, until somebody comes out with a better, knobbier offroad tire, that can also grip like a touring tire on the pavement, while still lasting close to 10k miles with an overweight rider and his 40 lbs of camping gear.<br />great deal.

Great tire for 50/50 with few drawbacks
I'm running these tires on my Super Tenere 1200. The stock Battle Wings were no doubt, 100% road tires. I switched them out for Avon Distanzias. The Avons were better in loose gravel but lacked lateral traction in the mud.<br />Now, I am coming off of a long stint in the sport bike world. My last bike was a CBR 1000RR. Having said that, I like to get into the twisty's and I really push the Tenere hard over on asphalt. I was worried about getting a knobby and giving up road handling. But then again, I found myself off roading more and more and really needed a decent mud/loose terrain tire.<br />I went with the Shinko and had them balanced with Dyna Beads. Just a warning, I have ridden on new tires before and know what to expect until they have been scuffed, however, I found the Shinkos down right scary right out of the shop. I'll describe them as almost greasy feeling. I put about 10, sketchy miles on them, gradually breaking them in. Then I took them off road and wow! The traction control of the Tenere didn't kick in at all on trails that I had slowed to a crawl the week before with the Avons.<br />Once they were sufficiently broken in, I find that they handle as well as the Avons, despite their "Paddle Wheel" design.<br />I gave them average for wear life as I have only put a few hundred miles on them at this point but, at the price, I don't mind slightly less wear life.

Great tires even at a higher price!
I ride an F800GS and bought a set of Big Blocks after having ridden through 2 sets of TKC 80s (front and rear), and one Heidenau K 60 (rear only). The Big Blocks rumbled at first but after about 500 miles they became much smoother. They wear very well. Over 1K miles and minimal wear. The rear is not as good as the TKC 80s off-road but it is very close...more so than the Heidenau. I think you would only notice if you were riding hard and pushing the bike's off-road capability. The Big Block front is wearing well, tracks better on road than the TKC 80, and performs very close to the TKC front when off-road. They perform well in wet weather. Roll into turns well. I did not like the Heidenau off-road nor did I like how it squared off after 2K miles. The TKCs wear very fast...not a big deal if you are truly doing most of your riding off-road. I did not like how the TKC front cupped and it would track all over the highway if there were grooves. So far I am very satisfied with the Big Blocks. Great price, great wear, very good off-road. My new go to tire.

Awesome tire for the money!
I installed one of these on the rear of my 800GS for a trip to Arizona. I had to ride a lot of highway miles to get to the dirt sections, and this tire was amazing! It handled everything I could throw at it. DEEP sand, loose rock, VERY deep mud, snow, and miles of twisty asphalt (a lot of it in heavy rain). Very good traction in all conditions. Total miles for the trip was around 2000, and it still has at least that left on it. I have run TKC80's most of the time and wanted to give this tire a shot. I was very impressed and will definitely buy another one. Very comparable to the TKC, but way cheaper, and it looks like it will last longer also. You won't be disappointed with this tire!

Shinko 804/805 - Amazing - R1200GSA
I've tried a lot of tires and rarely run the same ones twice. With so many choices, i'm always looking for better. These are amazing and great quality. I was pretty nervous about ordering Shinko because I've always gone with "name" brands. I am on my 2nd set now with a 3rd one being ordered today. Great wet and dry traction;as long as you remember it's not a pure street tire. I can get about 7500-8000 miles from the tire and that's running it to 2mm vs all the way down. Even at prolonged high speed highway use, they don't seem to wear out. I love these tires and the price makes them that much better

Sand? On an ADV bike? Yes.
Whattup, I was invited to a dunes excursion without a dirt bike. What's a man to do?<br /><br />Shinko 805s on a V-Strom 650.<br /><br />Straight up, these were the only things that kept my bike moving forward on silty sand. Everything was against me, especially a 500lb motorcycle that I forgot to empty the tank before taking on the dunes. The back tire blocks are like paddles that just dig in immediately. I was digging my own 6 ft under graves in the sand with the back tire, luckily I never needed to use them. <br /><br />And yet, for a rider who has *never* rode sand before, I was keeping up with the ATVs and dirt bikes. <br /><br />I legitimately have never run these on dirt, on the road, on anything but sand. They went on right before the dunes and came off right after. And you know what? They'll be going right back on the next time I go. <br /><br />So this review is nearly useless to almost anyone who is going to buy these tires. But if you're a madman like me, and think that your R1200GS or maybe even your liter bike would be a good dune racer, then these are the tires to get.

No dissappointment here!
This is my second set. The first was changed out at about 4500 miles, with some road, and mild dirt miles left on them. I changed them out for another set for my 3500 + mile adventure to Colorado.<br /><br />They never let me, or the behemoth Tiger Explorer XC down.<br />Rider error and fatigue laid the "TEX" down a few times on some rough trails out in Colorado, NOT the Shinko's... they did their job, as one could expect, given the task.

Shinko 804/805 on DR650
Mounted a set on a DR650 that is used for commuting and dual sport. So far, after a couple-hundred miles, these tires are performing nicely. They grip better and vibrate less than the half-worn Shinko 244s they replace. Very smooth on the <br />highway, a little vibration at low speeds <25 mph. <br /><br />Have only had them in the dirt for a few short runs at street pressure. Even then, they tend to grip more than slip. Don't know about wet grip. Can't comment on longevity yet. I tend to be pretty easy on my tires and would consider 4,000 miles on the rear acceptable for a knobby.<br /><br />Look out for a little metallic tag inside the tire. I found one on the front tire, couldn't find it on the rear. These tags have been reported to cut tubes.

