Progressive Suspension has focused exclusively on American V-twin suspension since 1982, and its Monotube fork cartridges and 400/970/970G shock series are among the most common upgrades on baggers and Softails. For most riders the stock rear shock is the single worst part on the bike — this is the fix.
Get tuned suspension performance for your Harley-Davidson with Progressive 413 Series shocks. These units feature a five-position preload adjuster, allowing you to fine-tune the ride to match light or heavy riders. Finished in black, they are engineered for durability and consistent handling over the life of your bike.

Common questions
What do the five preload positions do?
The cam-style adjuster lets you dial in spring preload to match your weight and riding style. Lighter riders typically use lower settings for a softer ride, while heavier riders or those carrying passengers dial it up for proper ride height and increased stiffness.
What's the difference between standard and heavy-duty valving?
Standard valving is typically suited for average rider weights and general riding conditions, while heavy-duty valving is designed for heavier riders, frequent two-up riding, or carrying substantial luggage, providing firmer damping and better control under increased loads.
Will these shocks change the stance or ride height of my Harley-Davidson?
By adjusting the five-position preload, you can influence the ride height and sag of your motorcycle. Properly setting the preload is crucial for achieving optimal handling and ensuring the correct stance for your specific Harley-Davidson model. Stiff
The shocks seem super nice, but they are incredibly stiff. Turns out they’re 130/200 top to bottom. Would be nice to have an option to choose your spring rate. Couldn’t find it in the description either. Have them installed on a 1998 sportster 1200 by the way. I’m about 180lbs and they don’t move at all, my friend who weighs about 260 also said they were way to firm. Hope this helps.
