About Progressive

Progressive Suspension has focused exclusively on American V-twin suspension since 1982, and its Monotube fork cartridges and 400/970/970G shock series are among the most common upgrades on baggers and Softails. For most riders the stock rear shock is the single worst part on the bike — this is the fix.

Progressive 412 Series shocks offer tunable suspension performance for your Harley-Davidson, featuring a durable double-wall steel body and high-pressure nitrogen charge. Riders can fine-tune comfort and control across varying load conditions and riding styles. This series delivers a significant upgrade over stock suspension.

Why riders pick this

  • Durable double-wall steel body
  • Nitrogen charged for consistent damping
  • Multi-stage velocity-sensitive valving
  • 5-position preload for quick adjustment
  • Standard and heavy-duty spring options

Experience a new level of ride quality with the Progressive 412 Series shocks on your Harley-Davidson. These shocks are engineered with a robust double-wall steel damper body and utilize high-pressure nitrogen charging for consistent, fade-free performance. The multi-stage velocity-sensitive valving adapts to road conditions, providing a plush ride over small bumps and firm control during more aggressive maneuvers, ensuring both comfort and stability.

Precision Tuned for Your Ride

  • Double-wall steel damper body for exceptional durability
  • High-pressure nitrogen charged for consistent damping performance
  • Multi-stage velocity-sensitive valving for responsive control
  • 5-position cam-style preload adjuster for quick adjustments
  • Available in standard and heavy-duty progressive spring rates

Adaptable Performance

The Progressive 412 Series shocks are designed for riders who demand adaptable performance. The easily accessible 5-position cam-style preload adjuster allows you to quickly adjust your suspension to account for a passenger, luggage, or a change in riding style. Whether you prefer a softer cruise or a firmer, more planted feel, these shocks provide the versatility to optimize your Harley-Davidson's ride.

Common questions

Can I adjust these shocks for different riders or loads?

Yes, the 5-position cam-style preload adjuster makes it simple to dial in the right ride height and spring rate to accommodate varying rider weights and luggage loads.

What is the benefit of multi-stage velocity-sensitive valving?

This valving system allows the shock to react differently to various impacts. It provides a softer response to small bumps for comfort and a firmer response to larger impacts for better control, adapting to the road as you ride.

Do I need any special tools to adjust the preload?

No, the cam-style preload adjuster is designed for easy, tool-free adjustments, allowing you to quickly change settings on the go.

Stiff

The shocks seem super nice, but they are incredibly stiff. Turns out they’re 130/200 top to bottom. Would be nice to have an option to choose your spring rate. Couldn’t find it in the description either. Have them installed on a 1998 sportster 1200 by the way. I’m about 180lbs and they don’t move at all, my friend who weighs about 260 also said they were way to firm. Hope this helps.