R1200GSA
These tires hook up Fantastic! Great traction everywhere. I put these on for a Death Valley trip and loved them in the sand. They did very well in the loose gravel roads and also shed mud well. I felt they handled well and breaked well on wet pavement. Good off-road performance and held up well in sharp rocks without ripping off knobbies and no punctures or cuts. The only negative thing I can say about them is that I did not get 1000 miles out of the rear. The front would have lasted a bit longer but I changed them both out just before 1k. They might be better suited to lighter weight lower HP bikes.

2016 Suzuki DR650S
I had a set of the Shinko Big Blocks mounted up on my Suzuki DR650S. I put a 130-80 on the rear (larger than stock 120-90) and it fit perfectly fine; not even close to a fitment issue. I've been running TKC80s and am finding the Shinkos to be comparable in performance on and off road. I have a lot of sand and mud when I get off the paved roads here in Florida. On the pavement they're a little more stable than the Conti's that had a tendency to wobble a little. I've only been getting 3K miles and less with the Contis so I'm hoping for some longer life out of these Shinkos. Reviews seem to indicate that they wear much longer, but I'm just into them a few hundred at the moment. I do like them quite a bit though so far.

Best tires Ive ever had on a bike. They love gravel, mud, dirt, rain and surprisingly asphalt. On my klr they went from scraping the pegs on the back of the dragon to blasting through sections of the MABDR. 4000 out of the rear and 6000 out of the front. Money well spent.

Like this tire!
Just completed a 1000 mile ride with my first ever set of 804/5s on my Triumph Tiger 800XC. Rode about 750 miles on rode with mountain twisty sections, rural roads and superslab and about 250 on forest service dirt roads. This tire is a big improvement over the K60 Scout rear/TKC 80 front combo that I had been running. It compares very well to TKC 80 front and rear for a lot less money. Great feedback, great grip on the pavement (for a 50/50). In the dirt it was equally impressive, though i have not yet experienced it in sand or mud. If I can get 5000 miles or more out of the set, I will be back for another set for sure!

Much more than expected
I decided to give these a try after reading so many excellent reviews. Must say that these tires have impressed. I put these on before a 2,300 mile trek from Homer, Alaska to Dead Horse, Alaska and back. Mixed riding with some muddy jeep trails added in. Lots of fire road/dirt road miles with broken pavement and highway miles. <br /><br />Traction was never a problem, especially in the mud and water crossings. Higher speeds in paved corners, nothing but confidence.<br /><br />Not as much confidence on the road in the rain, at least on the front tire. <br /><br />Also the front tires pushes a bit through gravel, not a problem I have had with other tires. <br /><br />Milage is excellent. Definitely lasts longer than the Conti TKC80s and the Michelin Anakee (newest version).<br /><br />Overall. the value is fantastic and will replace these with another set of the same.<br />The bike: Yamaha SuperT

Shinko 805 on Yam Super 10
I put this rear tire on my '16 Super Ténéré for a foray into the back roads & woods of PA. The tire performed well especially after a large rain event that left all surfaces quite slick. I rode nearly 400 miles on the slab to get there and back plus the 300 miles of off road riding the tires performance was assuring. I'm not yet able to speak of treadlife though others have shared outstanding mileage on a big bike in comparison to other block type tire. If all proves as expected I will replace this 805 with another.

Myth Busted: 805 lateral traction is fine
Kind of late to the Shinko 804/805 party it seems. I've heard that it's such a great 60/40 tire and got to experience that truth on a trip out to Green River, Utah to do some white water rafting with my daughter. But before that happened I took the tires out for a bit of extreme desert riding with Jerry visiting Burro Schmidt Tunnel and then McIver's Cabin. Lots of deep sand, rocks, ruts, gravel. All day long.<br /><br />I can put to rest this myth that the 805 rear "has no lateral traction." That's total BS. I had a REALLY hard time getting it to cut loose in corners. When it was on its last third of wear? Sure, it would cut loose but just like any other 60/40 tire does on its last third of wear.<br /><br />So then there's the Utah trip where I really appreciated the Shinko's 60/40 road manners. Lots of twisty pavement. Hot pavement too! Turns out I ran the entire 670 or so mile there under-inflated at around 30 psi! Apparently that didn't affect the tread life as I'm still looking to get ~4500 off the rear before it's done.<br /><br />This "party" I was late to is what you hear rider after rider say which is this is the best 60/40 tire out there for the money. $200 gets you a set front and rear and that's hard to beat. Apparently they're also made in the same factory as the TKC-80's. This rear block design kind of makes you want to take a knobby knife to the lugs to make it look more like the TKC-80 but honestly the lack of dirt traction at the last third of tread life differs little from that gold standard tire.<br />Pro's<br /><br />Great tread life<br />Great off road traction<br />Truly great 60/40 pavement grip<br />Unsurpassed value<br />Super easy to break the rear bead when removing<br />Stiffer sidewall than TKC-80<br />Cons<br /><br />Might take a knobby knife to the rear blocks if you're so inclined

I ran these front and back on my KTM 990 Adventure through entire COBDR and I can't say enough about these tires. Most of the other 10 riders I was with ran TKC80s and these did as well or better in all areas-loose gravel, rocks, sand, mud, water and asphalt. PLUS- much better wear. I expect to get around 5,000 miles and could keep going, but I'm putting new on.<br />They seem heavy, but are super durable which is the way I like it on a hard hit.

