Frequently Asked Questions

What is Frequency Sensing Technology (FST)?

FST senses how fast bumps hit and adjusts shock damping automatically — small bumps get soft damping, big ones get firmer resistance for consistent comfort.

Do I need special tools to adjust preload?

No — the top-mount preload adjuster twists by hand. You can fine-tune spring tension without removing the shock or using tools.

What's the difference between standard and heavy-duty spring rates?

Standard rate suits most riders at typical weight. Heavy-duty rate is for heavier riders or those carrying cargo regularly.

Are these shocks made in the USA?

Yes, Progressive manufactures these shocks in the USA and backs them with a Limited Lifetime Warranty.

Do I need to bleed or service these shocks?

Progressive 444 shocks are sealed and self-adjusting — no manual bleeding or frequent service required during normal use.

Stiff

The shocks seem super nice, but they are incredibly stiff. Turns out they’re 130/200 top to bottom. Would be nice to have an option to choose your spring rate. Couldn’t find it in the description either. Have them installed on a 1998 sportster 1200 by the way. I’m about 180lbs and they don’t move at all, my friend who weighs about 260 also said they were way to firm. Hope this helps.
