About Progressive

Progressive Suspension has focused exclusively on American V-twin suspension since 1982, and its Monotube fork cartridges and 400/970/970G shock series are among the most common upgrades on baggers and Softails. For most riders the stock rear shock is the single worst part on the bike — this is the fix.

Progressive 412 Series shocks deliver smooth, consistent damping through a double-wall steel body and nitrogen-charged, multi-stage velocity-sensitive valving. The five-position cam-style preload adjuster lets you dial in your ride for light or heavy loads, making them a durable, adjustable upgrade for Harley-Davidson cruisers. Experience a noticeable improvement in ride quality.

Why riders pick this

  • Smooth, consistent damping for improved comfort
  • Robust double-wall steel body construction
  • Nitrogen-charged for consistent performance
  • Multi-stage velocity-sensitive valving
  • 5-position cam-style preload adjuster

Elevate your Harley-Davidson's ride with the Progressive 412 Series shocks, engineered for riders who demand better performance and comfort. These shocks provide superior control over bumps and road imperfections, contributing to a more stable and enjoyable journey. Their robust construction is built to endure the rigors of the road, ensuring long-lasting reliability and consistent damping.

Precision Tuned for Your V-Twin

  • Durable double-wall steel damper construction
  • Multi-stage velocity-sensitive damping for responsive control
  • High-pressure nitrogen charging for consistent, fade-free performance
  • 5-position cam-style preload adjuster for quick, tool-free setup
  • Available with progressive or heavy-duty spring rates

Optimizing Your Harley's Ride

The easily accessible 5-position preload adjuster means you can quickly adapt your Harley's suspension to suit varying loads, whether you're riding solo, with a passenger, or fully loaded for a long trip. This adjustability is crucial for maintaining proper handling and comfort, preventing bottoming out and ensuring a composed ride. These shocks are a foundational step towards a fully optimized V-twin suspension system.

Stiff

The shocks seem super nice, but they are incredibly stiff. Turns out they’re 130/200 top to bottom. Would be nice to have an option to choose your spring rate. Couldn’t find it in the description either. Have them installed on a 1998 sportster 1200 by the way. I’m about 180lbs and they don’t move at all, my friend who weighs about 260 also said they were way to firm. Hope this helps.
