About Progressive

Progressive Suspension has focused exclusively on American V-twin suspension since 1982, and its Monotube fork cartridges and 400/970/970G shock series are among the most common upgrades on baggers and Softails. For most riders the stock rear shock is the single worst part on the bike — this is the fix.

Uncork smoother rides and dialed-in control on your Harley-Davidson with Progressive 412 Series shocks. These units bring consistent damping performance and the adjustability you need for varied loads and riding styles. Built with a robust double-wall steel body, they're engineered for the long haul.

Why riders pick this

  • Nitrogen-charged for consistent, fade-free damping
  • Multi-stage velocity-sensitive valving for responsive control
  • Five-position cam-style preload adjuster
  • Durable double-wall steel body construction
  • Available in standard or heavy-duty spring rates

The Progressive 412 Series shocks are a go-to upgrade for Harley riders looking to improve their bike's handling without breaking the bank. Featuring nitrogen-charged, multi-stage velocity-sensitive valving, these shocks deliver a controlled and comfortable ride across various road conditions. Whether you're cruising solo or loaded down for a long haul, the 412 Series helps keep your rear wheel planted and your ride smooth.

Dial In Your Ride

  • Available in standard or heavy-duty progressive rate spring options

Performance You Can Feel

Installing a set of Progressive 412 Series shocks transforms your bike's rear suspension, providing a noticeable improvement over stock units. The five-position preload adjuster makes it easy to fine-tune your ride for passenger weight, luggage, or aggressive riding. Pair these with a quality front suspension upgrade for a balanced, high-performance V-twin setup that's ready for anything the road throws at it.

Common questions

Can I adjust the preload on these shocks myself?

Yes, the Progressive 412 Series shocks feature a 5-position cam-style preload adjuster that allows you to easily dial in the ride height and stiffness to match your weight and riding style, without the need for special tools.

Will these shocks improve my ride quality over stock suspension?

Absolutely. The nitrogen-charged, multi-stage velocity-sensitive valving in the 412 Series provides more consistent damping and better control than most factory Harley-Davidson shocks, leading to a smoother and more stable ride.

Do I need any special tools for installation?

Installation typically requires basic hand tools. However, we recommend consulting a service manual for your specific Harley-Davidson model to ensure proper torque specifications and safe installation procedures. Confirm fitment with our Shop by Bike tool before ordering.

Stiff

The shocks seem super nice, but they are incredibly stiff. Turns out they’re 130/200 top to bottom. Would be nice to have an option to choose your spring rate. Couldn’t find it in the description either. Have them installed on a 1998 sportster 1200 by the way. I’m about 180lbs and they don’t move at all, my friend who weighs about 260 also said they were way to firm. Hope this helps.
