About Progressive

Progressive Suspension has focused exclusively on American V-twin suspension since 1982, and its Monotube fork cartridges and 400/970/970G shock series are among the most common upgrades on baggers and Softails. For most riders the stock rear shock is the single worst part on the bike — this is the fix.

Progressive 412 Series shocks deliver durable, adjustable suspension for Harley-Davidson with a proven design that improves ride quality across a wide range of rider weights. Double-wall steel bodies house nitrogen-charged, multi-stage velocity-sensitive damping that maintains consistent performance mile after mile.

Why riders pick this

  • Improved ride quality for Harley-Davidson
  • Nitrogen-charged for consistent damping performance
  • Easy 5-position cam-style preload adjustment
  • Robust double-wall steel damper body
  • Choose from standard or heavy-duty spring rates

The Progressive 412 Series shocks are engineered to provide a significant upgrade in ride quality and control for your Harley-Davidson. Featuring a robust double-wall steel damper body, these shocks are built for longevity and consistent performance. The high-pressure nitrogen charging and multi-stage velocity-sensitive damping work in harmony to deliver a smooth, predictable ride, absorbing bumps and maintaining traction whether you're solo or riding two-up.

Performance You Can Feel

  • High-pressure nitrogen charging for consistent damping

Ride Tuned for Your Style

With the Progressive 412 Series shocks, you gain the ability to easily fine-tune your suspension. The convenient 5-position cam-style preload adjuster allows you to quickly adjust the spring stiffness to match your weight, a passenger, or any cargo you're carrying, ensuring optimal comfort and handling for every ride. Available in chrome or black finishes, these shocks also let you maintain your bike's aesthetic while upgrading its performance.

Common questions

Can I adjust these shocks after installation?

Yes. The 5-position cam-style preload adjuster lets you dial in spring stiffness to suit your weight and riding style without needing to remove the shocks.

What is the benefit of nitrogen-charged damping?

Nitrogen charging helps prevent oil cavitation and foaming, ensuring more consistent damping performance, especially during extended rides or in varying temperatures.

How do I ensure these shocks fit my specific Harley?

Shock length and mounting style vary significantly by model and year. Please use our Shop by Bike tool to verify exact fitment for your Harley-Davidson before ordering.

Stiff

The shocks seem super nice, but they are incredibly stiff. Turns out they’re 130/200 top to bottom. Would be nice to have an option to choose your spring rate. Couldn’t find it in the description either. Have them installed on a 1998 sportster 1200 by the way. I’m about 180lbs and they don’t move at all, my friend who weighs about 260 also said they were way to firm. Hope this helps.
