Don't waste your time or money
At first I liked this thing. I thought it had a beefy build, and just the right sensitivity for the alarm to start going off if the bike was disturbed.<br />Come to find out, they cut through my cable lock, disc brake, and tore apart the xena in just a couple short minutes! Like butter this little alarm was cut off, cut open, and disabled by destroying the little unit inside. Seriously disappointed, now i'm out a bike partially thanks to Xena and their overpriced hoopla.
Cheap
I used to have an ABUS disc lock and after a year and a half of use and abuse (I park on the streets of NYC all year) it bit the dust. I like it, but since it broke, I thought I would try a new brand in hopes it would last longer. I was sorely mistaken. <br /><br />This Xena unit has two major issues.<br />Firstly, the key is really bad. Built to a budget is how I would put it. Sometimes the key just doesn't turn (dirt?) when I am trying to unlock it before the alarm goes off.<br />Secondly, the alarm sensor is easily duped. Any water, ANY, gets on the alarm and the alarm will just go off continually, even if it is "disarmed." It has gotten worse and worse to the point that I have taken the battery out because it just goes off while it's sitting on the desk next to me. It'll still work as a disc lock, but no more alarm. <br /><br />If you want an alarm on your disc brake I would strongly advise against Xena. I'm going back to the German's ABUS.
Works Well, but Cumbersome
I have purchased several Xena disk alarms over the last eight years. This new version is nice, but more difficult than past models to lock. Past models took a 1/4 turn of the key to lock / unlock, but this new version takes a 1/2 turn. If I cock my hand and get ready, it is doable, but if I forget to rotate my hand 1/2 turn the other direction before starting, then I do not have enough twist left in my wrist and I need to let go, untwist my wrist, then continue with the unlocking turn. During this time, the alarms goes off like a maniac and I go deaf. I liked the 1/4 turn better.
Easy to use, hefty, and loud
It installs easily. The "warning" beeps clearly let you know when it is armed or when it is about to go alarm. Definitely wear hearing protection if you are going to experiment with it. It was not clear to me in the description and this is my first disk alarm so I did not know it is intended for the front disk. I assumed it was for the rear. Knowing that, I probably could have used a slightly smaller one. Regardless, I am pleased. I did not rate durability because I have just bought it but it seems like it is built to last.
Great Lock, Finicky Alarm
The alarm itself is great. It's made of heavy duty metal. I've had my lock for a while and there are scuff marks from use plus wear and tear. However the metal isn't displaced from me being putting it in a mail box and retrieving it when I returned home. Also, it hasn't rusted (even around the scuffs). I've had the alarm since February 2014.<br />The alarm is loud. 120 dB is loud, not enough to burst eardrums, but enough to make you want to figure out how to make it stop or get away from it. It works fairly well when the IR line is actually broken. There is a sensor in the alarm itself that reads and arms when the IR line is broken (by the brake rotor) and you lock the lock with a key. The problem with this alarm is that if you have a gap in your rotors (supersport brakes), it might not arm the alarm properly. It'll still lock though.<br />I can't speak for other bikes, but I know that for the front brake rotor of a 2008-2015 R6, the alarm will NOT arm. So that was just another function that was advertised but I was unable to utilize it. Double check what other people are saying about the models or you're going to have a hard time trying to figure out how to arm it and break the IR beam to arm the alarm. The IR beam and sensor is about 1.5 cm away from the locking shaft.<br />You CAN (if you're really wanting to make it work) stick a piece of paper in the locking slot, break the beam that way, and force the alarm to arm. However, if the paper falls out in the middle of the night, all your neighbors are going to hate you.
Alarm inconsistent but the overall lock works
I bought this lock because of the alarm feature and the alarm works when it wants to. The instructions were unclear on how to arm and unarm the alarm of the lock, also the battery was a pain to install the first time. When I'm riding, the lock is in the tail of my bike and about a week ago from today (9-1-14) the alarm has been slowly going bad. It goes off when it's in my rear seat, and the actual alarm itself isn't as loud. The good news is that it's still a lock and it's hard to pick so the primary function is still there. However, if your buying this because of the added alarm feature, skip this product.
Good lock for the money...
After reading other reviews, I was a little worried when I purchased this, but the lock worked great. You do have to be ready when you take the lock off of the bike, since you only have a little time before setting off the alarm. If you follow the instructions, the lock works great... The sound is probably not as loud as I would like, but it is enough for people to know that someone is messing with the bike. I put the lock back in the packaging when I do not us it and I have not had any issues with it going off in my saddle bag.
