About Progressive

Progressive Suspension has focused exclusively on American V-twin suspension since 1982, and its Monotube fork cartridges and 400/970/970G shock series are among the most common upgrades on baggers and Softails. For most riders the stock rear shock is the single worst part on the bike — this is the fix.

Progressive 412 Series shocks deliver smooth, consistent suspension performance with a double-wall steel body and nitrogen-charged, multi-stage velocity-sensitive valving. They're a durable upgrade for Harley-Davidson models.

Why riders pick this

  • Smooth, consistent suspension performance
  • Nitrogen charged for enhanced durability
  • Multi-stage valving for superior handling
  • Tool-free 5-position cam-style preload adjustment
  • Options for standard or heavy-duty spring rates

Elevate your Harley-Davidson's ride with the proven performance of Progressive 412 Series shocks. These units are engineered with a high-pressure nitrogen gas charge and multi-stage velocity-sensitive damping to provide consistent, fade-free performance. The robust double-wall steel construction ensures these shocks can handle mile after mile, making them an excellent choice for any V-twin rider seeking improved handling and comfort.

Superior Ride Quality

  • Consistent damping from high-pressure nitrogen charge
  • Multi-stage velocity-sensitive valving for responsive control
  • Durable double-wall steel damper construction
  • Five-position cam-style preload adjuster for quick tuning
  • Available with standard or heavy-duty progressive springs

Customizable Comfort and Control

The 412 Series shocks make it easy to dial in your Harley-Davidson's suspension for any situation. With the convenient five-position cam preload adjustment, you can quickly set the stiffness to match your weight, riding style, or passenger load without needing special tools. These chrome shocks not only enhance performance but also add a classic, polished look to your V-twin, making them a popular choice for custom builds and touring bikes alike.

Common questions

Can I adjust the preload myself?

Yes, the 5-position cam-style preload adjuster lets you dial in stiffness for your weight and riding conditions without tools.

Are these shocks better than stock shocks?

The nitrogen-charged, multi-stage damping provides significantly improved control and comfort over most factory Harley-Davidson shocks, especially under varying loads and road conditions.

Will these shocks change the height of my motorcycle?

While the 5-position preload adjuster allows for minor ride height adjustments, the primary purpose is to tune stiffness. Be sure to select the correct shock length for your specific Harley-Davidson model to maintain desired ride height.

Stiff

The shocks seem super nice, but they are incredibly stiff. Turns out they’re 130/200 top to bottom. Would be nice to have an option to choose your spring rate. Couldn’t find it in the description either. Have them installed on a 1998 sportster 1200 by the way. I’m about 180lbs and they don’t move at all, my friend who weighs about 260 also said they were way to firm. Hope this helps.
