Great Bar but CHEAP hardware
Everything about the bar itself is top notch, including the packaging. The mounting bolts are another story. <br /><br />The heads are smaller than the stock bolts and don't fully cover the Bosses on the sissy bar. As a result when you try to torque the bolts they spin on the boss and chew off the paint.<br /><br /> Do yourself a favor, go to Home Depot and buy two stainless 2" long allen cap scews and two that are 2 1/2" inches long. The thread size is 5/16-18. Also a pack of stainless washers (the washers OD is the exact size as the boss on the sissy bar).<br /><br />The torque spec on the instructions is questionable. It calls for 18 ft lbs. Normal torque for that bolt is 11 ft lbs. and Harley calls out 8-13 ft lbs. I would be careful not to damage the fender or strut. I am going to stick with 13 ft lbs.<br /><br />Bottom line is a top notch sissy bar that I would gladly pay extra for to have decent mounting hardware.
Well-made and easy to install
Title says it all, really - I had initially bought a cheaper (and inferior) sissy bar from a certain auction website and the difference between that and the Burly version was like arctic night and tropical day.<br /><br />Clean welds, simple to install and just the right dimensions. I'm using it solely for luggage, not a passenger, so I can't speak to the comfort level, but I'm pretty damned happy with the purchase.<br /><br />One minor point - the longer bolts supplied with this use an imperial, not metric, allen wrench. Took me a little digging to find one of those in my toolbox.
Quality is amazing
I was debating between this sissy bar and the one that HD sells , but decided to go with this one since the bottom portion that attaches to the bike was slimmer and cleaner than the HD one. Its definitely not a quick release type of sissy bar and is kind of a pain in the butt to install.<br /><br />Tips: Make sure all bolts are in before tightening. If you insert one bolt at a time and tighten them, you won't be able to align it correctly to get the other bolts in. w
Best Purchase Ever
I bought this because I took a passenger on a four hour ride on the back of my sportster and by the end of it, she was not a happy camper. After purchasing this, no complaints from passengers. They're actually comfortable to text and snap pictures while riding.<br /><br />I also load my guitar, stool and bookbag for gigs I play. Also have loaded this bad boy up with camping gear for a weekend retreat with my MC. No scratches or anything and it's just great for those times you have big items you need to transport.<br /><br />*Note: Make sure passenger pads are screwed in tight. Lost one but no biggie!<br /><br />Get this... It will change your life!!! (Also add on some cool points!)<br /><br />**I bought this for my iron 883 not the 80 cx500.
Awesome, simple sissy bar
This sissy bar is awesome, I put it on my 72 and it looks and functions great. I have custom made seats so I sent in the pad it came with in to get it stitched up with real leather to match. I feel like if you know how to weld it wouldn't be too hard to replicate, that's the only reason the bang for your buck isn't rated all the way up. Otherwise I love this thing.
Great Product
The only question that you need to ask yourself is "Why haven't you got this yet and what size do you want!?!?"<br /><br />The truth, you should have already purchased it, and you want to get the bigger, taller one! Do it!!! Don't ask Lemy, or your wife. If you don't have enough money, go barrow some, get some from a ho-bow, or get a tip jar and tell jokes. This is a MUST buy for EVERYONE!
Function meets Style.
Bought it for the style aspect originally but after having it on the bike, if I ever had to ride 2 up its perfect.<br /><br />Installation is simple, but pay attention to the hardware. There are bolts for the front and back mounting positions. (Just read the directions, I didnt so it took longer.<br /><br />The only thing I would definitely say is to watch out for the orientation of the washers on the inside of the fender. They go on a certain way and you will have to reuse them.
Looks and works great on my 2016 Roadster. Warning on Installation!
I bought this for my 2016 Roadster. It does fit well and looks good. If you are installing this sissy bar on a 2016 Roadster you will need 2 extra bolt nuts, which was not included in the mounting hardware. Also the 2016 Roadster's bullet lights uses two mounting ports which the sissy bar will use one so you have to consider that. Overall, I made it work and it looks good<br />and functions well.