Pleasantly surprised
Went to a dealer in Oregon to switch my street tires for TKC 80's. They were out of stock so therefore showed me the Shinko's. I'm currently on a trip from the Canadian border to the Mexican border and I figured why not torture test them. <br />At this point I've had them on rocks, gravel, buddy single and double track, wet and dry pavement on a fully loaded down 1190 R. <br />They're at least as good if not better off road. Clear mud better than the TKC 80'S do. <br />On twisty pavement and high speed hiway they are vastly superior. <br />People say they last longer. I'll find out on this trip if that is true or not, burst almost half the he price who cares.

Great Dual Sport Tires
I've used Conti TKC 80's and Heidenau's on my BMW. I opted for the Shinko's for their price point and was not disappointed. EXCELLENT dirt tire (24-26psi on Mid Atlantic Discovery Route) and very impressive two lane/single lane pavement handling performance on both dry and very wet pavement though I did not push them as hard as a 90/10 dual sport tire. Only notable issue was a slight front end wobble passing big rigs on interstate above 80mph. Tread wear TBD but appears to equate to TKC80 wear patterns. Highly recommmended.

Worth the price is genuinely an understatement.
Bike is a Triumph Scrambler 1200 XE, weighs a little over 450 lbs. I?m ultra impressed with these tires for the price. <br /><br />The first rear I got 4,500 miles out of, and that was riding about 90% street. Very impressive for a 40/60 tire imho. The front is still at 80%, so I ordered another rear to ?run out? with it.<br /><br />The handling on road is super impressive for how knobby these are. They are the quietest big block tire I?ve run on street, and one of the smoothest. Almost no movement in tight corners, even at high speeds, and yes, I get down with the swervies.<br /><br />The lug pattern taper is stellar. I?ve been all the way down to the very outer lug on pavement, with the peg feelers touching several times, and they?ve NEVER slipped at all. <br /><br />Off-road, they handle amazing. The closest thing I?ve found to acting like a true knobby I?ve found to date. <br /><br />Can?t get more bang for the buck!

All around great tires!
I put these tires on a 2017 R1200 GSA for a 5 week trip across the US. The bike was packed out and loaded down, and I got about 6,500 miles out of the rear. I probably could have gotten another 1,000 miles out of it, but with the chance of more off-road riding, I decided to replace it. The front still has plenty of tread at the end of the trip with over 7,400 miles on it. Tires held up really well on road, and off. I think we did about 70% street, 30% gravel/dirt. Great traction across the board on all surfaces, especially on-road in the rain. Extremely happy with them. Rain grooves felt a little wobbly, but definitely nothing to worry about. <br /><br />We did everything from cold/frost (26 degrees) in the mountains, to 109 degrees in the desert. Rode through rain, hail, mud, sand, dirt, street, pot holes, streams over bridges, the works. Definitely will keep buying these tires.

For the record, I haven't had these offroad yet. I just put them on, took them on the twisties and highway around the house and am smiling. They grip, ride comfy and no vibrations!!! And not even loud on the highway, my shinko 705s were louder. I was ready to bite the bullet and give up the sporty feel of the bike on pavement cuz I was sick of slip-n-slide offroad. U can feel the rolling resistance, but can also feel the gummy soft rubber absorbing it. This coming from Heidenau's that I hated, super high vibrations and center strip made the bike dive all over on the highway. Tiger 800xcx rider here, im sold. Truly impressed!
I purchased the Shinko 804/805s after being told by a few fellow riders that they were a good, cheaper alternative to the more expensive, almost the same tread patterned Continental TKC80s. I originally bought a set of Motoz Tractionator Adventure tires, to replace the 90/10 tires that came stock on the 2016 Honda Africa Twin, and while I thought they were a decent tire, the Shinko proved that thought wrong! <br /><br />In the dirt, the Shinko hooks up A LOT better than the Tractionators. The Africa Twin is my first adventure bike and it's also my first dirtbike/offroad bike. I have never ridden dirt before owning the Africa Twin, so naturally I feel a bit nervous when riding the fire roads through the Jersey Pine Barrens. The Shinko tires gave me the confidence that the Motoz's lacked. After the 50 mile ride, on 8-20-17, and then a 30 mile ride, on 8-22-17, through the Pine Barrens, I fell in love with the Shinkos.<br /><br />The Shinko's on road manners are great as well! I can lean through the turns feeling confident that the bike isn't going to slip. There is no noise with these tires and the front tire does not make the bike want to wander all over the road when I hit a crack or line in the asphalt. <br /><br />As for tread wear, I have only put 200 something miles on them so far but they don't show any real signs of wear yet. Fingers crossed for at least 5000 miles out of them. I guess only time will tell. <br /><br />Would I recommend these to a friend? Hell yeah I would!!! <br /><br />Will I buy another set? If I get 5000 miles out of them, YES YES YES!

