About Progressive

Progressive Suspension has focused exclusively on American V-twin suspension since 1982, and its Monotube fork cartridges and 400/970/970G shock series are among the most common upgrades on baggers and Softails. For most riders the stock rear shock is the single worst part on the bike — this is the fix.

Elevate your riding experience on your 2000-2017 Harley Softail with Progressive 422 shocks. Featuring a remote adjustable preload (RAP) system, these shocks let you fine-tune your suspension with one hand, even while seated, for optimal comfort and control.

Why riders pick this

  • Remote Adjustable Preload (RAP) for quick tuning
  • Gas-charged monotube for consistent, fade-free damping
  • Ride height adjustable from stock to 2 inches lower
  • Tailored for 2000-2017 Harley Softail models
  • Available in Standard or Heavy Duty spring rates

The Progressive 422 shocks utilize a high-pressure gas-charged monotube design to deliver consistent damping, preventing fade and ensuring a stable ride. The innovative RAP system is cleverly positioned behind the left passenger peg, allowing for quick, tool-free preload adjustments to accommodate passengers or heavy loads without the hassle of dropping the frame.

Effortless On-the-Fly Adjustments

  • Remote Adjustable Preload (RAP) system for convenient, one-hand tuning
  • High-pressure gas-charged monotube construction for superior damping
  • Adjustable ride height from stock to 2 inches lower
  • Available in Standard and Heavy Duty versions to suit your needs

Optimized for Modern Softails

Stiff

The shocks seem super nice, but they are incredibly stiff. Turns out they’re 130/200 top to bottom. Would be nice to have an option to choose your spring rate. Couldn’t find it in the description either. Have them installed on a 1998 sportster 1200 by the way. I’m about 180lbs and they don’t move at all, my friend who weighs about 260 also said they were way to firm. Hope this helps.
