About Progressive

Progressive Suspension has focused exclusively on American V-twin suspension since 1982, and its Monotube fork cartridges and 400/970/970G shock series are among the most common upgrades on baggers and Softails. For most riders the stock rear shock is the single worst part on the bike — this is the fix.

Transform your 1989-1999 Harley-Davidson Softail's ride with Progressive 422 Series shocks. These high-pressure monotube shocks offer responsive damping and a customizable experience. Adjust your ride height and spring preload to perfectly match your preferences and riding conditions.

Why riders pick this

  • High-pressure gas-charged monotube design
  • Adjustable ride height from stock to 2 inches lower
  • Preload adjustable for varying loads and weights
  • Available in Standard and Heavy Duty options
  • Chrome shroud finish

The Progressive 422 Series shocks are engineered to provide a significant upgrade to your Softail's suspension. Built on a high-pressure gas-charged monotube design, they deliver consistent and reliable damping performance across various road surfaces. The ability to fine-tune both ride height and spring preload means you can achieve your desired stance and ensure optimal comfort and control, whether you're riding solo or with a passenger.

Customized Comfort and Control

  • High-pressure gas-charged monotube for consistent damping performance
  • Adjustable ride height from stock down to 2 inches lower
  • Preload easily tuned to accommodate different rider weights and loads
  • Available in both Standard and Heavy Duty versions
  • Finished in brilliant chrome for a classic, custom look

Dial In Your Softail's Stance

The Progressive 422 Series shocks offer the flexibility to personalize your Softail's ride. The adjustable ride height feature allows you to lower your bike for a more aggressive look or maintain a comfortable stock height. Coupled with adjustable preload, these shocks ensure your bike is always performing at its best, providing a stable and comfortable foundation for every journey. This upgrade is ideal for riders looking to enhance both the aesthetics and the dynamic performance of their Softail.

Fantastic!

I was un sure about the Heavy duty or the standard. I am about 230 with gear an wife is 220. I open for the standard duty. I put 70 miles on it with the setting at about 1/3, ha dealing was day an night difference! Came home and did another 50 miles with the wife, had setting at 2/3rds on the RAP everything was fantastic! No bottoming out on rough roads! Didn't even have to adjust the mirrors for the added weight in the back!