Great tire that I keep going back to
Regardless of price, these tires are great. Considering the price, they're just about impossible to beat when it comes to mixed-use rubber.<br /><br />These tires are biased more towards off-road than on-road, so I'll begin by critiquing their behavior when slabbing it. <br /><br />On-road - GREAT performance. Granted these aren't super soft and super sticky, they still offer more than ample amounts of grip on pavement whether it's wet or dry. Cornering ability is nothing to scoff at. I've had these tires riding along the edge at all speeds and they are always predictable. They never feel like they're ready to wash out and they don't feel like they're unstable. On the straights, I've had these tires singing along at 80+ mph for hundreds of miles multiple times and never any issues. Everything feels planted and secure. Considering how good these are off-road (see below), it's amazing that they can work so well on pavement.<br /><br />Off-road: even better! I've had these tires in the deep, soft sand of southern NJ and they worked very well. The rear tire almost has a "paddle" design to the lugs, which worked really well to sling that sand halfway across the Atlantic. I've also ridden these tires through large gravel, small gravel, rock beds, water crossings, wet grass, tall grass, wet clay, hard pack and deep mud - basically any condition you can imagine. Never did they leave me feeling like I needed more tire. The large spacing between the blocks sheds mud easily - a friend with his TKC80s was getting his tires packed up while the 804/805s kept clear. Grip has hardly ever been an issue.<br /><br />I've logged somewhere around 6-7k miles on the rear tire, probably about 1k miles were off-pavement. The rest of the miles would be either high-speed slab and commuting a mixture of city and highway. The rear tire is about ready to be replaced as it's got about 2/32" left in the center and are beginning to make some noise at higher speeds. They DO still feel stable and secure. The front tire is still holding up great and will probably go another 3k before I start thinking about replacing it. Neither of the tires have any chunks or lugs missing, no scars or gashes.<br /><br />However, these tires are not perfect. The sidewalls seem to be relatively soft. When I go off-road, I like to air down for added grip but with these I tend not to go as low as I'd like because of the soft sidewalls. I have cast wheels so I do not want to risk bending/breaking a wheel by airing down too far. The upside to the soft sidewalls is that the tires are a breeze to remove/install if you're doing them yourself with a couple of tire spoons. I also am not totally crazy about the look of the rear tire - as it wears down it just sort of looks like a worn out dune tire. Not that big of a deal, especially as I believe they look the way they do because they were created using the function over form mantra.<br /><br />Overall, it's a hard tire to beat and when you consider how inexpensive they are, other choices just don't make sense for those of us who log a lot of miles.

Shinkos on a GSAW
110/80-19 and 150/70/17 These are not the spec sizes for the 1200 GSAW, but they work and work well. I installed them with Ride On TPS instead of balancing them and they were great from the start. I'm coming off a a set of K60s that terrified me at times in loose gravel and sand. Rode this weekend to places I have avoided because of close calls, and the Shinkos were totally predictable and stable. I had forgotten how soft the ride is on knobbies after riding the Heidies for the last 6k miles. Yes, that's what they lasted. I'm a little heavy on the throttle at times. The road characteristics were great as well. Gone is the ear piercing, high pitched whine of the front. They drop into corners amazingly well and stick. I have only 1k miles on them, but they look great. I put 200 hard offroad miles on them this weekend near Cherahola. If I get 3k out of the rear, I will be ecstatic. If I get 4k, I will think I have found the holy grail. I ride about 80% road commuting to work and 20% dirt, but that is not by choice. I won't sacrifice dirt worthiness for mileage ever again. I work hard, and I want my fun time to be FUN! Very good tire, and for the price, they cannot be beat in my opinion.<br /><br />PS. I gave Tread Life a 4 simply because I have not killed them yet. Tread life is the bottom of my requirement list anyway.

Awesome tires!!
Got the 804/805 combo put on my Tenere 700 in a pinch during a 8,000 mile round trip across the country and back, these were the only tires I could get at a shop in Tennessee after gashing both of the stock Pirelli's on a chunk of metal on the road. Bike was loaded with about 70lbs of camping stuff and clothes, plus me at 190lbs. These lasted from TN across TX to AZ, then up through CO to ID and then all the way back across the top of the country, down MI and back to PA. Probably 1000 miles of dirt and the rest blacktop with a lot of highway. They still had some life in them at the end of the trip but I got a new set anyway. These tires, for the money, cannot be beat, hands down. They handle normal on the road, wet or dry. Pretty good on dirt roads, rocks and shallow sand. I don't think I will ever try any other tires, these are great.

Great value off-road tires with some caveats
Pros: Long-lasting, great off-road grip on intermediate/hard terrain, and affordable.<br /><br />Cons: Not very planted at high speed. Cornering feels strange compared to a dedicated street tire. Larger knobs don't "bite" into soft terrain as well as a traditional dirt bike tire. <br /><br />This is the second time I've mounted these on a big adventure bike, the first being on a 2015 KLR, and this time on a Tiger 955i. They feel exactly as I remembered. I had much better grip and control than a riding buddy when we got into some slick ruts. At highway speed, the front end gets VERY light and wants to float around, which hasn't been an issue for me, but it's something to be aware of so you're prepared when it happens. The turn-in rate is very quick which can also catch you off guard -- the bike feels like it's "falling over" into the turn until you get used to the handling. <br /><br />I recommend these tires if you plan to actually hit lots of unpaved terrain. They look cool, and perform well off road, but there are some cons to be aware of when it comes to street riding.

3k miles of a good 50/50 tire
Exactly what they claim to be, nothing more nothing less. Good 50/50 tire with a short tire life.<br /><br />I ran these for about 3k miles on a 2020 moto guzzi V85tt (80hp, 60ftlb, 900lbs with me on it, 32psi front 42psi rear) <br /><br />On the street I never had any issue with these. Perfect grip no matter how far I leaned or how much power or brakes I applied.<br /><br />Offroad they were adequate. The rear drove me forward and the front was fairly planted but they had issues if they ever hit mud and the rear didn't have much side te side grip offroad.<br /><br />These would be perfect if you aren't planning on going too quickly offroad, do a lot of gravel, and want good grip on pavement but don't care about tire life. <br /><br />I also hit some snow with these and the soft compound kept very good grip, though the rear was squirrelly on ice.

none better
I just finished a 5000 mile trip from Arkansas to Ophir Pass in Colorado to spread my my buddy Marty's marticles in the Rockies(effing Covid). I used this tire combo on my CB500X; interstate, fast twisties, off road passes and back home again and I'm still not ready to pull the trigger on another 805; not because I'm going another direction tire-wise, but because it's not ready to change yet. And my experience with the Shinko is not limited to the Honda, as I'm also on my third set on my semi motard DR650; Moab, NMBDR, the Ozarks, and have yet to be tempted to change, even though I probably have 20k combined over the two bikes... And although they are classifed as a 50/50, I fell that where they really shine is on the asphalt; no howl and grip like gorilla glue in the fast corners...<br /><br />I guess you could say that I recommend them...

