Frequently Asked Questions

Is this a rear tire or front?

Rear (RR). Michelin makes separate Commander III front tires — do not interchange.

Can I use this on a tube or tubeless wheel?

Yes — the TL/TT designation means it works on both tube-type (TT) and tubeless (TL) wheels. Confirm your rim compatibility before mounting.

How does wet braking compare to other cruiser tires?

Michelin claims the shortest wet stopping distances among leading competitors in cruiser tire class testing.

Will this fit my Harley or Indian touring bike?

If your bike is fitted with a 150/80B16 rear, yes. Check your owner's manual or tire placard for the correct size — some cruisers use different rears.

What's the load rating?

77H — suitable for single-rider and two-up cruiser duty on properly inflated wheels rated for that load index.

Great Rain Tire

These Commander IIIs are the business for cruisers! I was originally looking at Pirelli Night Dragons for max handling, but the Commander III had the standard sizes and belted bias that H-D called for on my 2012 Dyna. The first day I had them mounted, I did a 120 mile ride in pouring rain and 47 degree temps on my favorite back roads. I started out a little cautious, but by the end of the ride I was hammering my bike in the corners as hard as I dared. I ran out of guts way before the tires ran out of grip. We'll see how the long tread life claims hold up, but they definitely excel at their job under less-than-ideal conditions.

Very happy so far

First impressions are it's a great looking tire with some seriously deep tread. I installed it by hand on the rear of my Dyna, I have an inner tube so it was easy to seat the bead. I put 280 miles on it so far in a variety of riding conditions, and it feels and performs nicely. I will be putting one on the front soon.
The sipes in the tread barely reach the center of the tire, so I'm not sure how it will do in rain.

I have used some excellent tires from the OEM competing brand in the past, but I want longer tread life, so I'm hoping the CIII will deliver.

Excellent tires

I ride 8-10,000 miles a year and have gotten more that 10,000 miles on these tires.

Under no circumstances purchase these tires

Ive recently rounded off 8000 miles with a set of commander 3's on my 2014 street glide special, i can confidently say i have never been more disappointed in a set of tires. Over the years i believe ive tried every major brand on multiple bikes, through a mix of urban commuting and long distance touring. These had an odd vibration when they were new and i gave them the benefit of the doubt and believed they might just need time to wear in a little, after 8000 miles theyre going in the trash, they have been balanced multiple times, and currently have balance beads in them, still vibrate like theyre not round. i wouldnt recommend these tires to someone i didnt like. use your money buying something else and leave these alone. i will admit they have adequate grip in the rain, but aside from that i cannot think of one single redeeming quality in these tires, ill never buy another set of michelin motorcycle tires again.

Great Tire

This is my second set of Commander III Tires and I can honestly say these are way better than a set of Dunlops from the HD Factory.I have a 2017 HD Fatboy that I use for mostly touring/cruising riding. The factory Dunlops we're shot after 5k miles. I replaced them with my first set of Commander III's, I put over 15k miles on these and wore them down to the core on the rear tire, when these get to the TWI, there's no pushing it they are done! In rain, water channels off the tire well but creates a rooster tail of water off the front tire, but still maintains exceptional grip compared to factory Dunlops. The majority of the contact patch is smooth for upright riding and the rubber compound is fairly soft, I haven't noticed much in ride quality between the Michelins and the Dunlops but most of my riding occurs on Michigan roads. Alot of other reviews state that there's balancing issues and vibrations, I haven't had any issues in either of the two sets I've bought.
