About Progressive

Progressive Suspension has focused exclusively on American V-twin suspension since 1982, and its Monotube fork cartridges and 400/970/970G shock series are among the most common upgrades on baggers and Softails. For most riders the stock rear shock is the single worst part on the bike — this is the fix.

Progressive 412 Series shocks deliver tuned suspension performance for your Harley-Davidson with robust double-wall steel construction and nitrogen-charged, multi-stage velocity-sensitive damping. The five-position cam preload adjuster allows you to dial in comfort and handling for your weight and riding style. These shocks are a direct upgrade for improved ride quality.

Why riders pick this

  • Durable double-wall steel damper body
  • Nitrogen-charged multi-stage valving
  • 5-position cam-style preload adjuster
  • Standard or heavy-duty spring options

Elevate your Harley-Davidson's ride with the Progressive 412 Series shocks, engineered for superior performance and durability. Their double-wall steel damper body ensures long-lasting reliability, while the nitrogen-charged, multi-stage velocity-sensitive valving provides consistent and controlled damping. Common questions

Can I adjust the preload on these shocks?

Yes, the 5-position cam-style preload adjuster lets you dial in the ride for light to heavy riders without needing additional tools, making adjustments quick and easy.

What is the advantage of progressive rate springs?

Progressive rate springs provide a softer initial feel for improved comfort over small bumps, then stiffen up as they compress further to prevent bottoming out under heavier loads or aggressive riding.

Will these shocks improve my Harley-Davidson's stability?

Absolutely. The consistent damping and tunable preload of the 412 Series shocks significantly improve your bike's stability, especially when encountering bumps or riding with a passenger, leading to a more planted feel.

Stiff

The shocks seem super nice, but they are incredibly stiff. Turns out they’re 130/200 top to bottom. Would be nice to have an option to choose your spring rate. Couldn’t find it in the description either. Have them installed on a 1998 sportster 1200 by the way. I’m about 180lbs and they don’t move at all, my friend who weighs about 260 also said they were way to firm. Hope this helps.