Sissy bar
Came in a day early, well packaged and looked great on my iron 1200 10/10
I have it on 2017 HD sportster 883 It was very easy to put it on
Looks rad, feels rad.
Hey everyone, just wanted to do a quick review of the Burly Tall Sissy Bar that I got for my 2013 Harley Sportster Seventy-Two. I have yet to ride with a passenger with it because I have yet to pick up a back seat or pillion like I plan on doing soon but I really like the way it looks so far with just the bar. I have gotten a couple compliments that it really brings the bike together which made me feel good with my purchase. Very easy to install by yourself, if you can screw in a lightbulb than you can do this yourself and it is pretty sturdy. Highly recommend it.
Look comfort n styles
Its Chang my bikes look great and its very comfortable for my partner..
Great Sissy Bar
Easy to install and looks great on my 2017 Iron 883. I installed a sissy bar bag and now I have room to put all my stuff.
it is burly
Fast and easy install.<br />Looks great on my 2017 sporty.<br />The cushion doesn't match my seats in darkness, so i never put it on but it looks great without it. Also easier to pack gear on without the cushion in the way.<br /><br />Got lots of compliments on my bike the day after installed.<br /><br />yeah it's a little pricey, but it's a lot burly.
Bar is great as expected, but like a prior review said, better hardware would be nicer.
Great!
The look is a lot more sleek then a removable sissy bar, YOU HAVE TO WANT THE SISSY BAR AT ALL TIMES!<br /><br />To install you should/need to put permanent glue (specific for auto parts) that makes removal very hard. It's also what gives you the peace of mind it won't just fall off lol. So if you want to be able to take on and off get something else.<br /><br />For those who want it the 20inch is sexy with or without the rest pad, quality is great. and it is super easy to install. Great buy!
It is.. bar none, perfect.
This sissy bar fits great on my Harley 883. I primarily purchased it for use as a cargo carrier, for lightweight camp gear, so as to take to various state and national parks. For that purpose it has thus far served well - ive carried my tent (2 person), 2 liter hydration bladder, a host of small equipment items, food, backpacking stove & fuel, and even a small machete. Properly secured, the items ride well and are hardly noticeable. Definitely my greatest, most useful addition to the bike to date. Opportunities for adventure are boundless. Highly, HIGHLY recommend.
Good product but had some issues
The sissy bar looks good on my 2017 forty-eight. It was super easy to install. Looks good with or without the pad. Overall the sissy bar is super solid and I would trust it to hold a passenger. I did however have an issue with the quality of the paint on the one I received. There is heavy pair or rust under the paint causing a rough, bumpy patch. Unfortunately I didn't notice until I already installed it so I cannot return it.
Simple instal
I have no problem with this sissy bar, the wife and I had it on in 15 minutes. The wife is very happy with not feeling like she is going to slide off the back.
Your girl will thank you....
Bought this bar so my girl would be a little more comfortable on long rides. Install was pretty simple. I did have to get some longer bolts to go threw my saddle bag supports. long and short of it's a 3 beer job at max.<br />Just a heads up guys she will become a 3ed degree master or bungee strap fu to bring more unnecessary stuff with. you've been warned
Best Sissy Bar for Sportsters
I was looking for a sissy bar like this for forever. The HD ones are nice, but this one is superior in my opinion. I'm not a fan of the super short bars as they don't provide back support for my girlfriend and it's tough to strap much to them.<br /><br />This bar is in the sweet spot - not overly tall but right in the middle (see pic). I use this to strap bags/gas/beer to my sportster 48. The sissy bar looks good without the pad too which is a plus as I take the pad off when I'm doing solo rides.<br /><br />One thing to note is that I have mid mounts and a pretty aggressive riding position. With my gf on the back, she says her butt ends up against the bars under the pad rather than the pad (I'm leaned forward pretty far so she ends up leaning forward). This isn't a fault with the product but wanted to point out with my riding position and seat setup.<br /><br />I have strapped luggage to the bars and had zero scratching or scraping - very high quality material. Buy this sissy bar if you want high quality.