Great ADV tire for the money
This is my second set of these tires. I got 4000 miles from the first set which was mainly commuting with weekend offroad use. They grip better than they have any right to on asphalt, and do respectable offroad. Their only real downfall is in sand when the paddle shape means the bike wants to squirm around back and forth. I highly recommend these tires since they perform as well as tires twice their price and I can buy multiple sets for less than "name" brands.

Ran these on a KLR-650
Aggressive tread design works great on rock, sand and mud. Rear lacks as much lateral stability in mud as a K-270, but the rounded profile and sticky rubber are stable on mountain roads on pavement. Carcass is super stiff, so reduced air pressures are preferable when off pavement. Lots of bang for your buck.

Good tires, great wet road traction
So I bought these tires and installed them myself on a Rally Raid 310GS build, and proceeded to take a 6000 mile trip over a period of 12 days, with a good amount of gravel, sand and rain thrown in. Cheaper than the TKC 80s, and while I've heard that wet off-road traction suffers a little, I didn't have an issue with traction other than a 2' patch of snow melted several times and refrozen underneath across a stretch of southern Oregon NF road. Hard dirt with a thin layer of sand felt sketchy, gravel started to be really fun, and I was surprised with how well they held up during some torrential downpours accompanied by lightning under some large cumulonimbus clouds in Texas and New Mexico. I was able to maintain 75 mph without the least bit of worry while passing a few cars on the highway. Even the pea-sized hail didn't cause any slippage, but I also slowed down, because physics. They also took me up and down some fairly steep Jeep tracks found out in NF. Confidence inspiring!<br /><br />They've still got a little life, and I think I'll be comfortable putting a new rear on and continuing. I should be able to get 7,000 miles, maybe 8. Solid tires, and while I haven't scrubbed the last set of rubber mold marks off the sides, I've gotten some good leans in there, and carved up plenty of curvy mountain roads. Mud wasn't as fun, but they did the job, without me dropping the bike. I will definitely continue to buy these for my 310GS.

Great 50/50 Adventure tires
I gave run Cont. Tkc 70s, Michelin Wilds, and TKC 80s on my 2014 BMW R1200 GSA. These Shinkos are every bit the tire as the other knobbies. Quite the the Wilds and wear better than the TKC 80s. My only complaint of these tires (rear) is that the rear will slide laterally more than the others. Fish-tailing is only a problem if doing so throws you off the intended track or trail. Otherwise, these Shinkos are confidence inspiring. Grip well in wet or dry. Shinkos handle deep sand better than either other knobbie (paddle-wheel tread pattern of the rear tire). So to me, this is a no brainer. For the price and performance Shinko 804/805 tires are the best bang for the buck of any other knobbie tire I have ran.<br />Highly recommended!

Love these tires, 2nd set. Great on the wet pavement and can chuck a rock the size of a grapefruit when off roading. No vibrations and require very little weight to balance. Love the Stinko big blocks.<br /><br />I have run them on multiple bikes, from a Sportster, to a Himalayan and an XR250L. On the bigger bikes highway riding eats through the tire pretty quick but if you are mainly on backroads and dirt they last a long time.<br /><br />Honestly prefer these over the TKC80s they mimick.

I installed these tires on my 2006 V Strom just prior to riding the Mid Atlantic BDR last fall. I was pleasantly surprised by how quiet the tires sounded and handled on the pavement twisties and freeway speeds getting to the beginning and returning home to northern Ohio. The big blocks were helpful in the rocks and mud encountered on the BDR. I only have 2200 miles on them but havent noticed much wear and no cupping. I like them very much and would recommend them a 450-500 lb motorcycle.

Overall Amazing Tire
Rockin' these on a 2016 Honda Africa Twin.<br /><br />I practically sh*t a brick when I rode my AT out of the dealership service center after getting these on. Even on asphalt these are a monumental upgrade from the absolute garbage Dunlop D610/D610F that come standard from the factory on the AT. I had read some reviews that said they felt "mushy" in corners or when leaned over, absolutely not the case. Once you get used to the slight transition from the inner to the outer knob when leaning over (took me about 5 mins) these tires are incredibly confidence inspiring. They're amazing off road, I've taken them through loose gravel, sand, and rocks, and they eat it up like nothing. I can't comment on how they are in the mud yet, but I'm sure they do quite well. <br /><br />Even on the interstate these are amazing. I can rip it up to 95-100 MPH to pass someone with little to no wobble; there's definitely a bit more noticeable vibration but it's certainly not overwhelming. I should also mention that I have Barkbusters with external and internal bar weights, so that may be why I'm getting very little wobble at high speeds on asphalt. <br /><br />I can't comment on wet asphalt/rain riding yet, as monsoon season in New Mexico has just passed.<br /><br />I also cannot comment on tread life yet, but for how inexpensive these tires are I will continue to buy & love them even if I only get 3-5K miles out of them (based on other reviews I'm expecting 5K or more).<br /><br />Seriously the best knobbies on the market for the AT right now if you're looking for something that kills off and on road!

Worthy compromise
Just replaced the original Bridgestone Battle Wing that came on my super tenere. If anyone tell you these tires perform just as well on the road is because he or she does not push the tires to the limit. You will lose traction on the road. My confidence level came down some 10% on the twisties. On the other hand, my off road confidence went up 25%! <br />The tires are quiet and perform well enough on the road. They eat up lose rocks and gravel very well, giving you better breaking, better turning and significantly better climbing. So I am not going back!

