Frequently Asked Questions

Is this a front or rear tire?

Front. Dunlop AE2 rear tires use a dual-radius profile and come in different size designations.

Can I use this on a motorcycle that originally came with a tube-type tire?

This is tubeless (TL) design. Check your wheel — if it has a tube, you'll need a tube-type AE2 instead.

What's the difference between blackwall and whitewall?

Whitewall has a white sidewall stripe for classic styling. Both have identical tread and performance.

How many miles can I expect from these tires?

Dunlop rates the AE2 for extended mileage due to the directional tread pattern, but actual wear depends on riding style, inflation, and road conditions.

Do I need to balance these when installed?

Yes — balance all tires on a balancer after mounting to ensure smooth operation and even wear.

Dunlop AE 2 Performance in Rain

I finally got into some rain with the new AE2's on the trip to Sturgis. I have to say I am impressed with how well they handled the rain. I rode the Beartooth highway and Needles Highway on the trip in the rain and had no issues at all which was a great test for the tires. I highly recommend these if you were at American Elite fan.

Sticks like glue

I had these installed on my 05 Electra. Right out of the gate they handled excellent. I'm a motor officer and have spent YEARS on D402s and American Elites. The dealer tossed these on my personal bike last service. They stick like glue. I was dragging floorboards through the mountains the first weekend after install. Did some rodeo moves in the parking lot to scuff em up and have never had so much as a hiccup out of them. I was initially skeptical being that they are made out of country, but my worries are unfounded. Dry performance is excellent. They wiggle on hot mid-turn tar snakes just as much as any other tire, thats just coefficient of friction no tire can overcome, and the rain handling is excellent. The solid center actually felt better and more planted, surface tension science I guess. Dunlop engineers know all about it it seems. I'll keep buying these for all my "skinny" tire bikes. Well done Dunlop. Keep it coming.

AE2

Great tire. I'm running it on a 23 Ultra Limited. I have 22,000 miles on it so far and would guestimate another 3-4000 left. It's been in the desert heat to 11,000 ft. Colorado mountain passes in the rain and all over the twisty roads of the Appalachian mountains. So far, zero complaints. Expensive but worth it.

Dunlop American Elite 2 (AE2)

Tires are nice - felt different in turns from the two different compounds - harder in the center, softer on the sides, but I got used to it quickly. They feel really good. Let's see if they outlast the Michelins Commander III's now. I ride semi-aggressively and most of it is in the mountains. They are expensive, but you get what you pay for. Haven't experienced them in the rain yet.

Pretty sticky so far

Actually I have only riden on these for 1,200 miles but they feel good. I bought them less than a month ago because they claim to get a good amount of milage. Now your asking for a trend wear review. A bit early I'd say