Function and Form
I bought this for my sportster 48. I wanted a sissy bar for strapping gear to and also for a passenger. I wasn't sure what the passenger would say but they loved it. The pad looks small so it doesn't take away from looks but where it sits in your back is perfect. The bar is sturdy as well and it is easy to strap gear to it. Definitely would recommend this to anyone looking for a sleek functional sissy bar.
I would definitely buy again!
Great product that looks sleek and holds the wife well!
Doesn't get better than this!
I looked for a while at the various sissy bars for my 2006 XLC and this one kept coming back. I liked the old school chopper type of look it had to it. Don't worry it doesn't go forever into the sky. I ordered and had it crazy fast. two days, I put it on the day I got it. It took 35 minutes to install but only because one of the stock torx bolts stripped while attempting to remove. The bar went on supper fast after the stock hardware issue. Directions were easy to follow, there's a little part in there about relocating the stock washers other than that it's an easy job. I love the look it gives the bike, old lady says it's fairly comfy for the 3 hours she rode with it. For the price, quality, durability, and ease of install you can't give this bar anything but 5 stars. Very sturdy, big fan of the new hex head bolts that came with the bar, see above as to why I hate torx heads. I would recommend to anyone that is looking, thinking about, or desires. It's practical, very useful, and adds some excellent throwback style that you think you might be lacking or you didn't know you always wanted.
Bitchin'!
Glad I purchased the Burly tall sissy bar. Looks great, installed easily and gives my lady a nice angle to feel more comfortable and confident as a passenger.<br /><br />Next purchase... Burly brand bars
Straight forward kids.
Its clean, minimal, does the job. I'm a pretty new rider and am just now comfortable enough to have the lady on the back. I have that Rough Crafts diamond stitch solo saddle with the passenger pad. That along with this sissy bar are more than comfortable enough for doing errands around the city she says. She feels way more secure with this sissy bar for her to lean against then with nothing there. The pad on it is small and its not the most comfortable for long hauls, but overall for her its more than adequate.<br />Also, strapping my medium rucksack to it is super easy.
Simple and sexy!
This is pretty strait forward friends. Easy four bolt mounting, very sturdy, and pretty comfortable. I went with this sissy bar because of its simplicity. I didn't like the looks, price and bulkiness of the ones Harley sold and couldn't really find anything in the price range I wanted. Uhhh...plus its made in Merica! 'Nuff said!
Looks good and does the job
Bought this for my forty eight. I wanted it for both style and function for two up riding. It is nice and clean, much better than the overpriced HD sissy bar. Easy to install and does the job. I always get asked about it, so they did something right.
Burly Tall Sissy Bar
Finally had time to install this on my Iron 883. Very well finished, and fit my bike perfectly. Looks great, too. Well worth the investment!
High quality sissy bar.
Good bare bones sissy bar. No quick detach or lugged wrap option but it gets the job done.
Best looking and fits perfect
Im not a big fan of sissy bars but is more comfortable for your passenger. This is in my opinion is one of the best looking and fits perfect. Highly recommend.
Perfect Fit and Look
Perfect fit and look.... Love it!
Easy to follow instructions. Easy to install. Looks great.
Great stylish addition to any Sportster. Highly recommend it. Easy installation
Perfect exactly what I needed to strap my dog carrier on my bike.
Excellent hassle free sissy bar
Great sissy bar. This particular one fits perfect for someone looking to bridge the gap between rigid mount and detachable. I tried installing rigid side plates, none of hardware worked, and did not make solid contact. The detachable side plates concerned me due to ease of removal from thieves. These are easy to install, sturdy enough carry your pack and passenger, looks great, what?s not to like?
Solid/ Built too last! Easy install! She actually rides with me now 😂
Looks great. Bad hardware.
Looks great and feels sturdy however I was a little disappointed that all 4 bolts stripped before I could get them to the recommended 18ft/lbs of torque. At first I thought maybe it was user error but I double checked my torque wrench and that wasn?t the issue. From there I thought maybe it was just one bad bolt but one after another, each bolt stripped out before I could get it to the 18ft/lbs.