Very good tire for any money
I'm always reluctant to buy 2'nd tier tires, for obvious reasons. But, the 804/805's were getting great reviews on advrider.com, so I took the plunge. Be careful about the 100/90-19 front as it is not tubeless, as advertised on Shinko's site. It is a tube type (TT). Other than that, the riding characteristics are excellent for a big block tire. There is a slight hum at speed, but it's almost impossible to hear over normal exhaust volumes. More than anything, they bring a huge smile to your face when you look at how aggressive they make your bike look. I giggle a little every time I walk the bike around and they go chunk, chunk, chunk. ;)

Made the bike fall into turns even easier than it already does. Smooth on the highway, stable in gravel. Doesn't notice rain, takes punishment from me every day on the way to/from work. Almost perfect.
I say almost perfect because on an AFRICA TWIN ADVENTURE SPORT these tires tend to walkabout or sway when cornering on the road I dont know what to call it or say other than they feel mooshy in the corners. So not perfect for that heavy beast of a bike. That being said they were amazing in sand, loose gravel and even North Carolina Clay/mud. I even did three water crossings that ranged between 12-18 inches deep and about 20-25 feet across with softball size and larger rocks in the creek beds and the tires stuck to it. I even had to turn back and make one of the crossings again and again just to be sure I wasnt mistaking their performance...yep it was as solid as I thought. I put 1,200 miles of highway and MID ATLANTIC BDR trails and I cannot see any visible tread ware. These tires are worth...well I wont say because if I do Im afraid Shinko will raise the price and well I plan to get another set so they are worth what I paid.

Great all around ADV Tire
I had a rear on an 07 GSA and a front on a 14 KTM 1190R...different bikes, but I was always impressed with these tires..didn't notice any slip on the road even though they're technically a 60/40 tire. I wouldn't go ripping around corners in the rain with these guys on, but if you want an all around good mannered dirt tire that can also handle heavy street use, these are superb. With that said, they don't have a consistent line down the middle like a heidenau or an e-07, so long highway miles will kill the edge pretty quick, just like on any knobby-like tire. I just bought another rear tire for my 16 GS and im expecting about 6,000 good miles out of it.

Shinko for the win!
Bought these tires last winter after putting 9k miles on my stock Bridgestone's. Bang for the buck is outstanding as well as reasonable. <br />Shinko gives you a tire that will last 6k miles plus. Keep in mind I replaced my stock tires at around 9800 miles and currently at 16,200 ready for my second set of Shinko's. I left a slightly lower ratying because they wore funny up front and not in the rear. Also for the reason they did not last as long overall. Still, a great tire for those not in need of Anakee 3 tire.<br /><br />As for tire grip I am fairly confident in these tires. Although they don't inspire stable riding within the first 600 miles (high tread profile) once past you find they ride wonderfully. Make sure to keep them aired up! I have ridden in dirt, sand, rain and did not have any issues. <br /> The tire gripped well and digs deep finding plenty of grip. When in the rain I rode in the early rain to pouring down several inches. Even with cautious riding I never had a skip or slip. Very impressed. <br /><br />Overall, don't be fooled by the lower price tag. Shinko 804/805's deliver the goods. Purchasing my second set as I type. <br /><br />PS word of caution when scrubbing they are a bit oily.<br />I ride 12k miles a year and commute daily.

Best Tire I've Run on the DR650!
The verdict is still out on longevity I rode this tire through 2,000 miles of the Trans America Trail and 1000 miles of pavement and at 3000 they still look like they are ready for more. This is the 3rd rear 805 I've used on the DR650 I just swap a newer one out for events and I have to say I am VERY impressed it is a great street tire and a great dirt tire. I've ridden it through mud, gravel, rocks, Baja sand, silt, and they are grippy. In the sand not as good as a Michelin T63 which I have ran for comparison but its good enough. I've run 1 804 front on the DR650 and I didn't like it at first because it's not the best gripping tire but when it starts to slide it is predictable and can be controlled fairly easily. In sand the 804 is ok not as good as the T63. The best thing about the Shinko 805 is they wear very well. Even after they are worn down quite a bit the knobs on the side of the center block still have lots of bite. I gave a 4 for treadlife because I haven't run these down all the way yet, so far its 3,000 miles and still good. Cheap and highly recommended :)

Shakes like a wet raccoon.
Disappointed. I put a pair of these on my brand new '23 V-Strom 800DE and the bike developed a bad head shake/handle bar shimmy at various speeds. I spent the 500 miles going through the bike. I checked all bearings, chain tension, wheel/fork alignment, torque spec/sequence and could find nothing wrong with the bike. <br /><br />I then reinstalled the worn OEM front tire and all my problems went away. It once again rode like a brand new bike. Assuming that I had a bad tire, I ordered another Shinko 804, carefully balanced it and installed it on my V-Strom. I followed the factory service manual. Everything was torqued to spec in proper sequence. My problems returned. <br /><br />Either my bike "doesn't like" these tires or I am being sold defective tires. I have been riding on Shinko 804/805's for almost 10 years and never had a problem. <br /><br />Regardless, I will not buy another Shinko 804/805.

