Frequently Asked Questions

Can I adjust the ride feel after installation?

Yes — the 5-position cam preload adjuster lets you dial in stiffness to match your weight and preference without tools.

Are chrome covers available?

Optional show chrome covers are available on select applications. Check the product page for your specific model to confirm availability.

What's the difference between standard and heavy-duty springs?

Heavy-duty springs provide stiffer initial support for heavier riders. Standard springs suit lighter riders. Both use Progressive's velocity-sensitive damping technology.

How long do these shocks last?

Progressive's double-wall steel construction is built for longevity. Actual lifespan depends on riding style and road conditions, but the design is engineered for durability over the life of your ownership.

Do I need new shocks if my current ones are sagging?

Sagging shocks indicate worn damping or failed internal seals — new shocks will restore ride height, handling, and comfort. 412s are a solid upgrade from worn OEM or cheap alternatives.

Stiff

The shocks seem super nice, but they are incredibly stiff. Turns out they’re 130/200 top to bottom. Would be nice to have an option to choose your spring rate. Couldn’t find it in the description either. Have them installed on a 1998 sportster 1200 by the way. I’m about 180lbs and they don’t move at all, my friend who weighs about 260 also said they were way to firm. Hope this helps.
