About Progressive

Progressive Suspension has focused exclusively on American V-twin suspension since 1982, and its Monotube fork cartridges and 400/970/970G shock series are among the most common upgrades on baggers and Softails. For most riders the stock rear shock is the single worst part on the bike — this is the fix.

Progressive 412 Series shocks deliver durable suspension performance for your Harley-Davidson, featuring a robust doublewall steel body, nitrogen-charged valving, and adjustable preload to suit any rider weight. The simple, proven design provides smooth damping for the long haul without breaking the bank. These shocks in chrome add a classic, custom aesthetic to your V-twin.

Why riders pick this

 • Durable doublewall steel body for longevity
 • Multistage velocity-sensitive valving
 • Nitrogen-charged for consistent damping
 • Five-position cam-style preload adjustment

These Progressive 412 Series shocks are engineered to upgrade your Harley-Davidson's suspension with a focus on durability and rider-tunable performance. Moving beyond basic factory suspension, the 412 Series offers a more controlled and comfortable experience, absorbing road imperfections with greater efficiency and helping your V-twin maintain better traction. The brilliant chrome finish provides a timeless custom look.

Reliable Damping and Adjustability

 • Durable doublewall steel damper body construction
 • Multistage velocity-sensitive valving adapts to changing road conditions
 • High-pressure nitrogen gas charged for consistent damping
 • Five-position cam-style preload adjuster for rider-specific tuning

Dialing In Your Harley's Ride

The ability to quickly adjust preload means you can easily adapt your Harley-Davidson for solo cruising, two-up touring, or hauling gear. This user-friendly feature ensures that your V-twin performs optimally under various loads and riding scenarios, providing a more personalized and enjoyable experience every time you twist the throttle. The chrome finish ensures your bike stands out with classic style.

Common questions

Can I adjust the ride height or preload?

Yes, the 5-position cam-style preload adjuster lets you dial in the ride for your weight and riding style without tools. This primarily affects sag and feel, not overall ride height.

What's the difference between standard and heavy-duty springs?

Standard springs are suitable for most solo riders. Heavy-duty springs are recommended for heavier riders, frequent two-up riding, or when carrying significant luggage. Confirm fitment with Shop by Bike before ordering.

Will these shocks require a special mounting kit?

Progressive 412 Series shocks are designed as a direct replacement for most Harley-Davidson models and typically use existing mounting hardware. However, always verify fitment for your specific model year.

IF Big...Go Big (Heavy Duty)

There are multiple reviews and recommendations for Standard or heavy Duty 11inch shocks out there. I have these on a 2015 HD Street Bob. Unfortunately the review I read recommended standard for someone 275lb and under. I'm 250lbs and bottom out/drag pipes in the faster turns with the standards on the 5 setting. These shocks look and ride great. I don't regret the purchase, regardless.

Even better than I had expected!

These shocks look and feel amazing! I weigh 190 and only ride 2-up occasionally but decided to go with the 12.5" Heavy Duty shocks anyway. This proved to be a great decision as they are nice and stiff for aggressive riding but handle the road with ease.

Side Note: To spite the photographs, the black shocks do come with the skirts on the bottom like the chrome shocks that are pictured. If you do not want the skirts on then you will need a spring compressor from Progressive to remove them. It is a very easy job with the correct tool.

Nice easy mod

These shocks are the best entry level customs you can buy! Super easy install. Night and day difference in ride and handling from stock. This is also a great way to raise or lower your ride in the 2-3 inch range. If you plan on riding 2 up or weigh over 250, you should consider the Heavy Duty. Peace

Better cornering

I bought these for my 13 streetbob to raise the bike. I purchased 13.5 inch springs and the handling increased dramatically. At slow speeds the bike does like to tip more but this helps in the corners. Bike hugs much better and makes it so I only scrape the controls and not my Vance and Hines ProPipe.

Dropped my bike perfect so I could flat foot

Look amazing on my bike but def stiff for me. Kinda wish I got the standard and not heavy duty. I’m 180lb on a 06 Dyna wide glide.

Good fit

Easy install and looks good on my bike. I can tell the ride is better. Still early for a full review. Good bang for your buck.