Great tires regardless of price
When I bought my 2012 Triumph Tiger 800XC as a used motorcycle it came with Heidenau K60 Scouts. I did not think that they were particularly good at anything. I did not have confidence on gravel roads, no feel in the front end, they were noisy, the center tread on the rear tire squared off making cornering smoothly difficult. I had used the Shinko 705's on a BMW R1200GSA and really liked how they felt and gripped along with excellent wear. I wanted something a bit more aggressive tread pattern wise so I gave the 804/805 combo a try on the Tiger. First impressions were that the front end steered a bit slower but I soon got used to it. There is a very stable feeling when cornering. The lack of tread noise really surprised me and they roll very smoothly. Tread wear in 2000 kms is negligible. I have managed to get in a few hundred kms of dirt road riding, nothing too gnarly and they work great at that as well. Great value for money.

Impressed with durability
I bought these for some CDT/TAT riding throughout Colorado last year. Really impressed with the grip off road (fire roads, baby-head boulders, talus) though it helps to drop the pressures. What is really impressive is how grippy they still are on pavement. Mind you not the same sort of knee-dragging grip you get from 100% road tires, but enough to get your boot to scrape in the tight stuff at speed. Confidence inspiring even two-up. I kept them on after my Colorado ride and I'm still running them for commuting and weekend rides. I have about 6000 miles on them so far and expect at least another 2500 miles. Pavement is starting to square-off the rear and the front is beginning to cup slightly, but otherwise no issues.

not a bad tire for the money<br />This is in a F800gsa 17/21 tire size matters.<br />I can testify on the 805 (rear) as I just slapped the front one in and haven't used it yet.<br />I used this in some rocks and mud at the touratech rally in PA, it grips well, the first day it rained and I had all the confidence and I wasn't easy on the tire or the bike, however, sometimes you can feel the tire running sideways being the thread is like a paddle, a small feedback that a little correction with the throttle takes care of.<br />On the highway the tire is quite which is the key difference.<br />The thread is not deep which is why I gave it 4?? I think it can have some serious issues in sand or deep mud, but that's all power management.<br />For the price, it's a bargain <br />I haven't taken it is some good twisties with speed to comment on that

Great tires, great price
Very satisfied so far. They did great in the dirt and smoother than I thought on the street. Have not been out in the wet yet, so don't know how they will do.

Good tires, bad rear tire life.
Very good tire for bad road conditions. Had those tires through British Columbia and muddy Alaska all the way up Dulton Highway. Front tire lasted over 10,000 miles, rear under 4,000mi.

These are beta tires I have had on my 1290SAR. They do fine in the road inspiring confidence, but are great on gravel and two track. The only reason they don't get 5 stars is I don't think I will get more than 3k miles out of the rear.

Really like these tires on my KTM 1190r. For the price they do everything pretty ok. Think I might try a different tire after having 2 rear tires of these and having them on my other adv bike. They just don't seem to last very long with my riding style (the throttle seems to twist really hard on gravel for some reason lol). They do mount up easy by hand.

So far, so good. Replaced my Michelin road 6's with these. Much louder and rougher as you would expect. Too soon to comment on wear.

Africa Twin Enduro!!
These tires turned my 21 africa twin into a full on steroid injecting monster dirtbike. Thing rips in deep sand and hooks up in any terrain wet or dry! Cannot speak on tread longevity (yet). But I allready know I will be coming back to these tires. TLDR: if you do alot of offroad get these tires specifically!

These tires handled the dirt and mud really well. Phenomenally better than my adventure tires that came with my motorcycle. I live on a dirt road so when it rains it's a muddy mess with these tires I'm able to navigate it and get to my driveway without a problem even the four-wheel drive trucks have trouble getting here.<br />However I was really surprised of how much grip they had on the asphalt I was not expecting it and they handled the rain perfectly going back and forth to work on asphalt. They're in back again

Amazing Value Tire
I installed and balanced these tires myself and they surprisingly balanced really well. I have zero complaints about the tires considering the price I paid to have them shipped to my house was about $200 for both front and rear. The performance of these on road and off road have easily surpassed my expectations given the cost. I was needing something to just get me through winter and I feel they'll have zero issues doing that. So far I have about 500 miles on them which is split 60% street and 40% offroad. Sadly I have done more commuting recently because my truck is needing a starter, so I have ridden almost exclusively on my bike. <br /><br />My only complaint about these tires is that the front seems to be slightly out of round. There is one spot where the tire appears as though it has a deformity and makes it appear as though the rim is slightly bent, however, I have trued the wheel and it's perfect. I only feel the bump around 30 to 40 mph and isn't noticeable above or below that. Road noise is subtle, grip is very acceptable on and offroad, and they appear as though I'll get about 2000 to 3000 miles out of the rear. Given the cost of the tire, I can easily purchase 3 of them and get more miles than any other knobby offroad tire for the price.

Great gravel tire
These are my favorite tires and here's why. I had been using shinko 705's and absolutely hated going anywhere but asphalt. I hated the front tire hunting so I looked into some decent knobbies that wouldn't cost a fortune. This is where I landed. This is an excellent front and rear tire combo, you can hit the twists pretty darn hard and not feel any slip. Not only that, I've taken my vstrom 650 through loose and packed gravel with loose and tight dirt trails and had zero issues out of the front or rear, no more front tire hunting! My rear tire is getting fairly close to need replacing granted I am hard on the throttle, this is at 6 thousand miles. Front on the other hand has way more life left. Will buy again!

804 / 805 Big Block
Great traction. But seems to be wearing quickly. Use them about 70/30. On a 400 mile BDR trip now and I can see the wear. Price was good. For the off-road traction, I didn?t expect great wear. They look boss too.

Good but loud
I currently have about 6500 miles on my Shinko Big Blocks on a Triumph Tiger 800. I would estimate that I'm at about 50% wear on the back tire. The tires perform well on road with just a little flex under hard acceleration or cornering. I don't ride a lot in rain, but when I have been caught they seem to have adequate traction in the wet. Off pavement performance is great. The only complaint is that after break in they are very loud on the highway. Sounds like a big 4WD pickup going down the road.