You guys rock! Shipped in timely manner. All parts in box and looking awesome on bike. Burly Brand sissy bar looks old school. Love it
Adds a lot of style!
Great looking sissy bar, maybe the best looking in the market in my opinion. Instructions were very straightforward and installation took a quick 15 minutes and really set off the look of my bike.
Easy install, looks badass.
The sissy bar looked amazing on my 2019 48, love the look.
sissy bar review
Had this for about 3 years give or take. chrome is holding up well, No cracks No Chips in Chrome. I live in Texas and bike has seen the sun a lot. strapped bags and gone hundreds of miles. Looks good and holds up to my needs.
LOVE IT!
Bought this sissy bar about 6 months or so ago, it was super easy to install. I use it to strap a backpack and tool bag to and it holds everything perfectly. I haven't had any problems with it, it's good quality. Definitely worth the money!
Burly sissy bar
Pretty straight forward and easy install! Love the look and pad that comes with it. I got the all black look and it goes great with my bike
Looks good and adds utility.
This looks totally sweet on my Forty-Eight Special. I have it with a Drag Specialties Predator extended reach seat and the sissy bar helps the bike look more balanced to the eye. I leave off the back pad as it is a solo seat. Also now I can strap a bag to the back which was impossible before. My bike gets complimented all the time, and not just by old men; one time a 10 year-old said he liked it, and then there was a middle aged woman.<br /><br />Install is easy in theory but in reality was harder than it should have been. I wish they provided all of the hardware required. I had to reuse the nuts that were on already on the bike and they since they were not in the best shape it was a battle to get them on the threads and torque them correctly when you're working in such a tight spot under the fender. How expensive would it have been for them to include a few nuts of the proper size and rating?
Install was pretty straightforward, simple. Good quality would have like a option for taller bar but still happy over all will buy burley again
Great for Camping, Long trips, and back rest for your lady!
I bought this for my Iron883. <br />It has definitely improved my overall look of my bike, plus having the ability to carry more and provide a back rest comfort.
Looks great, Well made, shipped fast ,and looks old school good with the Mustang Duke seat on my Sporty
Well made, fit exactly and arrived quickly. I am satisfied.
2014 1200 Custom: Looks Great!
Super easy install, looks great, super durable. My wife loves it for when we go on rides. I love being able to strap a backpack to it instead of wearing one.
Good looking Sissybar
This is the best of all the sissybar I have had on my sportster 48 I just love the look of it.Solid built too.It makes my Sportster 48/1200 look good.
7" more awesome than the shorty
It's really pretty good. Straightforward, classy, functional, well-made. It gets the job done. The lower bars are really good for bungies at different angles. This replaced the burly shorty, because the shorty was too short and didn't offer enough support for packing on long-rides. The back pad is pretty small, I don't run it, but used the bracket area for mounting my tag and light. Downside is that this sucker is too expensive, but on the other hand it's the best option around.
High quality bar that looks awesome on my 2013 Sportster XL1200C. Easy to install with my bike on the kick stand. I like that there are no side plates to deal with as I plan on leaving the bar on all the time. I wish the pad was bigger, it’s pretty small at about 6”x3”. I will be replacing it with something bigger for the old lady’s comfort.
Burly sissy bar
One of the better sissy bars you can get. Very stylish and looks great. My only gripes is that my girl says the pillow sits very low and the pillow is kinda small. And the install can be tricky. But it is a very nice backrest although it is a little pricey for what it is
Love it!!!! It looks nice and clean on my bike.
Perfection!
Purchased this sissy bar for my 2013 Superlow. The design is fantastic, looks like it came from the factory.
it does exactly what I needed it to do.
It's a sissy bar. It doesn't do much, but it does what it's supposed to do perfectly. I needed something to hold a bag during my daily commute, and this does it perfectly while looking a million times better than saddle bags. It's a little pricey, but you get what you pay for. It's very well constructed, and strong. The install was super easy, other than getting to the bolts inside the fender, but that's just part of the bike itself. I would definitely purchase this again.
