Broke using it on a 520 chain
I recently purchased a chain tool, and while using it as per the manufacturer specifications, I had two parts break on it. I used a dremmel to grind down the rivets before using the tool, and only used what was provided, no wrenches or other tools. The smallest of the pin removers snapped while doing this. In addition, when depressing the rivet heads at the end of the installation, The anvil portion of the tool exploded.
Not worth the "trap of a return policy."
I purchased because I was tired of going to my old man for the tool. Don't bother, the drift pins aren't hardened steel and bend without effort. The fact that the heads aren't tapered to a point allows it to slip off the rivit easily no matter how tight you have the set screw, the set screw isn't properly machined parallel to the backing portion of the tool which causes slippage.

Grabbed my dads 30+ year old chain breaker "MADE IN USA" and had it out in seconds.

And before the moto world blabs user error, I read your special instructions on page four and diagrams on page seven I believe it was and your product is simply poor at best.

Being a journeyman millwright who works on precise machinery I doubt this was a case of user error or disgruntled purchaser.
Great
Did as recommended, ground heads of rivets off first. Did a great job on DID 525 swedge type master. Good value.
Pricey but worth every penny!
Motion Pro puts out a great chain breaker / riveter. I was never concerned that the tool would break on me it is made so well. It was a pleasure to work with this tool. It may be pricey but you do get what you pay for.

PROS: Very Robust, QUALITY PRODUCT, Ease of Use

CONS: Pricey

Not very strong
Constructed from cheep metal. The link press worked great but the rivet anvil cracked during first use.
Works Good
Only thing is when using the breaker, you have to make sure you have it adjusted just right to get the pin all the way though. It may take a couple try's.
excellent source of frustration
I have used this tool twice and twice it broke. the replacement brand i purchased came with a little stopper to prevent the piston from buckling, and all the bits fit neatly in the handle. if you must waste your money on motion pro's, buy many replacement pistons.
Works as advertised
I used this to replace a 630 chain and had no major problems at all. I read reviews that said this did not come with instructions, but the one I got DID have instructions in them. If you READ the instructions first, and FOLLOW them, you should have no problem with any broken pins or riveters. The hardest part was lining up the holes on the side plate with the new master link that needs to be pushed in. If you don't have a caliper, I'd recommend it as it's what you need to ensure you have mushroomed the rivet the appropriate amount.
Works as it should,
This product works as it should, pro tip! Do your research before attempting to use this tool so you avoid breaking one of the attachments like I did
Watch videos
This product works very well. However if never used before it can be overwhelming. I opened the box and didnt even know what I was looking at. YouTube has some great videos on how to use, I recommend you watch them first. I found the riveting part to be the most challenging. Other than that its a must have tool if you want to do your bike maintenance at home.
Perfect tool for the job
I am not a professional by any stretch, but this tool was simple enough for even a novice like me. The instructions were clear, the tool held up perfectly and even held up to improper usage (explaination below).

I purchased this along with a DID chain. It broke the stock chain on my SV650s just fine and pressed the new chain with relative ease. HOWEVER, I was under the impression that all master links are made equal; such is not the case. I accidentally tried to rivet a clip style link, essentially compressing the pin which is not designed to compress. I broke the pin under all the pressure, but the rivet head fitting still maintained its roundness and integrity. Luckily I did happen to order the correct rivet style link, and proceeded to complete the job.

Bottom line: The tool will do its job and even the small components have proven to be pretty strong. It's got plenty of sizes for commonly used chains and a nice case. I cannot speak yet on longevity as I have only used it this once.

P.S. Get the correct master link for this job and an extra just in case.

I have use this tool several times and it works AWESOME !!

Make sure you put GREASE on the threads and it will be smooth and easy to push the pins out .

Dont try to go all at once go 1/2 turn then back off and go again .

The key to breaking large chains is to GRIND the heads off the master link before trying to push the pins out .....

When riveting measure the pin first then only go as large as the other pins on the chain are flared out .

TAKE your time just like when pushing the pins out and go only a 1/2 turn and then back off a bit ,

GREASE is your friend when doing chains , USE IT !!!
Good product
I've had this tool for a few years now, and we've installed new chains on my and several friends' bikes. I actually find it easier to grind the heads off the old master link, put a cold chisel between the plates, and tap. The plate will pop right off, and you can just tap the old link out with a punch. It's just more convenient if you're going to grind the heads off anyway.

Where this tool seriously shines in in riveting the new masterlink in place. If someone stole it, I'd buy another in a heartbeat.

I do recommend it to my friends, but they just keep borrowing mine ;)
Happy at first then dissapointed.
I ordered the chain breaker about 2 months ago and due to an injury I couldn't use it until now. I have a 530 chain and as recommended I grinded the rivets down flush with the link. To my dissapointment the rivet is half way out of the link and the biggest pin break off. Stopped my whole job now I cant' ride until I find a cutter. I am satifised with the product but dissapointed with the pin quality.

PROS: Sturdy, Strong

CONS: Brittle pins

Motion Pro Chain Riveting Tool
It worked like it was supposed to. Beats paying a dealership $90 bucks every time you need a new chain. The push pins break easily. The .38 broke after 2 uses which was disappointing. The only push pin to survive was the smallest! Overall, it's worth the money. I'd mush rather pay $10 to replace the push pins thatn $90 for a dealership to do it next time. Lining up the rivet heads with the holed push plate took some creative thinking and a little help from a friend. Could be made easier. Good buy.
There is no way you can use this on the open road. It's little, hard to handle and they don't tell you you have to put an extra screwdriver behind the top plate to keep it in place. I had to have a flashlight to see down in the little holes, hold the screwdriver behind the plate. Also you have to hold the unit itself while you're turning the wrench with a breaker bar for leverage. It really is a 2 person job. It's made good and sturdy, but the latch on plastic container is suuuper cheap.
More like BrokenPro
Broken pin driver AND pin presser after only 2 chain replacements. The twisting rod bent immediately as well. Absolutely abysmal durability for the price. Even if I somehow happened to use or store this tool wrong (I didn't) there's no reason it should snap like a Kit Kat from the slightest overtighten or stubborn pin, especially since it cost more than my DeWalt socket drive set
Get the PBR tool
Be careful what chain you use this for. It will break. The PBR tool is way better and stronger.

Saved me so much money!!!
This tool is an absolute lifesaver for DIY maintenance. The build quality is heavy-duty and precise, making it easy to break links and set a perfect rivet without feeling like you're going to snap the pin. It turned a potentially frustrating job into a quick, professional-feeling project-highly recommended for any rider who does their own work. Like I genuinely didn't even know I could do all these things with it. All types of chains. Even helped a few friends out save a few bucks from a motorcycle shop. Followed up with the slack setter and alignment tool from them. 10/10 Everytime.
save your money
broke after one use the pin just snapped in half almost with no effort
Nice kit
I haven't used it yet and will have an updated review. Packaging and quality of product seems worth the price. Instructions are clear and easy to follow. Seems like a very complete kit as well
Great product
Very good quality. Easy to use. Chain install was easy.
money saver
If it's your first time using one of these, buy a couple extra master links in case you overtighten it.
Maybe get a caliper and measure the other links so you know about how far to press them on too just to be safe. The cost of these tools will still be less than paying a shop to install a chain and sprocket.
Worked fine, push pin broke on first try
Broke my old #535 chain using 4 mm push bolt, which worked fine, but was broken when I dissasembled the chain breaker apparatus. Not a big deal, $10 for a new one next time.

Worked fine for attaching master link for a new chain.

4.5/5
Just as promised and worked without a problem.
Worked as it should. Got the job done.
Chain work made easy.