Favorite new gadget
I live in St. Kitts, in the Caribbean. It's mostly ghetto here and I own one of like 3 CBR's on the island. So everywhere I go, I get shifty eyes and sketchy characters walking up and checking out the bike. With this lock, I sleep so much better at night. Loud as heck alarm, if you're close by; enough to scare off anyone trying to mess with your bike. Sexy finish, quality parts, takes half a second to install and sneaks into my tiny storage space under the back seat (with undertail exhaust that eliminates all the space back there) Highly recommend to all my friends. It seemed a little pricey at first, but then I thought that this would last me for years and years. Totally worth it in my mind.
worth investing in to protect your bike
It?s mobile but still heavy duty enough to hopefully deter thief?s from wanting to take a shot at my bike, plus is has a fairly loud alarm. I do wish the alarm sounded longer than it does but it?s audible enough to hopefully deter thieves. Takes some getting use to unlocking it in time before the alarm sets off.
Great but pricey
This is my second one, I accidentally lost the first one. Arie bought it because it's a great product, but it's very pricey. Built to last though.
Does what its supposed to do.
I have been fortunate enough where i haven't had hear it go off. But it does the somewhat job of protecting my bike and keeping me somewhat at ease. Ultimately, you need multiple layers of security, this being one of them. its simple, feels like it's made of high quality material, and it fits. I've tested it myself a few times and yes, a good nudge will set off a warning that will turn into an ear-piercing siren.<br /><br />It fit easily in my storage compartment and has been good for a few weeks now.
Xena XX15 Disc Lock with Alarm
Xena XX15 Disc Lock with Alarm, live in Las Vegas lots of crime unit is lightweight small easy to carry extremely loud, which is one of the best defenses to have connects over Wi-Fi and useful with my phone are use it with a cord which is yellow which goes up to my handlebars so I don't forget to drive off with it on some people have said that this unit goes off from excessive sunlight. As of now I have yet to see that every time it goes off is somebody touching it very sensitive which I like extremely happy with this product so far.
So far so good
Have only used the lock a couple times. Easy enough to get on and off.
Good lock and alarm
Installing the battery was a painful experience. Per the instructions, you have 20 seconds to install it before the alarm sounds. Mine sounded immediately and every time I would just about have the thing screwed back, it would go off again.<br /><br />Now that it's set up, it works perfectly and you quickly get used to removing it quickly to avoid the alarm. It is very loud when it goes off and definitely do its job. Won't deter seasoned thieves but it will let you know someone's messing with your bike if your within earshot.
Strong
Works the opposite of original. Big and strong. Hard to carry in your pocket.
4/5 craftsmanship
It's sturdy and reliable overall, my only complaint is that it is too sensitive and goes off at the slightest nudge of the bike.
Does the Job and works on the "Bike" !
It seems to be made well, but needed to go out and "Purchase" a "Battery" to get it to work! ! ! The "Battery" it came with was completely "Dead" when this product arrived! ! ! Then to Top it off, it takes an uncommon Battery, so I had to shop around to fine one and make a special trip to purchase it! ! ! For the "Amount" of money I spent on that Lock, I would have a difficult time trying to tell someone I know to purchase it !
Not worth 119$
Its very strong but I would say its ok lock
Everything you could want out of a disc break lock/alarm
The company was very easy to deal with prompt and courteous. the device is easy to use and I've had no issues with it, so far it's worked flawlessly
A little tough to setup, but really makes you feel safe!
Alarm went off a couple times when setting it up which was quite unpleasant but once you have the battery in and it on your bike you feel really good.<br /><br />I have this on a 2005 Yamaha Roadstar Warrior.
Excellent product and quality.
Excellent product, very loud up close enough to scare everyone standing next to it. The metal quality is awesome and is easy to cary everywhere.
Fragile
The plastic guts to these are extremely fragile and difficult to replace (not available from the manufacturer). I own two of these lovely metal paperweights with broken plastic tabs that render the things useless. Avoid.
could be a little louder, but it works great, it has been working perfectly for me.<br />You cannot open a bag without setting it off.
Battery installation is a pain. Wearing earplugs is a good idea because if you're not quick enough while installing it, the alarm will sound. Well made, solid, worth the money spent for some peace of mind.
So far, working as advertised.
It's better to have a security device than not. I would recommend this product to anyone who does not have one.
A quality product.
Fit right on my 2015 Street Glide, alarm is super loud !
love this item. exactly what was represented.
Solidly built and loud!!
solid wheel lock
I think this is a great lock. However, the alarm "never" worked period! It is a solid-heavy duty lock and I would trust it not to be removed from my bike without my knowledge. But the extremely 120db loud never (even once) worked. It doesn't fit on the back wheel brake rotor..bummer. And I will paint it a bright color as not to drive away with it still attached. In all, I'm glad to have a dependable wheel lock!
thumbs up here ,very nice product fit is perfect.