Good sissy bar
The sissy bar looks amazing. The install was very easy. The pad is definitely small, which I like. The only complaint i have is the tubing is a little on the small side. I wish they would have made it just a bit beefier. Overall, great sissy bar, even if it is expensive.
Looks better than Harley sissy bars
This fit my Harley 2017 iron 883 sportster no problem. It was about medium difficulty to install but came with all parts and stickers in addition. I would recommend this over any OEM Harley Sissy bar I came across for the new black and charcoal iron sportsters.
wow im amazed
The sissy bar came with all the hardware needed and its pretty solid buy, comes in a good box so it wont come damaged. it was easy to install in 15 min i was done dont have to move anything around to make this work.
Well worth the money but be aware for install
Great sissy bar for my Iron. Looks awesome, serves its purpose. Money well spent. BE AWARE: The HD side-arm bolts are T-40 star. The bolts that come with the Burly are HEX.
Looks great
I am glad I bought the taller bar. It is great for attaching bags to. Goes on easy. Very sturdy.
Could be better.
I wish it were tall enough to be useful and the welds on mine could be better. The leather isn't very good quality either and it looks bad against my seat.
Looks killer on 883
On the pictures here I thought they were kind of big, but once I installed them on my 883 they looks so nice, and work very nicely for my passenger.
First ever install on a motorcycle - Twas a Breeze!
This product is rock-solid and as others have stated, installs in minutes. The only size 40 torx-bit worked for my 2016 Sportster Superlow to remove the stock fender bolts. <br /><br />This is my second bike, ever, and I'd never added any customizations to a bike before. Product installation was simple and the videos that Revilla posts are super-helpful. <br /><br />Have tried this on my hour-long commute, strapping some luggage to it. Its worked fantastic!
She likes it.
I got this for my sporty because the lady wasn't comfortable not having some back support. I guess she was afraid of falling off. So I picked up this in black and love it. I use it to strap stuff on the pillion when I'm solo and I like the looks. The finish looks like day one a year later. Very easy install but I've done vehicle work regularly but not professionally for a while. I thought it was a little pricey but when your about the only game in town besides the dealer I guess you can charge whatever you want. Ultimately I'd spend the same amount to buy again. Extremely happy with this.
Looks awesome on my '11 XL1200C, installation was a breeze
Very nice
Very easy to install and does its job. You order it today you get it tomorrow lol jk but very fast shipping way to go.
This part is great, no blemishes, nice padding, not something the looks or feels like it came from a dollar store! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Looks great. Nice and sturdy. The hardest part of the install was getting off the foam wrap they packaged it in.
Great product
Back padding is perfect. Although the position seems high in the pictures, it actually will support your passenger lumbar.
Wife loves it she can relax and not worry about falling off. it took about 10 minutes to install makes the bike look complete
Great looking and easy to install. Hoping I can still fit some throw over bags with them. Awesome Sissybar
Carried all my stuff all weekend
I strapped a tent, a 30 can cooler, and the largest backpack that I own(72 hour pack or bigger can't recall.). I bungeed everything to the sissy bar and took off, no issues at all. Paint looks great and it never flexed at all. Plus it looks great on my sportie. NUFF SAID!
Awesome bar
Love this bar. Looks great and my wife no longer feels like she's going to fly off the back!
Love the look and low profile of this sissy bar, its also the perfect size not too short or tall. 4 stars because i swapped out the allen key bolts for stainless hex heads, i couldn't get good enough torque with those and knew id strip them if i wanted to take it off one day especially with blue loctite on there. Great fit and function though
Good Metal - Bad backrest pad
Now that i have my wife use the backrest its time to write the review after 6 months of the purchase.<br /><br />Why i got this: the cheapest available, good looking sissy bar out there. Fits perfect with my 2011 Sportster 883 low.<br /><br />Goods: Sturdy, Tall<br />Bad: The backrest pad is not good at all.<br /><br />Fit: Spent a good half hour to install it.<br />No issues at all. Sturdy enough. Went for the tall one so that for my long rides i can used any backpack and use it with the tall one.
Just what I was looking for. Great look, well built, great price. Highly recommended!!
