About Progressive

Progressive Suspension has focused exclusively on American V-twin suspension since 1982, and its Monotube fork cartridges and 400/970/970G shock series are among the most common upgrades on baggers and Softails. For most riders the stock rear shock is the single worst part on the bike — this is the fix.

The Progressive 412 Series shocks are designed to deliver a significant upgrade in suspension performance for your Harley-Davidson. With durable construction and advanced damping, these shocks improve both comfort and control on every ride.

Why riders pick this

  • Improved suspension performance and comfort
  • Nitrogen-charged for consistent damping
  • Adjustable preload for different loads
  • Durable double-wall steel construction
  • Choice of standard or heavy-duty springs

These 412 Series shocks feature a robust double-wall steel damper body, ensuring long-lasting durability. The nitrogen-charged design, combined with multi-stage velocity-sensitive damping, provides consistent and responsive performance across various road conditions. This means less harshness over bumps and better stability through corners, allowing you to ride with more confidence and comfort.

Engineered for Performance

  • Durable double-wall steel damper construction
  • Nitrogen-charged for consistent damping
  • Multi-stage velocity-sensitive valving for improved control
  • 5-position cam-style preload adjuster for rider weight
  • Available with standard or heavy-duty spring rates

A Smooth Ride Awaits

With the Progressive 412 Series shocks, you gain the ability to fine-tune your suspension. The easily accessible 5-position cam-style preload adjuster lets you quickly adapt the shocks to your specific needs, whether you're riding solo, two-up, or carrying extra gear. This adjustability, combined with the choice of standard or heavy-duty springs, ensures you get the ride quality you demand from your Harley-Davidson.

Common questions

Can I adjust the ride height with these shocks?

Yes, the 5-position cam-style preload adjuster allows you to dial in preload based on your weight and riding style, which can affect static ride height and sag.

What's the difference between standard and heavy-duty springs?

Standard springs are suitable for average-weight riders and light loads, while heavy-duty springs are recommended for heavier riders, frequent two-up riding, or carrying substantial luggage.

Are these shocks a direct bolt-on replacement?

Progressive 412 Series shocks are designed as a direct replacement for many Harley-Davidson models. Always confirm fitment for your specific year and chassis before ordering to ensure compatibility.

Stiff

The shocks seem super nice, but they are incredibly stiff. Turns out they’re 130/200 top to bottom. Would be nice to have an option to choose your spring rate. Couldn’t find it in the description either. Have them installed on a 1998 sportster 1200 by the way. I’m about 180lbs and they don’t move at all, my friend who weighs about 260 also said they were way to firm. Hope this helps.
