About Progressive

Progressive Suspension has focused exclusively on American V-twin suspension since 1982, and its Monotube fork cartridges and 400/970/970G shock series are among the most common upgrades on baggers and Softails. For most riders the stock rear shock is the single worst part on the bike — this is the fix.

Progressive 412 Series shocks deliver smooth, consistent suspension performance for your Harley-Davidson, featuring a simple, durable design suitable for any rider. With double-wall steel construction, nitrogen-charged valving, and a five-position preload adjuster, you can tune your ride from light cruising to aggressive sport riding without compromise.

Why riders pick this

  • Durable double-wall steel body
  • Multi-stage velocity-sensitive damping
  • High-pressure gas charged for consistency
  • 5-position cam-style preload adjuster
  • Standard and heavy-duty spring options

Upgrade your Harley-Davidson's ride with the dependable performance of Progressive 412 Series shocks. These units are built with a sturdy double-wall steel damper body and are nitrogen-charged for consistent, fade-free damping across a wide range of temperatures and riding conditions. The multi-stage velocity-sensitive valving ensures that your suspension responds effectively to both minor road imperfections and significant impacts, providing a controlled and comfortable ride every time.

Responsive Performance for Every Ride

  • Durable double-wall steel damper body
  • Multi-stage velocity-sensitive damping for adaptive control
  • High-pressure gas charging for consistent performance
  • 5-position cam-style preload adjuster for easy tuning
  • Available with standard or heavy-duty progressive-rate spring options

Effortless Adjustability

The Progressive 412 Series shocks put control in your hands with their easy-to-use 5-position cam-style preload adjuster. This feature allows you to quickly and effectively set your desired sag to match your personal weight, a passenger, or any cargo you might be carrying. This versatility makes them an excellent choice for Harley-Davidson riders who demand a customizable and reliable suspension solution for diverse riding scenarios.

Common questions

Can I adjust the preload myself?

Yes, the 5-position cam-style adjuster is designed for easy, tool-free preload adjustments, allowing you to quickly fine-tune your suspension.

What is the benefit of nitrogen-charged shocks?

Nitrogen gas charging helps prevent oil cavitation and foaming within the shock, which ensures consistent damping performance and prevents 'fade' even during prolonged or aggressive riding.

Will these shocks improve my bike's cornering ability?

Improved damping and proper preload adjustment from these shocks can significantly enhance your bike's stability and control, contributing to better confidence and performance in corners compared to worn-out or inadequate stock units.

Stiff

The shocks seem super nice, but they are incredibly stiff. Turns out they’re 130/200 top to bottom. Would be nice to have an option to choose your spring rate. Couldn’t find it in the description either. Have them installed on a 1998 sportster 1200 by the way. I’m about 180lbs and they don’t move at all, my friend who weighs about 260 also said they were way to firm. Hope this helps.
