About Michelin

Michelin has built tires since 1889 and supplies original equipment rubber for Harley-Davidson. The Commander series is developed specifically for heavyweight cruisers and baggers, where mileage and wet grip both have to hold up under load.

The Michelin Scorcher 31 front bias-ply tire, in 80/90-21 size, is a co-branded option for select Harley-Davidson Dyna, Sportster, and Touring models. It’s engineered with road-racing-derived rubber compounds for confident grip in both wet and dry conditions, combined with a supple casing for agile handling and extended tread life. This tire is built for riders who demand consistent performance across diverse riding conditions.

Why riders pick this

 • Secure wet and dry road grip
 • Nimble handling on winding roads
 • Extended durability and tread life
 • 80/90-21 bias-ply TL/TT construction

The advanced rubber compounds, enriched with carbon black, not only provide robust grip in wet and dry conditions but also contribute to the tire's overall durability, ensuring long-lasting performance for many miles.

Optimized for Your Front End

A 21-inch front wheel often defines the look of a custom or performance V-twin, and the Scorcher 31 is designed to complement that aesthetic with matching performance. Its specific profile and construction are optimized for steering response and stability, crucial for confident riding. While this tire fits a wide range of models, always verify the 80/90-21 sizing against your specific Harley-Davidson model's OEM requirements using our Shop by Bike tool to ensure perfect compatibility and maximize performance.

Good tire

Michelin version of the Harley-Davidson Dunlop. Cheaper and hopefully last longer. Better looking than the Dunlop. Happy so far.

Save money on a direct replacement to stock tire.

Save money by buying tire here, and if you can mount and balance the tire yourself that will save another $100. These Michelin's griped the road and lasted nearly 12,000 miles of hard riding. Road in all conditions, including Rocky Mountain storms and never felt nervous. Always held good around winding roads including the Black Hills.

Very Happy with the Scorcher 31

This will be the 3rd Scorcher 31 tire I've run on my 10 Street Bob. The factory 160, a 180, and now another 180. I got 11200 out of the 160 and 11600 out of the first 180. I feel the tire has good grip and has never given me any issues on wet pavement. Another reason I choose them at this point is I know what I'm getting. I just stay on top of the tire pressure and have had pretty good luck with the mileage.

My second set; why change greatness?

2004 Roadster (XL1200R); 80% commute, 20% weekend cruising

2nd set of Scorchers. First lasted 18,000 front and rear and still had life it them, but were getting scary in the rain and not as planted around turns. Both tires remained predicable up until the 13-15k mark, and then started downhill, which prompted me to purchase then swap them for new Scorchers. Good looking tire, branded HD. Great handling tire for regular commuting, and holds up well in the turns. I have upgraded suspension front and rear, fork brace, etc., so I do 'corner' on a Harley. Please understand that means edge to edge wear on the tire, but not at the lean angles of a sportbike. These tires held up for a long time, and the cost to age value was agreeable, so I bought another set. Talk to you all in about 18 months.

Nice tires but wore down fast

The good: excellent rain performance, excellent grip, nice looking tire that gave a smooth ride and performed well. No issues whatsoever.

The bad: at 8K miles they are down to the wear bars. I ride 60% highway, 40% country roads, and always have my tire inflation to spec. A modern multi-compound tire like this should last for 12-16K, which has been my experience with the other OEM brand used by Harley...which I will be going back to.

If you're a low mileage rider, you may enjoy the Scorchers. If your miles are high and you don't want to get new tires every year, there are better options.

Poor tread wear

Replacing a front tire with less than 5k on it. This was a factory set of tires on my FXDWG. Overall handling and traction is great. The rear tire will likely get me about 7k miles, which is acceptable. Will definitely not be going back with the Scorcher 31.
