About Progressive

Progressive Suspension has focused exclusively on American V-twin suspension since 1982, and its Monotube fork cartridges and 400/970/970G shock series are among the most common upgrades on baggers and Softails. For most riders the stock rear shock is the single worst part on the bike — this is the fix.

Progressive 412 Series shocks deliver smooth, consistent damping through a double-wall steel body and multi-stage velocity-sensitive valving. Backed by nitrogen gas charging, these shocks are built for long-term performance.

Why riders pick this

  • Consistent damping from nitrogen gas charge
  • Multi-stage valving for improved ride quality
  • Robust double-wall steel construction
  • Tool-free 5-position cam-style preload adjustment
  • Offered with standard or heavy-duty spring rates

The Progressive 412 Series shocks are a direct upgrade for riders looking to improve their Harley-Davidson's handling and ride comfort. Featuring a durable double-wall steel construction and high-pressure nitrogen gas charge, these shocks provide consistent damping without fade. The multi-stage velocity-sensitive valving reacts precisely to road conditions, giving you better control and a smoother ride.

Performance On Demand

  • Double-wall steel damper construction for durability
  • High-pressure nitrogen gas charged for consistent damping
  • Multi-stage velocity-sensitive valving for responsive control
  • Five-position cam-style preload adjuster for tool-free tuning
  • Available in standard or heavy-duty progressive springs

Tune for Your Ride

Designed for the performance-minded V-twin owner, the 412 Series shocks offer easy adjustability to match your riding style and load. The five-position cam preload adjuster allows you to quickly dial in your suspension for solo rides, two-up cruising, or loaded touring. Choose the black finish for a stealthy look that complements any custom build on your Harley-Davidson.

Stiff

The shocks seem super nice, but they are incredibly stiff. Turns out they’re 130/200 top to bottom. Would be nice to have an option to choose your spring rate. Couldn’t find it in the description either. Have them installed on a 1998 sportster 1200 by the way. I’m about 180lbs and they don’t move at all, my friend who weighs about 260 also said they were way to firm. Hope this helps.
