Frequently Asked Questions

Can this tool rivet all types of master links?

It rivets hollow-nose master links. It will not rivet solid soft-nose pins.

What chain sizes does this work on?

Works on 520, 525, and 530 standard and O-ring chains — the most common V-twin sizes.

Is this tool compact enough to carry on a ride?

Yes. The removable handle makes it 6.69 inches long and 1.25 lbs — pocket-sized for a trail pack.

Will this completely remove my old chain?

Yes — the breaker pin breaks the chain so you can remove it. Then use the press and rivet functions to install a new or existing chain.

Do I need any other tools to use this?

This is a standalone tool. You'll need a vise or clamping surface to hold the tool steady while working.

Made riding smoother

Royal Enfield is known for its poor quality and appalling service. These guys just cannot solve the chain grinding noise problem. Talk to them about chain alignment and they'll look at you like "What the f**k are you talking about?"<br />There are other ways to align the chain - very easy ways, and accurate ways, but on those bikes where its easy to measure the distance from the swing arm to the rear axle with no mechanical parts to disturb the measurement. We are talking of World War 2 machines here - On a Royal Enfield, thats not possible. Motion Pro Chain alignment tool comes to the rescue. I aligned the chain myself and with so much ease. I showed Royal Enfield how its done using this simple tool. Everyone at the service center gathered around in amusement - WaDafaq is this thing? Its a chain alignment tool dear.<br />My rides are smoother. Chain life increased. Money saved. A peanut priced chain alignment tool did the job for me.<br />Yes, I recommend this product. Just a caution - store it well, its still a delicate rod that could, on its own weight, bend and deliver erroneous results. Store it such that the rod is vertical.<br />Ok, I love Royal Enfield. Its a classic. World war era machine. And no bike sounds quite like it.

Well made, but didn't properly fit NC700x stepped sprocket.

Quite simple design and well made however, it did not fit my sprocket very well, making it almost impossible to use for alignment. My NC700x rear sprocket is stepped down in thickness just below the toothed area for the chain. The design of the alignment tool's "mounting points" and the tension screw (on the opposite side) just barely contacts at the stepdown transition, making it almost impossible to get it properly positioned, in order to align the sprocket. A better design required to fit my sprocket (and maybe others that are stepped down in thickness just below the toothed area) would be for the tool's inner "throat" to be about an additional 1/8"- 3/16" deeper placing both sides of the alignment tool to tension against the sprocket below the stepdown point. After 8 or 10 attempts to mount it, I barely got it to hold to confirm alignment. Bottom line, I had previously aligned the sprocket using a metal straight edge, prior to using the "Motion Pro" unit. Due to the problems getting it properly positioned, I would not trust the Motion Pro unit with this style of "stepped down" sprocket

Motion Pro Chain Alignment tool

Used this to align my chain after removing the rear sprocket. Alignment tool is fairly accurate for the money. Easy to use. Only limitation is the rod length, and your eye sight. Otherwise, you can get it close to true. <br /><br />My only advice to the take multiple measurements when aligning. You will find your 1st reading may not agree with the others.

Useless for my application

This tool is no more useful than eyeballing chain alignment. If the alignment rod was a foot longer, it might be useful. Also the tool is not deep enough to clamp onto most OEM sprockets that have a lip below the teeth. The tool clamps onto that lip and doesn't sit flush on the sprocket.

Chain Alignment Tool by Motion Pro

GREAT tool, but its accuracy is TOTALLY dependant upon YOUR vision, and how much time you're willing to take to "get it right".<br /><br />PROS: Pretty Self-explanatory<br /><br />CONS: Vision, Accuracy Depends On Your<br /><br />

A must need

For what it does, you can't beat the price! If you change your own tires or maintain your own chain then you have to have this.
