About Progressive

Progressive Suspension has focused exclusively on American V-twin suspension since 1982, and its Monotube fork cartridges and 400/970/970G shock series are among the most common upgrades on baggers and Softails. For most riders the stock rear shock is the single worst part on the bike — this is the fix.

Progressive 412 Series shocks deliver a straightforward suspension upgrade with double-wall steel construction and nitrogen-charged damping tuned for consistent performance across light and heavy riders. Five-position preload adjustment lets you dial in comfort and handling without tools, while multiple spring rates and finish options fit most Harley cruisers.

Why riders pick this

  • Enhanced ride quality for Harley Touring, Softail, Dyna
  • Nitrogen-charged damping for consistent performance
  • Tool-free 5-position preload adjustment
  • Durable double-wall steel construction
  • Available in standard or heavy-duty spring rates

For Harley-Davidson riders seeking a dependable and adjustable suspension upgrade, the Progressive 412 Series shocks are an excellent choice. These shocks feature a robust double-wall steel damper body and are nitrogen-charged, ensuring consistent damping performance mile after mile. The multi-stage velocity-sensitive valving reacts to changing road conditions, providing a smoother, more controlled ride whether you're hitting the canyons or cruising cross-country.

Adjustable Performance for Any Ride

  • Double-wall steel damper body for exceptional durability
  • Nitrogen-charged, multi-stage velocity-sensitive valving for consistent performance
  • Five-position cam-style preload adjuster allows tool-free adjustments
  • Available with progressive-rate springs in standard or heavy-duty options
  • Choose from classic chrome or stealthy black finish options

Tailored for Your Harley

The 412 Series shocks are engineered to enhance the ride quality of a wide range of Harley-Davidson models, including Touring, Softail, and Dyna platforms. With easily adjustable preload, you can quickly adapt your suspension for solo rides, two-up cruising, or when carrying extra gear. This versatility, combined with the choice of spring rates and finishes, makes the 412 Series a popular option for riders looking to fine-tune their bike's stance and feel.

Common questions

Can I adjust preload without special tools?

Yes, the 5-position cam-style preload adjuster allows for quick, tool-free adjustments to fine-tune your ride for different loads or riding styles.

Will these shocks fit my specific Harley-Davidson model?

These shocks are designed for many Harley Touring, Softail, and Dyna models. We recommend using our Shop by Bike tool to confirm exact fitment for your specific year and model before ordering.

What's the difference between chrome and black finishes?

The difference is purely aesthetic. Both chrome and black finish options offer the same performance and durability, allowing you to match your shocks to your bike's style.

Stiff

The shocks seem super nice, but they are incredibly stiff. Turns out they’re 130/200 top to bottom. Would be nice to have an option to choose your spring rate. Couldn’t find it in the description either. Have them installed on a 1998 sportster 1200 by the way. I’m about 180lbs and they don’t move at all, my friend who weighs about 260 also said they were way to firm. Hope this helps.
