About Progressive

Progressive Suspension has focused exclusively on American V-twin suspension since 1982, and its Monotube fork cartridges and 400/970/970G shock series are among the most common upgrades on baggers and Softails. For most riders the stock rear shock is the single worst part on the bike — this is the fix.

Progressive 444 Series shocks are engineered for Harley-Davidson motorcycles, utilizing patented Frequency Sensing Technology (FST) to deliver a dynamically adjusted ride. This technology automatically optimizes damping in real time, responding to varying road conditions from minor bumps to significant impacts. The result is a balanced and comfortable ride, no matter the terrain.

Why riders pick this

  • Frequency Sensing Technology (FST) for dynamic damping
  • Deflective disc valving ensures progressive response
  • Hand-adjustable preload for easy tuning
  • Choice of standard or heavy-duty spring rates
  • Available in black or chrome finishes

Experience a new level of ride comfort and control on your Harley-Davidson with Progressive 444 Series shocks. These advanced shocks feature Frequency Sensing Technology (FST) that intelligently adapts damping on the fly, ensuring optimal oil distribution for a consistently smooth and controlled ride. Whether you're solo or two-up, the 444 Series is designed to enhance your V-twin's handling characteristics.

Responsive Damping for Every Ride

  • Frequency Sensing Technology (FST) automatically adjusts damping based on bump frequency
  • Deflective disc valving provides a progressive damping curve
  • Hand-adjustable spring preload allows for tool-free customization
  • Available in standard or heavy-duty spring rates to suit your load

Customizable Comfort and Performance

The Progressive 444 Series shocks offer more than just dynamic damping; they provide options to tailor your suspension to your exact needs. With hand-adjustable preload and a choice of standard or heavy-duty spring rates, you can dial in the perfect setup for your weight and riding style. These shocks are a solid upgrade for any Harley-Davidson rider looking to improve their bike's ride quality and performance.

Common questions

How does Frequency Sensing Technology (FST) improve the ride?

FST dynamically senses bump frequency and automatically adjusts damping, providing a smoother ride by optimizing oil flow for different road impacts.

Can I adjust the preload without special tools?

Yes, the preload on these shocks is hand-adjustable, making it easy to fine-tune your suspension for your specific weight and riding preferences.

Are these shocks suitable for riders with heavy loads or two-up riding?

The 444 Series shocks are available with heavy-duty spring rates, making them an excellent choice for riders who frequently carry heavy loads or ride two-up.

Stiff

The shocks seem super nice, but they are incredibly stiff. Turns out they’re 130/200 top to bottom. Would be nice to have an option to choose your spring rate. Couldn’t find it in the description either. Have them installed on a 1998 sportster 1200 by the way. I’m about 180lbs and they don’t move at all, my friend who weighs about 260 also said they were way to firm. Hope this helps.