I ride a 08 1200 GSA with 110k miles on it. Have had Woodys wheels (18/21) for 65k and the 804/805 setup works great, not only for the dirt but also on the street. Run them at the recommended (sidewall) pressure and youll be in great shape!

GET IT !
I just hope theyll keep making these tires forever !<br />Super affordable, looks amazing, near superb handling on the street and very very good on dirt. But the best part is its longevity, these tires have an unbelievably long thread life. I usually get 5,000 to 7,000 miles from the rear and slightly more from the front.<br />I had them on my ( previous bike ) Yamaha Super Tenere, and now on my Honda Africa Twin. I use my bike for daily commute, a lot of canyon riding, dirt rides and fully loaded long distance adventure trips.<br />The only downside is the rear tire sometimes like to slide sideways ( since the straight line pattern on the blocks ) but setting your traction control to the proper level turns this issue to a fun ( and safe ) time on the trails. ( You will only encounter this issue at a very fast and aggressive off road riding ) . It also has a slight issue with painted surfaces when the road is wet ( like crosswalks ), but what tire doesn't ?

Great tire and a great value!!
Overall, I absolutely love everything about this tire other than the wear. I ride a '13 Triumph Tiger 800 and originally I had Pirelli Scorpion 90/10 tire on it. I was looking for a little more off-road manners, even though the Scorpions did surprisingly well, they did lack in deeper gravel and mud. The Shinko's are amazingly quiet, I run hard, very hard on the asphalt, which leads to the only complaint I have, the wear. However, I realize that 95% aren't going to be running 85-100MPH to get to the trails, but, I do. They corner well, they're decent on wet asphalt, no, you can't push them to the edge cornering, but, that's OK. When I get to the dirt, I typically drop the tire pressure, usually 10 pounds to start, and the Shinko's really do well. I have an Oasser P1 cordless inflator that gets my pressures right back up when it's time to head home. I have about 2k miles on them and I'll probably get maybe 3k out of them, and I'm guessing most of that is related to friction at higher speeds. It really is good "bang for the buck" and it's a good 40/60 Street/Dirt. I'll probably pick up another set of wheels so I can run these and the Scorpions. On a sidenote, I just threw on a Shinko on one of my Harley's, so, I'm curious to see how they do on there....

Not as grippy on wet roads as TKC-80
Low on mileage yet, looking for a replacement for the TKC-80 on the front of my KTM 1090R. the tkc 80 wears uneven shortening the lifespan. will see if this one wears better. Haven't had it off road yet. Long ride in 50 deg rain this weekend and the front did not feel planted on the wet roads. any painted lines or manhole covers and it is really sketchy. will add to review after more mileage.

Good Cheap Tire
BMW F800gs<br />I'm a new rider (10 months) and purchased these because, visually, they absolutely fit the personality of the bike. (And they're really cheap) On road, they grip very well, for a knobby. Off road, they love forest service roads. They've worked well with the little bit of off roading I've done with them. (About 100 miles). <br /><br />The front has worn well, the rear might last until 5,000-5,500 miles. I'm at 3,500, right now. <br />I have a very flexible wrist. <br /><br />One complaint with them is I don't dare go above 90mph. At around 85, the front end starts to obtain some head shake. Under hard acceleration, (passing from 70-80) once I get close to 90, I am forced to ease off the throttle. My bar ends, wobble about 4". Very concerning. Not scary, even for a beginner, but there is no way I will take these tires to triple digits. I also can obtain this head shake while driving 80mph near large vehicles. To be transparent, the first set of tires, Anakee 2's had a bit of head shake but not near as much as the Shinko's. The F800gs just lacks a bit of weight up front, partly because of the fuel tank being underneath the seat. <br /><br />Second complaint, around 30-50mph, they are very choppy. By this I mean, sound a vowel out loud in your helmet, and the tone is very choppy. They seem to not be very round. Once above 50, that goes away. Also, there is a bit of tire roar. I don't mind that a bit, because I like the roar of mud tires and I normally wear earplugs. <br />Will I buy again? I think so. Maybe I'll luck up and obtain a truer tire from the factory. For now, I think I'll try the Shinko 705's and test my newly acquired skills to a further extent in the N. GA mountians.

So far so good
Great tire for the buy! We mounted these on the wife's G650GS and other than a vibration at about 60mph it's a great all around tire. Does awesome off road and once worn in the road manners are unsurpassed for a big block tire. I will be putting a set in my KLR650 when the time comes

For the price I couldn't have been happier. Used them on a 3,000 mile trip, about 80% paved with the rest on gravel, mud, sand, Jeep trail in Colorado. Really surprised about the wet grip on pavement! I popped the clutch at about 20 mph on fresh wet pavement and the front wheel came of the ground. I was not expecting that. The trip was a solo trip with a small load on my BMW R1200GSA

Great all-around tire for big bikes
I put a set of these on my F800 GSA and have been very pleased overall.<br /><br />They are very smooth and predictable on the street at 38psi. Fully loaded with gear and speeds of up to 85mph, they were smooth as butter all day.<br /><br />These work well off-road also. Tested on gravel, sand, loose rock and hard/loose dirt. Worked well in all of the above even at steep inclines running around 30psi. Only downside is the rear doesnt grip great laterally because of the tread pattern. Usually this is only an issue in off-camber situations, but I found it bearable.<br /><br />I have been looking for a tire that works well in all-around situations, and this is about as close as I have come so far, and I have tested quite a few. Unbeatable for the price.
