Frequently Asked Questions
Can this tool rivet all types of master links?
It rivets hollow-nose master links. It will not rivet solid soft-nose pins.
What chain sizes does this work on?
Works on 520, 525, and 530 standard and O-ring chains — the most common V-twin sizes.
Is this tool compact enough to carry on a ride?
Yes. The removable handle makes it 6.69 inches long and 1.25 lbs — pocket-sized for a trail pack.
Will this completely remove my old chain?
Yes — the breaker pin breaks the chain so you can remove it. Then use the press and rivet functions to install a new or existing chain.
Do I need any other tools to use this?
This is a standalone tool. You'll need a vise or clamping surface to hold the tool steady while working.

Made riding smoother
Royal Enfield is known for its poor quality and appalling service. These guys just cannot solve the chain grinding noise problem. Talk to them about chain alignment and they'll look at you like "What the f**k are you talking about?"<br />There are other ways to align the chain - very easy ways, and accurate ways, but on those bikes where its easy to measure the distance from the swing arm to the rear axle with no mechanical parts to disturb the measurement. We are talking of World War 2 machines here - On a Royal Enfield, thats not possible. Motion Pro Chain alignment tool comes to the rescue. I aligned the chain myself and with so much ease. I showed Royal Enfield how its done using this simple tool. Everyone at the service center gathered around in amusement - WaDafaq is this thing? Its a chain alignment tool dear.<br />My rides are smoother. Chain life increased. Money saved. A peanut priced chain alignment tool did the job for me.<br />Yes, I recommend this product. Just a caution - store it well, its still a delicate rod that could, on its own weight, bend and deliver erroneous results. Store it such that the rod is vertical.<br />Ok, I love Royal Enfield. Its a classic. World war era machine. And no bike sounds quite like it.

Well made, but didn't properly fit NC700x stepped sprocket.
Quite simple design and well made however, it did not fit my sprocket very well, making it almost impossible to use for alignment. My NC700x rear sprocket is stepped down in thickness just below the toothed area for the chain. The design of the alignment tool's "mounting points" and the tension screw (on the opposite side) just barely contacts at the stepdown transition, making it almost impossible to get it properly positioned, in order to align the sprocket. A better design required to fit my sprocket (and maybe others that are stepped down in thickness just below the toothed area) would be for the tool's inner "throat" to be about an additional 1/8"- 3/16" deeper placing both sides of the alignment tool to tension against the sprocket below the stepdown point. After 8 or 10 attempts to mount it, I barely got it to hold to confirm alignment. Bottom line, I had previously aligned the sprocket using a metal straight edge, prior to using the "Motion Pro" unit. Due to the problems getting it properly positioned, I would not trust the Motion Pro unit with this style of "stepped down" sprocket

Motion Pro Chain Alignment tool
Used this to align my chain after removing the rear sprocket. Alignment tool is fairly accurate for the money. Easy to use. Only limitation is the rod length, and your eye sight. Otherwise, you can get it close to true. <br /><br />My only advice to the take multiple measurements when aligning. You will find your 1st reading may not agree with the others.

Useless for my application
This tool is no more useful than eyeballing chain alignment. If the alignment rod was a foot longer, it might be useful. Also the tool is not deep enough to clamp onto most OEM sprockets that have a lip below the teeth. The tool clamps onto that lip and doesn't sit flush on the sprocket.

Yes you do need this.
if you want to know for sure if you have aligned you chain properly by this too.. Also, the price is awsome in my opionion i paid about two and half times this much for one from the place i get my Smart Chain chain and Titanium II sprockets, Krause Racing. Check em out. LIfetime garuntee but pricey. Anyway if your chain isnt aligned properly you loose horsepower at the rear tire and fuel mileage, About 3-5%. That is a lot, how much have you spent to increase your power by just 5 %. Just get this and be done with it. Worth what i paid, a bargain at this price.

Hmmmm . . .
Well, I got the tool and went to work aligning my chain. I got it perfect! I felt superior, silly Kawasaki, the swing arm hash marks are off (I thought). Anyway, I spent the next couple hundred miles re-aligning, checking chain slack and worrying about knocks, clicks, hums and whirs. I couldn't figure it out. The chain was spot on. I began to think maybe something was wrong with my gear box. Finally, I threw the tool into my "box of tools that don't work" and re-aligned the chain according to the hash marks on the swing arm. Problem solved. I guess Kawasaki wasn't silly, maybe Dave was. Bottom line: the tool led me astray. Maybe it will work for you. I will stick with the hash marks on the swing arm.

I ordered this after adjusting the chain on my XSR900.<br />After second guessing myself and measuring and re-adjusting for over an hour I ordered this tool.<br />I checked my work and the tool showed that I had everything lined up okay.<br />It's worth the price just for peace of mind.

Doesn't work well.
This didn't work for me for a couple of reasons:<br /><br />1) I need to remove a chain guard to use it, but ironically I can only remove the guard with the rear wheel removed. This is not why I'm giving it a low rating because this is a bike-specific problem.<br /><br />2) Even with the aforementioned chain guard removed, the tool really isn't long enough to achieve a good alignment. And, if you think about it, the only thing this is aligning is the orientation of the front and rear sprockets. I would suggest that getting the rear wheel aligned with the swingarm pivot or the front wheel is actually more important, and it's easy to use a straight edge or tape measure. <br /><br />I bought this tool without really thinking about what it does, and I wish I had saved the ~$12 for a burrito with guacamole on it.

This alignment tool works well on my 520 chain and sprocket. It is far better than eyeballing. Makes reinstalling rear wheel after a tire change less of a hassle; no more using little, ineffective swingarm marks. I like this tool.

Great chain alignment aid.
I was happy to have purchased the Motion Pro Alignment tool. It helped me find the right alignment for the rear wheel after changing the chain. However you still have to make sure the tire/rim is correctly ligned up with the suspension arm as the cush-drive of the sprocket will always give a little. In other words having your chain perfectly aligned doesn't mean having a true wheel.<br /><br />PROS: Easy to use, cheap<br /><br />CONS: It's no laser sight<br /><br />

Poor build quality
I got this hoping to align my rear wheel without having to break out the straight edge and calipers. The tools build quality is poor, since I can easily influence how biased the alignment rod is from on side to the other. Tweak it one way vs the other and it reads like your out of alignment in opposite directions. In my opinion that makes it unusable for any bike you want to trust over 20mph

High quality brand name, low quality parts
It does what it's intended to do. The only aspects of the tool that were strange to me were the 2 plastic adjustment screws. The alignment rod and the sprocket bracket are high quality aluminum but the 2 plastic screws really bring the overall quality down.

Something I could go without.
Manufactured very nicely, very good quality. For my bike, I have to remove the chain guard to use it in a spot where I can judge the alignment. I can mount it further up by the drive sprocket, but can not get a good angle to see what is going on. Visual dots on swing arm will have to be good enough for me.

Doesn't work on every sprocket
Works well on my 03 CR250R with a supersprox stealth sprocket, but not on my 2015 CBR600RR with a superlite sprocket, because of how the sprocket is made. There's a tapered lip on the outer side of the sprocket and the alignment tool does not sit flush with the sprocket. If I flip the tool around it will work, but then the tightening knob is towards the hub and is a PITA to get on and off.
